Only a fool trips on what is behind him.

Darnold is gone and so is Cousins. Both didn't do shit here but win some regular season games. Let's move on to the the present and future.

Exactly. They both have a peak of losing in the first round. I want more that. Maybe JJ can progress to that next level. If not, move on to the next guy.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/27/2025 10:19:46 PM)

Darnold had Addison for his poor playoff game

Darnold 0-1 in the playoffs.

JJ 0-0.

Not with this OLine. Until they get that right we aren't going anywhere. I was cursing KAM during the game. My thought process, at the time, was "WTF does he bring in a C with a concussion history ect". I've calmed down off that line of thought but have shifted to this.

HTF does our OLine coach have a job? We have thrown a ton of resources at the position. FA's, draft picks ect and they still suck. We sniped 2 off of Indy and they continue to be good. We let Ingram and Bradbury go and they seem to be doing well at their new digs. ITS US AT THIS POINT. NO OTHER WAY TO LOOK AT IT.

I've been saying that for years. They'll actually have to coach at some point. You can't rely on sniping from other rosters and hope you have no injuries. We look like clowns on both lines to be honest.

Re the bolded, you can't rely on sniping frequently injured players from other rosters and hope you have no injuries.

Arlowe84 -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2025 12:55:45 PM)

All teams take a step back with injuries, but feels this team is especially not made to handle injuries.

The the last few drafts have been pretty rough, and they just haven't added much depth.

Lordy, Juergens seems really bad, that C may be a real problem all year, Kelly may need to take some extended time off.

Already talk of trading for a C. I say no way. This team ain't competing with the elite. Take you medicine this year, and try to actually start adding some younger talent on this team.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2025 1:00:08 PM)

You're not wrong but I don't trust KAM one bit to pull that off.

Or KOC to actually develop anyone.

His awful drafting is certainly surfacing. Paying big money to old injured guys like Aaron Jones and Kelley isn't solving our problems neither short nor long term. A team needs to be built primariy through the draft and Kwesi getting a big fat F in this catgory.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2025 1:35:48 PM)

We looked old and on the sickly side. Every play is a chance for a new injury.

As far as our defense ... it (or at least Rogers) looked good against Browning but, it seems like if Flores doesn't guess right, we're sunk. Every play is a 50-50 sell-out, be disruptive or get pounded ... playing straight up solid defense between the all-out gambles is for other teams.

The gimmickyness is starting to wear on me.

I do have to give KOC some credit ... the Steelers looked better physically and better coached and we somehow made it a close game. He does have an in-game knack that I am unable to understand or articulate.

It really is a shame our OL is a shambles compared to our offseason strategy. You couldn't draw it up any better on paper.

I do think the Pittsburgh Philadelphia Baltimore Buffalo and now Detroit hard-nosed, football-tough, working town culture is a better baseline to build your team on than this regime's nice guy + good collaborator stuff.

At some point, building with injury discounted FAs, even good ones, and rewarding your good team character players with top 5 contracts at their position .... is going to strangle us sooner than later.

That and the draft or lack thereof ... ooof. We're like a country that's either top 5% rich or 95% poor ... no middle class productivity.

Hard hard loss but I think we have the players to eventually be solid ... maybe go on a healthy run, find some confidence, etc.

Right now ... after blowing out one team and barely losing to a good team ... we don't seem that good. At all.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2025 2:39:28 PM)

As far as roster construction, if one does simple root cause analysis by merely being a child and asking why, why, why, the lack of decent backups, dependence on free agency, etc. boil down down to poor drafts which the GM is responsible for. After that, there are branches like the scouts are bad, coaching issues, etc but all that points right back to the GM.

After Cleveland and the bye, we have the Eagles, Chargers, Lions, and Ravens. Wonder where the draft slot will be for the 7-10 teams.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2025 2:55:20 PM)

Ryan Kelly has had five documented concussions in his NFL career, with his latest one occurring in a Week 3 (4) game on September 28, 2025, bringing his career total to five. His documented concussions occurred in the 2017 season, two separate times in 2023, and two times during the 2025 season.

He's done. Competing needs in the draft (CB, S, LB, maybe DL). And as of today Kwesi has to shed 53+ million in cap. Bust out that void year magic.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2025 4:08:30 PM)

That not playing anybody in preseason really worked on stopping injuries. What a soft franchise.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/28/2025 4:13:10 PM)

If I went "on paper" I would have finally changed my ten year old tag line.

I think some heat needs to come down on oline coach Kuper.

-Other teams have oline injuries as well and don't look this bad.
-Former IOL players going to other teams and performing well.

Kwesi needs to be mentioned here as well. Bringing in FA Kelley with a decorated concussion history. Not sure he has finished a game he has played this season w/o suffering one.

There's the drafting and then there's the squandering of draft resources to move around, trade for lesser players, etc ... embarrassing.

As far as the schedule ahead ... I would be looking at the 2-10 draft slots.

"Oh, the humanity!"

TJH is another guy that is just stealing money at this point. 4th highest paid TE in the league [:o]

Yup, he came in going gang busters and looked good, but he hasn't been the same since his knee got blown up.

Outside of competing against the Bears, Browns, Giants, Cowboys ... we don't seem to measure up to the other teams on our schedule.

But that can change. Injuries happen to everybody not just us. KOC has beat my expectations 2 out of 3 years although the ends were very stinky.

We are playing below my expectations going into the season of a team with a supposed improved OL and DL, and hand-picked first yr starting qb from the qb whisperer..

I've lowered my expectations for now but not sure I'd call the team garbage.
