BREAKING: As expected, MLB proposed a hard salary cap to union officials today as part of the next CBA, sources tell ESPN. The salary floor for teams beginning in 2027 would be set at $171.2 million which includes player benefits with the ceiling at $245.3 million.

GLEEMAN: Of note: No team in Twins history has ever had a $170 million payroll and this year's team would need to add roughly $65 million to hit this proposed salary floor.

Players will never accept a salary cap. Owners are wasting their time.

TJSweens -> RE: General Twins Talk (5/30/2026 11:37:38 AM)

SWR DFA'd. Klein called up.

Historicaly you are right. Players have never wanted anything to do with a salary cap. I hear Joey Votto on Dan Patrick show the other day and he was asked about a cap. He answered that admittedly he was out of touch with the union now, but in his day even the mention of a salary cap could get someone in an actual clubhouse fight.

I wonder if a floor combined with a cap might be the answer though. If you could structure it so you reduce the disparity between to top teams and the bottom feeders but the overall salary pool for all teams rises, maybe they'd go for that.

It shouldn't be hard to sell this to average players. The elite few get a bigger percentage of the payroll dollars every year. That leaves fewer dollars for the rest of the players.

A floor has always been assumed to go with a cap. It's still better for the owners and worse for the players, so the union won't accept it.

Bummer. He will be claimed. Good luck to him. Great guy.

I hate this team.

jimbo -> RE: General Twins Talk (5/31/2026 1:56:58 PM)

Swr has had enough time and hasn’t shown a thing, some team could claim him, he’s well below average.

From what I’ve seen Jenkins and Emanuel r are very consistent at getting injured every year they simply can’t stay on the field.

I think it's time to fire the pitching coach and medical staff.

When you keep losing pitchers due to elbow soreness.....You're teaching them the wrong way to throw the ball. You've lost what you should be doing, which is working the strategy to beat hitters. How to use the stuff a pitcher has to set up hitters and get them out.

Lost time due to elbow issues so far this year: Pablo Lopez, Bailey Ober, Joe Ryan, Taj Bradley, Mick Abel, Kenry Rojas, Did I miss someone? They are all coming down to the same issue....elbow soreness. which means you are coaching them to throw in a certain way that puts too much stress on their elbows.

I am calling for Pete Maki's dismissal.

Matthew Leach PST:

If you saw Grady Sizemore in the Twins’ clubhouse, you’d never know who he was. Nothing about his unassuming demeanor and quiet, businesslike manner would indicate that he was arguably the best player in baseball in the mid-2000s, or that less than two years ago, he was managing a Major League team.

--------------------------------------------------------------

NOBODY has ever argued Grady Sizemore was the best player in baseball in the mid-2000s.

LOL. That's just hyperbole. He was pretty good until the microfrature injury though.

His ERA was over 7......he will be claimed only to be sent to the minors.

That has been easy this year.....the question is what do you like (enough) about the team to watch.....

Joe Ryan, Buck, Keaschall, Taj?

It isn't just a Twins thing for pitchers.....it is a MLB problem. I read Cole made it 14 years w/o.....that isn't the norm.

David Levine -> RE: General Twins Talk (6/4/2026 11:23:32 AM)

We're watching history happen.

Lat night Ohtana got on base more times by himself than the whole team he was pitching against.

Ohtani reached base five times (3-for-4 with two walks) while pitching six innings, allowing no runs on two hits and one walk and striking out six in a 7-0 win. Further, his ERA after 10 starts is now 0.74. According to MLB’s Sarah Langs, that’s the third-best such mark in MLB history, trailing just 2021 Jacob deGrom (0.56) and 1966 Juan Marichal (0.66).

In his third consecutive two-way start, Ohtani hurled his third scoreless performance in his last four appearances, posting six innings of two-hit ball with six strikeouts in the Dodgers’ 7-0 thumping of the Diamondbacks.

He’s allowed just 1 ER across 24 IP over his last 4 starts.

Opponents are slashing a feeble .144/.224/.211 against him this season.

twinsfan -> RE: General Twins Talk (6/4/2026 11:35:16 AM)

Luke Keaschall has a lower SLG than OBP this season. That's Punto territory.

He's been hitting better lately. And if we'd have given up on Brooks Lee and Austin Martin because of struggles early on, where would we be right now?

Keaschall is going through what many a player goes through at this point of his career...the league figured something out about him, he needs to adjust, and regain some confidence.

TJSweens -> RE: General Twins Talk (6/6/2026 1:15:35 PM)

Lewis has been recalled. Outman has received his long overdue DFA.

When we will we ever get a true closer?! Tired of losing late in games because we don't have a closer.

I do think he has closer stuff......but that is just after watching him for a few games.

Nothing to do with you.....even if you want it to be...[&:]

Just checking in......
It will be July 4th in a little over 3 weeks, are just about out of it for the season yet?
