Rodgers is the first player with an interception return for a touchdown, a fumble return for a touchdown, and two forced fumbles in one game. . .and he did it in one half.

Rodgers made more plays in one half than Gilmore and Griffen made all last season.

Thank you to the Vikings defense for getting me 41 fantasy football points (scoring is a little whacky, but defenses rarely get over 20 points), putting me in a good position to win this week.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/22/2025 8:32:54 AM)

Nice to see a game over at the half thanks mainly to Rodgers with a shout out to Reichard.

2-1 before the two week European vacation begins. Should be pretty healthy if Kelly returns, with Cashman and JJM still on IR. IDK the status of the RBs (Jones, Ham, Chandler) and don't really care since the unveiling of the law firm Mason, Scott, and Akers.

The backup center seemed to play well also. Both are better than the last....plus our rookie LG is playing very well. He had a nice combo block on Mason's 2nd TD.

Andrew Van Ginkel logging 2 sacks in just 8 defensive snaps yesterday is hilarious to me.

Vikings CB Isaiah Rodgers earned the highest overall PFF grade in NFL history today... a perfect 99.9

You'd think perfect would be 100, not 99.9.

Isaiah Rodgers Reminded Everyone That Speed Kills

Rodgers nearly hit 21 mph on his 87-yard pick-six. That alone is impressive, but his teammates claim he wasn’t running full speed.

“He was jogging,” said Metellus. “I was running for my life. He was literally staring at the offensive players.”

“Even he said he was kinda chilling,” Murphy confirmed. “He could probably go 22 mph if he wanted to. On that run, I tried to catch up. I was like, ‘I gotta slow down, because I’m gassed.’”

I have a theory that everyone can run the same maximum speed with practice. You just need to move your legs as fast as possible.

Kevin O’Connell said Donovan Jackson had surgery in Los Angeles this morning on a wrist injury he suffered against the Falcons. Doctors determined he could play against the Bengals before the surgery without additional harm; the surgery timeline was planned last week.

KOC hoping that Jackson can return after the bye. Won’t go on IR.

Will Ragatz

No one in the NFL has more sacks since 2023 than Trey Hendrickson, who came into Sunday's game leading the league in pressures.

Christian Darrisaw, in his first game back from injury, made Hendrickson a complete non-factor. 71 is so, so good.

If that's true, why not keep playing with the injury?

Rodgers ran a 4.28 at the combine - and he showed the skills in college. I guess he slipped to the 6th round because of his lack of ideal size (5'10, 170, slight build).

Overview
Slender, ballhawking cornerback who will need to prove he can make a move from outside into the slot at the next level. He has blazing closing speed on long throws with plus ball skills to play the football and constrict catch space. His twitch and instincts allow him to pounce on top of throws from off-man but his slight frame could be an issue when teams target him with bigger bodies in coverage. He's a plus return man, which adds to his value, but his success could rest upon how he handles a transition inside and whether his body can hold up in run support.

Strengths
Consistent ball production all four years. Finished with 11 career interceptions, including three returned for touchdowns. Plus long speed shows in recovery over the top. Very instinctive and football smart. Anticipates the route break and drives on top of it from off-man. Squeezes the route and the catch space. Finds the football with back to the ball. Has kick and punt return talent.

Weaknesses
Slightly built and doesn't have much room for additional mass. Will get big-bodied in space on occasion. Big targets can elevate and pick the football over the top of him. Gives away valuable early ground on his turn and run. Slow in coming to balance as an open-field tackler. Could have issues holding up in NFL run support.

Isaiah Rodgers officially earns PFF's first-ever perfect 99.9 grade

It made the rounds on social media as an "in-game grade," but it's now official upon final review: Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is the first player in the Pro Football Focus era (since 2006) to earn a perfect 99.9 grade in a game on at least 10 snaps from scrimmage.

Rodgers played 41 defensive snaps in the Vikings' blowout win over the Bengals on Sunday. He was fine as a run defender on 15 of those snaps. The other 26 saw him drop back in coverage, and that's where he did his damage in a historic individual performance. In the first half alone, Rodgers had an 87-yard pick-six, a pass breakup in the end zone, two forced fumbles, and a 66-yard fumble return touchdown. That's how you earn a 99.3 PFF coverage grade — the highest ever by 1.4 points.

With that one game alone, Rodgers is now the highest-graded cornerback in the league through three weeks. His 90.9 grade is first, by a lot, among 102 corners with at least 50 defensive snaps.

Rodgers put together almost a season's worth of highlights for a cornerback into one half. He became the first player in the history of the NFL with two defensive touchdowns and two forced fumbles in the same game. Twice, he went for the ball and jarred it loose. Twice, he showed off his 4.28 speed in racing to the opposite end zone.

But he was also sticky in coverage all game long against arguably the league's best wide receiver duo. Rodgers allowed one reception for two yards on three targets into his coverage, and he made another key play when he broke up a jump ball for Tee Higgins in the end zone.

Yes.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/23/2025 9:56:45 AM)

Trust me, I understand the nature of that post. That said, it will be interesting how KOC plays it if Wentz is at least 'as good or better' than he was against Cincy over the next 2 weeks. If we are 4-1 coming off the bye do you put JJM back in there or ride with the "hot" hand? It's an easy call if Wentz is not doing well and we are losing. If not [:-]

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/23/2025 10:10:07 AM)

While KOC is all over the map, it doesn't sound like he is fast-tracking JJM's return:

To me, at this point in a very young career, his mobility is one of his weapons that has clearly already shown to be something that's a positive for him, so we want to make sure he's healthy and allow this to be something that we can put in the rearview mirror and continue on with where he's at," he expressed.

"He responded well to treatment early on," O'Connell continued, adding that McCarthy is out of the boot he wore last week to provide stability and limit mobility. "Now it just becomes the phase of high-ankle kind of rehab that we're gonna hopefully be able to get him back up to speed pretty quickly."

After the health hurdle is cleared, O'Connell said the Vikings would not "just throw him out there and say, 'Hey, go figure it out.' "

"I think we saw, as phenomenal as he was getting prepared for the Atlanta game,
he did miss practice that week (for the birth of his first child a few days after the win at Chicago), and when you're in the phasing of building up the 10,000 reps and 10,000 hours of what it takes to play the position at a very high level, which we know J.J. McCarthy is going to do, you can't cut corners on that," O'Connell said.

O'Connell tied the progression time to the bedrock of playing quarterback.

"It's what allows players to play with poise and conviction," O'Connell said of deciphering things a mile a minute. "And when you couple that with firm and repeatable fundamentals, normally within the lower half of the quarterback's mechanics, you tie those things together, and then you have a system. Then you have rhythm. Then you have the ability for – it's very difficult for a defense to take away all five eligible [receivers]."

The late-night texts between coach and quarterback are symbolic of McCarthy's fire to become the best version of himself. If Week 3 was any kind of sign, studying an accomplished veteran like Wentz may help McCarthy spin an injury situation into a silver lining – a chance to grow and advance his game.

Syncing up, from bottom to top, O'Connell implied, is essential to playing quarterback at a high level.

"Sometimes it's the reactionary ability to still consistently play with the rhythm and the poise and the decision-making, and all that becomes much easier when you're taking the right footwork and you're balanced throughout the drop and reading with your feet," he stated. "Whether they've played 20 years or they've played two games – that is an incredible weapon. And I think there's value in J.J. seeing that."

Ultimately KOC is employed to win football games. If we are 4-1 and Wentz is playing as good or better than he did vs Cincy, IMO he will not rock the boat.

Yep because jury is out if Wentz can win the big one....same as Darnold. He is 22. Also Darrisaw, Smith, Van Ginkel returned. More pieces coming back in a week or two.
