No matter what 6 million a year is cheap for a backup.....

Who cares how cheap a backup QB is if he doesn't even know how to set his feet when passing. You get what you pay for.

You you are all over the place....so you now would rather have Kirk?

What is You you?

So directly responding to one of your remarks is "all over the place"? Actually, you introducing Kirk is "all over the place".

And why do you always try to assign your thoughts to me when you don't have anything of substance?

Kyler wows with the deep ball

Just to keep this real

- Bomb to Felton (broken coverage vs backups, nobody nearby)
- Bomb to 18 (underthrown badly; WR came to complete stop)
- Bomb to Jennings (no pass rush 7v7)

Bomb to Felton was over Metellus(44) and Rodgers(2) (at least the latest one).
Hopefully that says more about Felton than anything.
But doesn't really necessarily mean anything.

I think fans look at the qb race all wrong.
We focus on the big plays...
But the important thing is really eliminating the neg plays.
Pretty confident from the snippets leaked that Murray is going to win that.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/7/2026 3:06:05 PM)

I've heard several reports that say Felton looks like the real deal so far.

Very much so!

And small things. It's early but on one video during a pass play the sideline ref basically just waved a flag, which looked like delay of game.

McCarthy’s day

McCarthy set the tone early on for what was maybe his best practice of camp so far. In a half-field drill with 2 receivers and 2 defensive backs (and then 3 vs. 3), he threw a good intermediate ball that hit Myles Price in stride. McCarthy ripped one to Jeshaun Jones, then connected with Justin Jefferson on a semi-deep ball that featured a nice adjustment from Jefferson against Zemaiah Vaughn.

In the next period, the Vikings worked on transitioning from offense into punts or field goals. McCarthy threw a dart to Price on the right sideline to set up a long Will Reichard field goal. Later, after a couple less-clean reps, McCarthy hit Bryson Nesbit on a seam ball before another Reichard make.

In a more standard 11-on-11 period, McCarthy’s first throw was an accurate ball over the middle that was dropped by Tai Felton, who has had a good camp outside of a few drops. He added a few other short completions. In a low red zone period, McCarthy found Jordan Mason open underneath for a touchdown. In 7-on-7, McCarthy went four for four with a couple short throws and then two darts to Jefferson (at the left sideline) and Ben Yurosek (over the middle of the field).

Back in 11-on-11, McCarthy threw a good ball to Dontae Fleming, who went up and high-pointed it on an out-breaking route to the left. He hit Jones on another out route to the same side. Lastly, he couldn’t quite connect with Gavin Bartholomew on a fairly deep ball down the right side. The throw may have been a touch long, but it seemed catchable.

Overall, McCarthy looked more decisive and comfortable than he has on other days, which is encouraging. Even if he doesn’t win the starting job, he could easily be needed over the course of a 17-game season.

Murray’s day

Murray has had some very good days in camp and some shakier ones. Friday’s practice, which came on his 29th birthday, falls into the latter bucket.

It started well enough with some good throws in the 3-on-3 portion, including a pass to Jefferson that was fit into a tight window with Byron Murphy Jr. in coverage. But Murray’s first rep in the special teams transition period saw him get “sacked” by Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, scramble out to his left, and get flagged for throwing the ball while beyond the line of scrimmage.

Another nice connection with Jefferson was followed by a ball that was too high for Jones and nearly picked off by rookie safety Jacob Thomas. Then Murray threw a ball too far in front of Jefferson. His next rep was a floated wheel route for Aaron Jones that resulted in defensive pass interference on Josh Metellus, whose early contact made it difficult to judge the pass’s accuracy.

In the next period, Murray was sacked by Dallas Turner, who has had a good camp. He connected on a deep ball to Felton, who was all alone due to a coverage bust. He then had a scramble go nowhere. There was a heavy focus on rushing plays throughout the day, which limited the reps for both quarterbacks even in a fairly long practice. In the red zone, a Blake Cashman blitz resulted in another would-be sack.

Murray’s 7-on-7 period was a mixed bag. He threw perhaps a tad high for Yurosek, who got his hands on it but couldn’t bring it down. He connected with Fleming against coverage from breakout rookie Charles Demmings. Murray then was easily picked by Murphy on a throw that seemed to be a result of a miscommunication between Kyler and Jefferson, who turned the opposite way of the ball at the top of his route. Murray closed out the period with completions to Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson.

Back in 11s, Murray threw a good deep ball to Jefferson, who couldn’t bring it in. A flag was thrown for pass interference on the play, but it was unclear if Jefferson or the defender committed the infraction. Murray wrapped up his day nicely in a second red zone period with a floated touchdown to Josh Oliver and then a completion to an open Felton in the back of the end zone.

Overall, it wasn’t a very good afternoon for Murray, who is still looking to stack great performances on top of each other. He’ll try to bounce back this weekend.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/7/2026 6:43:33 PM)

A Vikings player whose name keeps coming up: CB Charles Demmings.

Demmings had back-to-back practices with several PBUs against players like Justin Jefferson and Jauan Jennings.

Brian Flores: “He’s done a good job so far…”

Has a chance to earn the CB2 role as a rookie!

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/7/2026 6:45:45 PM)

The early star of Vikings camp? CB Charles Demmings

Demmings’ positive reception in Minnesota has coincided with strong play. Through seven training camp practices, few Vikings players have made more eye-popping plays. Last weekend, Demmings broke up a pass intended for superstar receiver Justin Jefferson, and he swatted away another directed at receiver Tai Felton on Wednesday.

His lateral quickness is perhaps his most impressive on-field feature. The 6-foot-1, 193-pounder starred in high school as a triple jumper. He clocked 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine despite soreness in his lower body.

Those athletic characteristics are only relevant if the player also possesses the functionality to use those springs for what his position requires. Demmings does.

“Chuck D is a very confident individual,” Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores said. “He’s high energy, (a) great teammate, hard worker. In drills, you see him working his footwork and hand placement, and he tries to apply those things in the group setting. He’s done a good job so far and (has) continued to improve.”

Trice, whose coaching path intersected with Demmings again at Stephen F. Austin, maintains there is still room for growth. Three years ago, for example, Demmings found success at the position based on pure athleticism and feel. Later in his college career, he poured time into receiver tendencies, sharpening his schematic understanding.

Based on how cornerbacks align, receivers release off the line of scrimmage with different techniques. Understanding the opposing receiver’s propensity to move a certain way allows the corner to stay a step ahead, almost like a Major League Baseball hitter projects pitches in particular counts.

Demmings put considerable time and effort into improving this aspect of his game. This intentionality intrigued the Vikings to the degree that they sent defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander to Nacogdoches, Texas, for Demmings’ pro day.

The Vikings validated their interest by drafting him in the fifth round.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/8/2026 10:08:53 AM)

He, Demmings, is the one that Skor North keeps praising when they are there to watch the practices. Early but he's the leading candidate for Mr Mankato, according to them. Good signs.

How great would it be to find a starter in rd 5?!

Could end up being a tremendous draft!

Possibly starters at all three levels of the D?

DL LB CB...maybe even S?

Was thinking the same thing about the CB spot. It's such a premium position. You either need to use a #10-15 overall pick for top-tier (projected) one, and even then it's still not a given the player will be good, or you have to fork over $100+ million in cap in the event a top vet even hits the market.

A star CB for just a 5th round pick on a rookie contract would be one of the best things to happen to the franchise in eons. One can only hope.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/8/2026 4:41:56 PM)

Heard the first knock on Felton. Apparently he's making a lot of really nice catches but also dropping way too many routine ones.

How big would it be if Demmings turns into a player?

I went back to the last year I thought the Vikes found a stud CB in the draft:

YEAR PLAYER ROUND-OVERALL PICK
2013 Xavier Rhodes 1-25
2014 Kendall James 6-182
2014 Jabari Price 7-225
2015 Trae Waynes 1-11
2016 Mackensie Alexander 2-54
2017 Jack Tocho 7-245
2018 Mike Hughes 1-30
2019 Kris Boyd 7-217
2020 Jeff Gladney 1-31
2020 Harrison Hand 5-169
2021 Camryn Bynum 4-125
2022 Andrew Booth 2-42
2022 Akayleb Evans 4-118
2023 Mekhi Blackmon 3-102
2024 Khyree Jackson 4-108
2026 Charles Demmings 5-163

For a team that manages to find some pretty amazing WR and EDGE/DE prospects all over the draft... it has ZERO luck in drafting CBs.

Crazy to think in the last 6 years 2 of the drafted CBs are deceased!

(I thought Harrison Hand was gonna be a player)

better than scoring on Diggs as a star 5th rd pick...CB is harder to find gold than WR I think

Nice list. Yeah Rhodes. And he strangely dropped. Waynes, who I figured was going to be good, at 1-11. Ouch.

So true about the luck. Like decades.

Agree on both. Re the bolded, and speaking for WRs/CBs lined up outside, it seems like WR attributes are all over the place. From Calvin Johnson to Tyreke Hill to JJ, etc. Meanwhile, you need CBs that can deal with all of those different types. Rare breed.

Would be incredibly funny if the best draft class for the vikings in six years came from the non-GM.

Pods are saying that Demmings made another couple plays that just dont really show up for a rookie, no matter the round, yesterday. These guys are there every day and have been for years and what I keep hearing is "I've never seen this".

Who really knows but it's cool to hear. The blah is that both Banks and Orange aren't really even getting first teams reps.

Strong nickname contender for Chuck:

Maybe because this draft was accidentally done right. The scouts collaborated with KOC and Flores to match talent with scheme fit. Bryz acted as a facilitator. Execute the picks and pick swaps.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/10/2026 12:28:53 AM)

I don’t know if this is a positive for JJ or a negative for Murray.

Seifert: Since posting this on Friday, Kyler Murray has had a couple of tough practices against the Brian Flores defense. I don’t know that J.J. McCarthy has done enough to overtake him. But we can’t say that Murray has just run away with it.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (8/10/2026 12:49:54 AM)

Judd: Let’s make one thing clear about the Vikings’ night practice: Kyler was bad — especially early — and McCarthy was good early. But McCarthy’s play slipped. Neither of these two have shown any consistency or lived up to what you want to see from an NFL quarterback.
