I think both dogs are winning today, and we will end up with Washington/Buffalo Super Bowl.

Todd M -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 5:23:23 PM)

Marty, you’re so bad at this you’ve made people not want to talk about football this weekend.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 5:49:32 PM)

All week I thought Philly was going to win, and I was tempted to go out some money on them.

This morning I thought Washington was going to win.

I'll probably be wrong about Buffalo winning, I encourage bettors to go put some money on KC.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 5:49:57 PM)

People could make money betting against my predictions.

Todd M -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 5:57:59 PM)

Only 75% of the time, Marty. [:D]

Todd M -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 5:59:12 PM)

I really hope you get 1/2 right this weekend. Chiefs vs Eagles is gross.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 6:24:35 PM)

I would like the explain some of the rationale for my picks today:

Washington vs. Philly

I thought the refs wouldn't let Barkley take over the game, that they might call a hold to take away a long run. That would make the game boil down to each team's passing game.

(That didn't happen, and I thought the refs showed slight favoritism towards Philly)

I thought Washington had the better passing game going in, as they had been on fire lately, while the Eagles hadn't been doing a lot with their passing game recently, relying a lot on Barkley, and their defense.

Philly had the better defense, and Philly's short passing game was quite good.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 6:38:11 PM)

Buffalo vs. KC

I thought going in that the Chiefs getting help from the refs has now reached a boiling point, to where, if it's a close game in the 4th quarter, there could be a reverse effect where they just "let Buffalo play", and don't flag them on any questionable aggressive plays that could be breaking the rules.

The only way I see the game going the other way, is if KC plays a totally clean game, and has a strong desire to show that they win because of their strong play, not because of the refs.

Could be an interesting chess match of a game.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 8:02:25 PM)

I don't think a player should be allowed to wear yellow shoes on the field, it looks too similar to a yellow flag.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 8:22:39 PM)

Same goes for yellow gloves.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/26/2025 10:49:30 PM)

0-2.

The positive this year is the Vikings aren't playing in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs trying to be the 1st team to win 3 in a row.

The Vikings against the Bills in the Super Bowl would be interesting next year, although you would hate to be on the losing end of it, and Allen might be REALLY hungry to win it, while McCarthy will still be a little green around the ears.

The next time the Vikings are in the Super Bowl, hopefully they're matched up against a team they can dominate, or at least get the opposing team's QB to make mistakes.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/5/2025 6:26:18 PM)

Last year was the first time I ever predicted a Super Bowl participant, in about 45 years, predicting it before the season started, Kansas City, had them beating Detroit.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/5/2025 6:27:54 PM)

I meant to post my prediction for this season a few days ago, it hasn't changed since seeing Philly handle the Cowboys.

This year, for the Super Bowl, I am going with the Minnesota Vikings over the Baltimore Ravens.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/7/2025 10:51:32 PM)

It's a bit easier after seeing just about every team play a game, but does anyone else have a prediction for which teams will be in the Super Bowl, along with the winner ?

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/10/2026 8:23:26 AM)

Hoping to get 4 out of 6:

RAMS over Panthers
Bears over Packers
Jax over Buffalo
Philthy over SF
Chargers over NE
Pitts over Houston

I would go Buffalo and Houston with everything else the same.

Trevor Lawrence will have one of his bad days.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/11/2026 3:40:37 AM)

Well we are 2-0 Mark, good start. I also liked Carolina to cover the spread at home, but lose the game.

I think Lawrence will play all right, they seem like a better coached team, but Buffalo could be too much for them. But I am sticking with Jax.

I was thinking Rodgers would be good for 1 playoff win with the Steelers, and then probably lose the following week, but Houston is a tough matchup. I will still go with the Steelers and Tomlin.

Anyone still longing for Harbaugh?

Not a factor from what I've been reading.

There was a lot of "we had him in the building" talk. That's cool if people like him but I don't see anything special. Had a good run with the Niners back in the day though. Chargers are a lot more like us than many will admit.

Rob Viking -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/12/2026 10:45:44 AM)

Harbaugh is a great coach, but he was definitely outcoached by an A+ staff in NE. He will need to reinvent himself a bit and hire a proper OC instead of Greg Roman.

The Chargers will be true contenders next season if their OLine can remain somewhat healthy.

Not bad Mark!

Tomlin leaving (actually just left) Pittsburgh.

David Levine -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (1/13/2026 1:40:56 PM)

The Steelers will now be looking to hire just their fourth head coach since 1969.

On Jan. 22, 2007, the Steelers made a somewhat surprising hire when they selected a 34-year-old Tomlin to replace Bill Cowher over a number of strong internal candidates. Two years later, Tomlin hoisted the Lombardi Trophy at 36 years old, at the time becoming the youngest coach in NFL history to win the Super Bowl.

Over his nearly two-decade run, Tomlin went from the NFL’s youngest coach to league’s longest tenured. The coach who famously has never endured a losing season compiled a 193-114-2 regular-season record — he tied legendary coach Chunk Noll’s franchise record for regular-season victories, and did so in 33 fewer games. Tomlin currently ranks ninth on the NFL’s all-time wins list and his .628 career winning percentage is 26th all-time.

Within league circles, Tomlin remains one of the most well-respected men in football, and has regularly been voted the coach most players most want to play for. He’s led the Steelers to the playoffs in 13 of his 19 seasons and has won eight AFC North titles, including this season.

However, recent postseason disappointments have complicated his legacy and caused his approval rating to decline dramatically in Pittsburgh. His playoff record stands at 8-12, and Monday’s loss was his seventh consecutive postseason defeat, tying him with former Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis for the longest playoff losing streak of all-time.

In many ways, Super Bowl XLV is a pivot point in his postseason story. Before his Super Bowl meeting with Aaron Rodgers, Tomlin’s postseason record was a sparkling 5-2, with two AFC Championship Game victories and one Lombardi Trophy. Beginning with the loss to the Packers, he’s 3-9 in the playoffs. Entering Monday’s game, Tomlin has not won a playoff game since Jan. 15, 2017.

Nice job Mark, you got 4 out of 6, what I was hoping to get.

I got the 1st 2 games, and then got all of the next 4 wrong. I almost changed to SF that day, but thought the Champs would be good for 1 playoff win, while SF continues their disrespected tour.

I thought Herbert having an advantage of playoff experience might be the difference over Maye, forgetting that Herbert's playoff experience is losing, and how bad the Charger OL was, except when they played the Vikings.
