In a vacuum this isn't terrible but holy hell. A LOT depends on what's next. You just simply can't afford C position of:

Larkin (or pencil in your #1 of choice)
JEE
McCarron
Hartman

So, either BG is pretty confident he can deal either JEE, or RH, or we simply try to run it back. There just isn't enough cash to go around. Just an off the wall guess:

Hart
Wall
Stram
for Larkin

Hart or Brodin....Stramel or Yurov.

Seems that it means no Tarasenko or Zuccarello either?

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (6/9/2026 4:28:39 PM)

The consensus of the alleged insiders is that the Wild will have to give up either Yurov or Wallstedt as the top piece in a deal for Larkin. Stramel, Hartman and the Wild's 2027 first rounder also get mentioned a lot.

Russo seems pretty convinced Spurgeon and Brodin are staying......I think it is ground hogs day depending on them to stay healthy......JEE is getting to that place also.

Is there a way to turn Hartman, Spurgeon, Brodin, and JEE into Matthews and Larkin + (Even if it takes one or two of Stramel/Yurov/Wallstedt/Spacek)?

No

TBH, I give up Yurov in a heartbeat for Larkin if it means keeping Wally.

Yeah, I just don't see them giving up Wally in this deal. Yurov on the other hand has to be our top asset to dangle in any trade.

Agreed. Before the playoffs, Wally was available and even offered for Thomas. Wally clearly seized the top job in the playoffs, which likely changes his status. Now the question for our panel of experts....what if Detroit insists on Wally instead of Yurov?

I've heard/read theories on why Gus was so 'meh' down the stretch and most of it surrounds his hip injury. IF we have to give up Wally for Larkin, I would do it. Larkin is a true #1 C and was almost a point per guy his entire career, wins over 50% of his FO's and has great leadership traits. He's also still only 29 which kind of surprised me when I looked it up.

From what I understand Detroit has a couple of highly rated goalie prospects including one that was drafted ahead of Wally. If they insist on Wally, then they will need to throw one of their top goalie prospects into the deal.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (6/10/2026 11:10:27 AM)

Their top guy requested a trade from what I read which might indicate that he knows that Wally is being discussed (?).

I mentioned when the Gus extension was signed that I hated the timing of it. He has a NTC and now has a hip "issue" that required surgery. I really like Larkin but I would be be much more comfortable moving Gus and other assets.

For me, the only untouchables, that anyone would trade for, are:

KK
Boldy
Faber
Hughes (assuming you already know he'll resign)
JEE

The surprising thing for me is that we have seemingly no interest in keeping our backup goalie that performed good in the Olympics, Samuel Hlavaj especially after seeing that the same thing happened to the Wall the prior year in Iowa.
