stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/19/2026 8:03:48 AM)

The Stars embarrassed themselves with yesterdays effort, so I'm expecting a major counterpunch Monday night. If we can withstand that and get another road win we just may be on to something, if we lose and come home even at a game each maybe not. We have been there many times only to lose out in 5 or 6 games. If we can get the same goaltending and all around effort from the entire lineup we are in for some fun hockey win or lose.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/19/2026 8:09:36 AM)

I have to reiterate stfrank's take on having a legitimate NHL 4th line. McCarron and the Folignos are a huge, strong grinding line that is just hard to play against. I swear sometimes the puck just gets sucked into their gravitational pull. Any line they play against exerts a lot of energy and ice time just trying to dislodge the puck. They throw the puck in deep and just pound, pound, pound. It really helps sustain the momentum created by the top lines.

The Wild have outplayed the Stars, the last two times in Dallas. Gustavsson did us in the time before. As long as Wallstedt stays sharp, we have a shot at taking another one.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/19/2026 8:35:28 AM)

Like I said, if we can get the same effort we have a real good chance of coming home up 2-0. I think Wally has taken over the net unless he falters and I think that is a good thing. They aren't saying what kind of illness Hughes had, but if it was something contagious I hope he stayed away long enough for it to not affect the rest of the team. It would really suck to have something like that blow up a really good chance at making a run....

I heard Hughes flew to Dallas on a separate plane.

Russo reported that also....they kept him away from the team until late Friday....he arrived in Dallas mid afternoon Friday.

Yeah, they showed him walking in with Billy. I suspect they were on Leipold's private jet.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/19/2026 10:13:10 AM)

Couple of things:

I lived there for 7 years and went to a lot of games. That crowd was typical "Dallas". They are going to win everything until they go in a hole. Then it's give up time. it was hilarious when they started pouring out at 4-1 down. With that much talent they were still in it until their fans said F-it. They gave up the 2nd half of the 3rd just like their fans.

Faber was incredible all night.

That was a lot of penalties for a playoff game. Not sure if it was just the crew or what. I don't expect that to continue.

Hynes was really good and I hope he learned a big lesson from last year.

We passed the puck so well and seemed so focused. It didn't seem real.

The game couldn't have gone any better. Wallstadt certainly earned that spot, and I like the discipline of our guys to NOT get into any melees. Good hits, took a couple of penalties, but made them take a couple too.

All in all - great game 1.

Now do that three more times. [:D]

Most excellent so much nicer winning game one instead of losing it like the Timberwolves.

Interesting. Protect the teammates, but put the public at risk.

1. He was over the illness and stayed an extra to rest before traveling.
2. He flew on a private jet.
3. You're a bonehead.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/19/2026 2:37:43 PM)

Additional thoughts after coming down from the emotional high.

1. I should have ack'd JEE. What a warrior. It was late in the game and Hynes needed a FO win and he just yelled out "Ekk". It wasn't emotional or reactionary. It was just 'right'. Dude (JEE) is just an incredible 2 way player.
2. Mea Culpa time on 2 guys:
A. Faber - I was like "WTH is with that trade" when it happened. I played since I was 4 and have watched hockey my whole life. Does it make me smarter than anyone? Nope. But I've seen a lot and I didn't realize how good Faber actually is/was at the time of the trade. BG did. I was wrong, great on him. That kid is awesome. Even as a Gopher fan, I misjudged. his talent. I remember you guys calling me out on that.

B. BG himself - Wow, he's built a really good team. We take for granted some of his moves but.......damn.....he's built a really solid team.

If our GT'ing stays strong, we can win it all. I've never felt this before. I've liked some of our teams but nothing like this team.

Have to agree about BG. The bottom six he has built seems like they are going to be huge difference makers in the playoffs. Fifty hits in game one is going to pay huge dividends by game 4 or 5, you can bet on it.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/19/2026 4:21:20 PM)

The part I loved yesterday was when one of the bigger Stars tried to bully Spurgeon in front of the Wall. In steps in one of the Foligno brothers and it stopped.

The Bluejackets had a game where they delivered 3 hits.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/21/2026 8:35:18 AM)

Coming home tied at 1-1 and in need of some discipline if we are going to go much further. We knew we would see their best last night and as far as hockey goes we did pretty good. The problem is we let them have all of their after play BS and didn't keep our cool. If we stick to hockey and stay away from all the after whistle BS we should be ok.....

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/21/2026 9:00:22 AM)

For sure way too many penalties. The refs aren't letting a lot go for a playoff series but at least they are being consistent against both teams.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/21/2026 9:06:56 AM)

I would say the refs are calling everything but cross checks to the back.....they are still fair game. And the occasional Benn slew foot has been getting a free pass as well.

They nailed Yurov on the weakest cross check i've seen in years in game 1 [&o]

There was a really late one I believe to Hartman that should have been called.....didn't look like he flopped but it is Hartman.

If the Foligno brothers didn't take those penalties and the Wall didn't try to play the puck off of the wall the result may have been better. I was impressed with how the Wild played except for the first 8 minutes of the third period.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/23/2026 8:28:17 AM)

Well, here we go again.....
Will this Wild team come back and make a series of it, or will they wilt like years past?
After 2 games Dallas made changes to their special teams play and Hynes has done nothing. Missing Zuc on the PP shouldn't mean we are done on the PP.
Jamie Benn is a hack and a dirty player and I wish he would just go away.....the NHL will better off without him.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/23/2026 9:23:32 AM)

f*ck

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/23/2026 9:24:55 AM)

A couple more times when a Dallas player should have been called for a penalty but wasn't. It always seems that way.

It looked like it was going to be a great comeback win when we were down 2-0 and then had three unanswered. That tying goal by Dallas was a killer. [X(]

I'm going to try to be optimistic here and believe that revenge will be sweet when we take the next three games, sending Dallas into the offseason.

{caveat: I'm a Minnesota sports fan and have no reason or history that merits being optimistic}

kevinemmer -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (4/23/2026 10:43:31 AM)

That was a rough one, we had no legs late in the game..Yurov...ouch man.
We have a few days rest now, hope it helps.
Glad Boldy came back because we are dead meat without him.
Kirrill has been impersonating a ghost with the exception of one snipe, a bad angle shot off the post last night that was so close, and last night's defensive effort on a potential breakaway....

Can we rally? Sure.
Will we?
