I just did some continuing education yesterday encouraging wealthy people to "hire" their kids as a tax-savings strategy.

Falvey resigned. WTF?

Can’t say I blame him. Probably sick of trying to field a team under the constraints placed on him.

Jumping off a sinking ship.

Falvey should have been fired for his pathetic drafts a long time ago.

twinsfan -> RE: General Twins Talk (1/30/2026 11:49:19 AM)

Kwesi fired today. I guess they couldn't let the Twins have their own day. [X(]

David Levine -> RE: General Twins Talk (1/30/2026 5:36:12 PM)

In Derek Falvey's nine seasons overseeing the #MNTwins, they only drafted & developed ONE player to become an All-Star: Brent Rooker.

Bring back Calvin Griffith.

The Twins are at a lower point now than any time during the Griffith era. Even 1982 when they won 60 games. Half the team were rookies that a bunch of them became the core of the 1987 championship season.

Look at this year. The ‘core’ are a bunch of middle of the road under achievers, supplemented by castoff free agents who no one else wants. This is not building for the future. this is mediocrity by design.

TJSweens -> RE: General Twins Talk (2/2/2026 7:34:28 AM)

Hall of Famers produced from the 24 year Calvin Griffith era; Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew, Tony Olivia, Jim Kaat, Bert Blyleven, Kirby Puckett. Hall of Famers from the 42 year Pohlad era; Joe Mauer.

Calvin was a miserly old bigot, but he and the people he surrounded himself with, sure knew talent.

Twins players of recent vintage have been kinda screwed on the HOF ballot. Nathan and Johan both should have got more run on the HOF ballot. Nathan was the 2nd best reliever of his generation. Johan was the most dominant starting pitcher in baseball for a 6-year run. Hunter is hanging in there. Possibly could get a surge. Funny thing is, Johan and Nathan have better HOF cases than Hunter IMO. Not that Hunter has no argument.

Also, I would give the Pohlads credit for Kirby.

Why would you give the Pohlads credit for Kirby? Griffith drafted him, developed him and brought him up to the majors.

And it's pretty telling that the Twins gave up on him before he became an all star.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering the same thing.

This current regime probably would have said no thanks on Kirby now because he's too short.

Nonsense. he was already a star before they bought the team.

Were you even born yet?

Over Under Twins Wins right now:

72

Fangraphs has us at 78 Wins. Before the off season they had us at 82 Wins.

Basically with that low of win total---it means no one was betting the over so they had to drop it.

Wrong. Kirby debuted in May 1984. The Pohlads bought the Twins in June 1984. No way was he already a star. Point to me.

No points for you and what a stupid rationale. 1. Carl Pohlad bought the team on July 31. By then Puckett was batting .303, was making big defensive plays and had stolen 7 stolen bases. He was on his way. Another Griffith discovery, Tony Oliva, would get him the rest of the way there. Not only do you get no points, you lose points.

Former Twins player and 3B coach of the 87 World Series team, Rick Renick passed at age 81. RIP Hoss.

We have some talented starting pitchers. Can we coach them up? A little disappointed that we kept Maki.

Kirby Puckett became a nationwide household name while playing for the Pohlads. Hardly anyone outside Minnesota and baseball circles knew who he was when Griffith sold.

Nothing. I'm taking more points Away from Matt for doubling down on stupid. He loses even more points for Santana and Nathan who were acquired from other organizations.

They marketed him! And put together teams good enough to win two WS!

The 87 team was pretty much Calvin's players, including Puckett. Marketing a player is not scouting, drafting or developing a player.

Yeah, the Twins' pitching situation has been rough for a while. Trading away talent definitely stings. It's tough seeing guys like Baker on that list when their tenure felt so...fleeting. If you're looking for a more consistent way to build a winning team, I've been sinking some time into strategizing on @ Basketball Stars. It's a fun way to see how your drafting and team management skills stack up!

Is there a Baseball Stars?

It was a great Nintendo game. The first baseball game that would accumulate player statistics.
