According to Russo and Smith the Wild want to get Kaprizov out of the east west game that he plays with Zuccarello. They want him to mesh with other players and transition more to a go to the net style game.

On the Larkin front, Yzerman is apparently only interested in a deal with the Wild that includes Boldy. Hopefully Billy politely told him to go f**k himself. IMO, Yzerman is trying to force Larkin to expand his list of teams. He wants a bidding war.

I'll miss Zucs in a lot of ways, but he DID have a tendency to embarrass us with unnecessary rogue dirty hits. He doesn't do us a whole lot of good when he's serving suspensions.

I don't mind letting a 39 year old Zuc go and making Kirill drop the E/W game they played together.
If it's Boldy or nothing Yzerman is going to be stuck with a disgruntled captain since everybody else is moving on with their teams. Billy G should be moving on soon too. I like the idea of going younger and giving some of the kids the chance they need. We may be surprised.....

The forward depth chart makes no sense. Sharapov on the first line? It would make a lot more sense to move Yurov to wing and have Sturm center the 4th line.

Any one who was ineffective in playoffs specifically Avs is gone. Tarasenko Middleton Zuccarello Johansson. Guessing Sturm and Hartman next.

It was previously reported that Larkin had expanded his acceptable trade destinations to six teams. That turned out to be false. Larkin isn't moving off of his initial three team list of the Wild, Florida and Vegas. Yzerman has pushed him to expand, but he won't do it. That leaves Minnesota as the only viable option. Florida and Vegas have moved on.

Hockey analysts everywhere consider Yzerman beyond delusional in asking for Boldy. The consensus is that Boldy is better, younger and cheaper. If the Wild were to put Boldy on the market, they do a lot better than Larkin. He is basically the biggest bargain superstar in the NHL.

Dallas can't afford to resign Robertson right now and he just filed for arbitration. Maybe they will trade Robertson for Larkin.....

That is the speculation. It sounds like the Wild would need to build a package around Erickson Ek to get a deal done.

I think Yzerman is trying to get Larkin to expand his trade list. Yzerman makes ridiculous demands and when teams tell him to pound sand, he goes back to Larkin and says he can't get a fair offer and he needs Larkin to give him more options. Of course, now that Yzerman has rejected a Robertson deal, he may just be playing a game and has no intention of trading Larkin.

Yzerman is going to hurt his team by being so stubborn. A Stramel, Yurov and a 1st is a really good trade for Larkin.......yet here we are.

Larkin has such a nice contract for us to get other pieces.....

The Detroit Red Wings have announced Steve Yzerman is transitioning from his role as executive vice president and general manager and will continue to serve the organization as senior adviser to governor and CEO Chris Ilitch. The Red Wings will now begin searching for a new head of hockey operations.

Yzerman will remain in his current role until his successor is named.

It will be interesting to see if this changes anything with Larkin....

I think Yzerman was determined to transform the Wimgs to a win now status. I think ownership realized how delusional that was. The new gm will no doubt leverage Larkin to acquire young players and picks to jump start the rebuild. In any event, Yzerman is probably a figurehead at this point and Larkin won't be going anywhere in the short term.

K guys, leaning an y'all for this one. I was in Europe for a couple weeks when this went down. Trying to read up on him, but, TBH.....had never heard of him before. What do we know about Shabanov? Just listened to JHS pod and they have him projecting as the top line RW.

All I know about him is what Russo wrote when they signed him. He kind of sounds like a smaller skilled player much like Brink.
I'm guessing they are bringing him in hoping Kirill can create some chemistry with his countryman since he no longer has Zuccy....

ST. PAUL, MINN. — Not long after acquiring winger Blake Coleman and defenseman Olli Maatta on Thursday, the Minnesota Wild signed young forward Maxim Shabanov to a one-year, $1.6 million contract. Shabanov, 25, wasn’t tendered a qualifying offer Monday by the Islanders.

The Wild envision him as a top-nine forward. While he’s smaller at 5-foot-9, he’s known to be skilled and a player who can support good players in a scoring position. He’s quick and shifty, can make plays and will get to the hard areas. A left-handed shot, Shabanov can skate on both wings.

In 2025-26, his first NHL season, he registered five goals and 18 points in 44 games.

Shabanov spent four seasons (2021 to ’25) with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL, scoring 67 goals and 150 points over 207 games. He ranked third in the KHL in regular-season scoring in 2024-25 with 67 points across 65 games and earned a spot on the KHL’s first All-Star Team. He scored 20 points in 21 games during the 2025 KHL playoffs, leading the league with 10 goals. He played in the 2025 and 2024 KHL All-Star Games.

He will be supported in Minnesota by fellow Russian natives Kirill Kaprizov, Yakov Trenin and Danila Yurov.
