Here is a prediction. Christian Ponder is absolutely done in Minnesota.

Why am I actually making this prediction as an absolute? Simple.

ALL of the Christian Ponder jerseys are on clearance at NFLSHOP.com.. ALL OF THEM.

Done prior to this year or after?

My guess is he ends up starting a few games this year.

His jersey's are on sale because he stinks and nobody wants them! Shaun, Gonz, and thebigo can only buy so many jerseys.

I buy Chinese knockoffs only.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (3/23/2014 6:32:29 PM)

I don't think there will be any sort of cinderalla team winning the SB next year, the 20 teams I listed earlier all have too many holes, and their ceiling is likely a 1 and done in the playoffs.

Here's how I now rank the top 12 teams, the ones that actually have a chance of winning the SB:

1) Seattle - I would still put them at number one, but losing Golden Tate and some of their depth has gotta hurt. NE, Denver and GB are all closing the gap.

2) NE - Getting the CBs should help out that improving young defense. But they haven't won a SB since getting caught cheating, but did get favorable officiating in the playoffs last year

3) Denver - Manning does choke plenty, and having a HC that takes a knee isn't good, but they've added some valuable FAs. Of all the SB winners in the last 20 years, the only HC that surprised me was Dungy, didn't think he'd ever win a SB, thought he was too soft. But Manning helped him win one, and might help out another soft HC, as Manning makes one last push

4) Green Bay - Picking up Peppers could be huge, refs always like them, and tried to help them in the playoffs against SF last year. The Packers didn't really stop teams the last time they won the SB, but relied on turnovers from their 2ndary, which could once again happen. I would have ranked them higher if they had retained Jones and Dietrich Smith, not major losses, but decent losses.

5) Ravens - Still too many holes on defense, but they won the SB in a shootout, could make a similar run.

6) Giants - They've bounced back in the past, and have made some decent FA signings

7) Indianapolis - Still far too many holes on defense, but had an offense that came back 4 TDs down in the playoffs, and now might an even better offense with 3 amigos at WR.

8) San Diego - Might be a good upcoming team, an impressive win over Cincy in the playoffs.

9) San Francisco - Didn't improve team, might take a step backwards, and refs don't like them for some reason, probably because of Jim Harbaugh. Might see some chemistry issues surface here, but are still a contender as long as they have Kap.

10) New Orleans - I'm not really sure Brees still has the arm strength, but he is an accurate thrower, you can't totally count them out.

11) Pittsburgh - They're another team that has bounced back in the past, they have a good HC.

12) Carolina - This team had the defense, but lost a decent CB to Minnesota, and is starting over with WRs. They could be right in the mix of things if they can draft a WR that is an instant stud.

I'm NOT of the mindset that every year there are really just 12 teams that have a shot at winning the SB, just THIS coming season. It's just where I think teams are at, and how far away the other 20 from being real contenders.

In 2015, I think there might be 25 teams that have a real shot, maybe more, should 13 or more teams start to close the gap this year.

How Patriotic.

I'm saving my predictions to see if the Vikes draft a QB, holding out hope that that they might actually give him the nearly impossible honor of being the starting QB for the Vikings as a rookie.

6-10 at best...tough schedule. It will be tough to avoid an 0-5 start.

Ricky J -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (4/24/2014 5:51:58 AM)

Met a guy walking yesterday who I thought was a die hard Viking fan from past experiences. He had on a Steeler hat. I asked him why in the world would he have on a Steeler hat. He raised it to me and said, "This team will make the playoffs, your team won't!"

So I said I'd bet him, $10 on both teams and we did.

Pretty sad

Guest -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (4/24/2014 9:27:02 AM)

I predict that us playing a home schedule outside for the first time in over 30 years is going to be a bigger impediment than people may think.
A couple years down the road the experience may bode well for us on the road and in the playoffs ... but it might be tough at first.

Good point

How many of the current Vikings play poorly outdoors on grass?

Peterson on grass/turf

2013 - 4.8/4.4
2012 - 6.0/6.0
2011 - 4.0/5.2
2010 - 4.6/4.6
2009 - 4.2/4.5
2008 - 5.2/4.7
2007 - 5.1/5.9

Taking bets? I'll take the over. And as the father of a college aged girl I hope Winston never plays for this team.

Todd M -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (4/25/2014 1:06:15 PM)

No way I'd take that bet!

But...it's not too far fetched to imagine Cassel struggling out of the gate with one last hurrah for Ponder as he struggles some more leaving us with a terrible record.

I'm honestly not that knowledgeable wrt Winston's character concerns.

This is the weskest the AFC has been in two decades. I think the top 4 or 5 teams are all NFC

Got one right at least

RBIrving -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (5/13/2014 8:34:37 AM)

you got that right. The Broncos were easily the best team in the AFC and I think any of the top 4 NFC teams would have toasted them.

I'm not convinced Ponder will still be on this team on opening day, even if he is the only way I see him making it onto the field is if Cassel is injured and TB isn't ready to go. I think if Cassel struggles and the Vikes decide to give up on him they'll go to TB.

Bruce M -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (5/13/2014 5:48:50 PM)

I think its going to be very difficult again this year. They have started a new era and I'm glad of that and have some interesting prospects. Things are looking up. But...

1. They can't win on the road.
2. New coaching staff - can always be full of kinks.
3. Playing outdoors.
4. New systems for vets besides just the rookies.
5. Quarterback situation still as unpredictable as before. No one knows what we have in Teddy. We know the other 2.
6. Tough division.
7. Tough opening games.
8. Defense was appalling last year. Will the changes this year make a huge or incremental difference?
9. The ownership seems "off" to me. I don't how else to put it.

Couldn't come up with 10 at the moment.

Lots of things to struggle against. I'm just trying to be practical! I've barely been able to watch them (and usually didn't). Excepting Favre's first season, we haven't had a good QB since Daunte.

1 Sun, Sep 7 @St. Louis LOSS
2 Sun, Sep 14 vs New England LOSS
3 Sun, Sep 21 @New Orleans LOSS
4 Sun, Sep 28 vs Atlanta WIN
5 Thu, Oct 2 @Green Bay LOSS
6 Sun, Oct 12 vs Detroit WIN
7 Sun, Oct 19 @Buffalo LOSS
8 Sun, Oct 26 @Tampa Bay LOSS
9 Sun, Nov 2 vs Washington WIN
10 BYE WEEK
11 Sun, Nov 16 @Chicago LOSS
12 Sun, Nov 23 vs Green Bay LOSS
13 Sun, Nov 30 vs Carolina LOSS
14 Sun, Dec 7 vs New York WIN
15 Sun, Dec 14 @Detroit LOSS
16 Sun, Dec 21 @ Miami WIN
17 Sun, Dec 28 vs Chicago LOSS

5-11 (I'll give them one road win at Miami.)

EDIT: I can't count.

Here is a prediction for the first week of the season. Michael Sam will make the Rams team and get on the field for game one against the Vikings. He will do no damage to our purple helmeted warriors.

You keep using the term "purple helmet warriors".

You may want to google it...
