And Houston makes me look like an idiot by halftime..

On the way home from eating eating out (birthday thing) with my wife I keep thinking I'd like to put a bet on this game. I get home it's 7-0 Hou and it's -350 moneyline for the Eagles. I couldn't pull the trigger. They score and it shoots up to -750. Then it's too late and I feel like a fool.

I kinda of know what you mean, Dan.

Ricky J -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/4/2022 9:53:50 AM)

The underlying anticipation at 6-1 is so different from a 4-4. All week you think about the possibilities. You look for information to read about that gives you hope. The TJ Hock trade was the best mid-week thing that's happened all year. But then by Friday you keep searching for more - and you then you see Marty only picked us to win by 2 again. <wink> Seriously, I think making a prediction is fruitless. I have absolutely no clue what's going to happen in Washington on Sunday, other than the anticipation for those folks over selling the team is going to be through the roof.

Just win Vikes! Just win.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/4/2022 2:46:45 PM)

Ricky, I went with the Vikings winning by 3. I would like to pick them to win by 3 TDs every week, but this isn't '98, and I am just trying to nail the score.

IF the Vikes had this game at home, I would pick them to win by 2 TDs. The crowd seemed to affect them a lot last week.

Or, if Washington were still starting Wentz, I would pick the Vikings to win by 10.

Heinicke has his team rallying behind him and playing well, this will be a tough game to win. I think Cousins will start out overly excited, throwing a pick 6 early, and the Vikes will be down by 2 TDs.

And then MVP Kirk will lead the Vikings back to victory, getting revenge on his old team, just PP did last week.

Ricky J -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/4/2022 4:50:17 PM)

Marty, I sure hope that my line wasnt received in a negative manner in anyway. It just seemed to flow with the fluff - and i did <wink>

Thanks for your post

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/4/2022 8:51:20 PM)

Not at all Ricky, I was just clarifying why I picked Vikes by 3. I think this will be a tough game to win. Hopefully I am wrong.

Todd has the Vikings winning easily, 31 to something.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/5/2022 8:35:17 AM)

If the Vikings limit their penalties and other mistakes we'll be fine. Wash will make plenty and if we capitalize on those mistakes we'll take care of business.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/6/2022 9:15:47 PM)

I nailed the Vikings winning by 3, and was very close to the score: I had 23-20, and it was 20-17.

I think someone on the Purple Daily show predicted 20-17 Vikings, pretty cool.

I now think the Vikings have a shot at Buffalo. It would be if Vikes play a near perfect game, win the turnover battle, and do most of the small things right, which they have been doing.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/6/2022 9:22:30 PM)

I really like the Vikings offensive play calling. About the only team they've played that seemed as impressive at it was Miami. The Vikings might have lost that game if Tua had played.

It could end up Vikings and Dolphins in the Super Bowl.

But that dream could get put to rest if the Vikings lose by 3 TDs next week. The Bills don't seem as impressive in their playcalling, it seems like it has more to do with Allen's quick decision making, and his other abilities, his ad libs. Hopefully Donatell can get some ideas on how to slow down Allen, from watching the Jets/Bills game.

We went 3 qtrs w/o scoring a point.

Screen plays were a disaster yet he kept calling them.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/9/2022 6:14:14 PM)

We scored 10 points in the 2nd quarter, 14 in the 4th quarter, against Miami.

Maybe you're talking about a different game ? Against the Commanders, the
Vikings scored 7 in the 1st quarter, 13 in the 4th.

Maybe you're talking about a different game ?

I am not happy with the amount of points scored, but I like the way the playcalling has put the team in a position to win, I like the variety. It is successful despite weak interior OL, and despite Kirk.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/10/2022 10:29:53 AM)

It's been good in spots but downright awful in others.

Bill rightly calls out the routinely busted screen passes but I'll add a kicker. Forget for a moment that they hadn't worked all game long (and by "hadn't worked", I mean, they were almost all negative plays).

You are in the redzone and your "yet to take a snap backup QB" has to enter for 1 play. Mind you, this is a very tight game. You hand the dang ball off and get 1 or 2 yards. You don't ask him to pull off a TE screen against a front that has been all over it, and the QB, all game long.

That was pretty brutal. Kudos to Mullens for sort of pulling it off. AKA - he completed the pass and it wasn't a pick 6.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/10/2022 5:30:42 PM)

I agree that the play with Mullens wasn't a good idea.

Runs up the middle for 2 yards, or screens where you gain nothing, still help to back a pass rush off a little bit, or makes the DC less eager to blitz, so a screen doesn't burn them badly.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/11/2022 7:10:50 AM)

IF Buffalo blitzes heavily, you're going to be complaining the Vikes didn't counter with more screens.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/12/2022 7:34:31 PM)

I think the Vikes will lose by either 7 or 10 points.

My prediction:

Bills 27
Vikings 20

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/19/2022 12:14:46 PM)

The last game was almost 28-23 Bills, so I would have been close, but a botched snap and things got whacky, in a really good way.

I have drank the KOC juice, but apparently not enough of it. It sounds like there are a few of you that have yet to try it.

I am not sure the Vikings will lose a home game all year. Right now, I am thinking, if the Vikings lose at home, it will be to one of the New York teams.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/19/2022 12:16:07 PM)

We got this one.

I do not like the injury to Evans, that should help the game go over, but I feel other Vikings will pick up the slack.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/19/2022 12:23:16 PM)

Vikings 33 Cowpukes 30 OT

Whackiness: The game will be tied at 27, and at the end of regulation, the Cowboys will miss a FG, but have a 2nd chance at one as the Vikings are called for offsides. The Cowboys will attempt another, but it will hit the crossbar, and miss, no good.

The Vikings will win the toss, go down and kick a FG after JJ drops a TD. Dallas has a chance to win the game, but some WR I never heard of drops a sure TD. Dallas kicks a FG to tie the game at 30.

Minnesota drives down the field with less than a minute, and Joseph kicks the game winner, for 33-30.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/23/2022 6:46:58 PM)

New England 30 Minnesota 16

It will be 23-16 NE late in the game, then Kirk will throw an INT that is returned for a TD, making it 30-16 NE.

Kirk will at some point feel more pressure to make plays, so he will take a few chances. The Vikings' OL will do a little better than they did against Dallas, but NE has a better 2ndary than Dallas, leading to INTs.

I would be happy to be wrong on this, this is just how I see it playing out, the teacher winning over the student. I had this game as a loss before the season started, had the Vikings beating Dallas, but that was after a road loss at Buffalo.

Prove me wrong Vikings !

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/23/2022 7:47:57 PM)

IF the Vikings were to win the game against NE, I think they will need to score a defensive TD in order to win.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/24/2022 11:52:20 PM)

KOC has exceeded my expectations.

I said before the season they would win no less than 11 games, and not to count the chickens before they hatch, but they've won 4 games I didn't think they would win, and lost one game I had them winning.

So they're on pace to win 14 games, but can't overlook the physical Jets, and road games at Detroit and Chicago may be tougher than I thought.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (12/4/2022 7:15:57 AM)

Time to Jetta out and win the division:

Vikings 22 Jets 20

5 FGs for Joseph

Close but it was 5 FGs for Zurlein

kgdabom -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (12/5/2022 11:58:48 AM)

My prediction every week is Vikings win
Other team loses.
I'm correct 10 times out of 12 on that prediction.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (12/5/2022 10:10:22 PM)

You're right Scott, in fact, it was almost looking like the inverse would be true near the end of the 3rd quarter, and the Jets might win 22-20, the score was Vikings 20 Jets 15.

When I saw it was getting close to the inverse, I posted something on the game day thread to hopefully change the way it was headed, and it seemed to stop it.

It was sorta like where I had predicted Anderson would miss in regulation against Atlanta in the NFC Championship, but redeem himself in OT. I had the correct score of 30-27 predicted, except I had the Vikings winning in OT with a FG, except Atlanta did just that.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (12/5/2022 10:11:23 PM)

Nice job KG, I wish you were even more accurate, and hope you're 100% accurate in the playoffs.
