Even if we were to "earn", lol, the 1st pick in the draft, would they even select Luck since we have Ponder?

I certainly hope so.

Although if we finish 4-12, we likely will have to try to trade up for the #1 pick.

Hmm, this crosses more than gender barriers, but can McNabb beget Ponder?

I think you need to have more than a 1 or 2 year stint at the end of your career to "beget" someone.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/16/2011 7:15:26 PM)

Even Carolina would. Luck is the second coming of Peyton Manning. Even though Cam maybe a franchise QB they could trade Luck for a pot of gold.

We definitely should take him if the opportunity is there. Ponder can back him up or if shows something between now and then we can trade him like philly did Kolb. starting QB's arenot hard to trade.

JC.  Forgot about Indy. They might not win more than a couple as bad as they looked.

I suspect there will be at least one team with two or less wins this season, and they'll be extremely unlikely to trade away the #1 pick.  They'd no doubt demand a King's ransom for it.

This is one #1 pick that is guaranteed not to be traded.

I'm not at all a fan of tanking a season to get a pick, but I could see a team doing it under the right circumstances. If you have a lot of old players, and plan to fire your coach and staff, I could possibly understand it.

Pretty hard to get behind any plan like that though. Losing is a bad habit that is hard to break.

I'd like to predict a new open air stadium deal in Arden Hills. But it will be the LA Vikings.

The more I see about the stadium issue, the more I'm inclined to agree that they will be moving to LA.  At the rate things are going, this could easily be the last year the Vikes play in Minnesota.  So regardless of how badly they do this year, I'm going to try to watch as many games as possible (not always easy since this part of Iowa shows Bears games if they overlap) since this might be the last time I ever get to see them.

Nate -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/16/2011 9:48:00 PM)

I agree we should get Luck if we were there, but I could almost see us being dumb enough to think we are set with Ponder and either not take him or not trade the pick for a kings ransom. I also agree that unless we truly are that horrible, tanking is not a honorable plan. I can't see Frazier subscribing to that.

So the orders to tank the season would come from ownership, and executed by the coaching staff about to be fired? [sm=scratch.gif]

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/16/2011 10:18:09 PM)

If the Vikings got that pick it would Ponder, not Luck, on the trading block!

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/16/2011 10:18:35 PM)

But this team is not losing 10 games so it won't even sniff him

I haven't examined it as thoroughly as you seem to have, but my guess is it would be more subtle than that. Ask Marty about the details.

I hadn't really thought about it.

Well I picked the Vikes in the suicide pool.
And weighted them 16 in the Pick and Gloat.
So, there's my prediction.
I like us big in this one.
Lock of the week.

Lynn G. -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/17/2011 8:14:12 AM)

Way to go Art! I love that confidence (and I sure hope you're right).

Yeah that didn't work out too well for ownership in the movie "Major League".... [&o]

Luck is such a lock to be a "Generational QB" that I almost think he could be a bust.....

not really....

Dana Turner -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/17/2011 10:33:59 AM)

Vikings 24, Bucks 17

Vikes 31 Tampa 20

Like all the positive thoughts.
We almost have to win this one, don't we? (if we are any good at all)
Too many "needs" on our side.
Team "needs" to win some fan support
McNabb "needs" to start the year on apositive note, at least at home
AD "needs" to show his appreciation for the big contract
The coaching staff "needs" to get the ship righted and heading the right direction.

I see the same as many others here.
A tight win, by a TD or FG.
We "need" it.  [:D]
Vikes 20
Bucs 17

If it's a competitive game, the fan support will be there. If we're down 20 in the 4th, not so much.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/18/2011 1:49:18 AM)

I'm sure my prediction will surprise some of you, I usually pick against them or have them barely winning. Hope it's the kiss of life [;)].

Vikings 34
Tampa 6

The way I see it, if the Vikes lose this one, they will not win more than 4 games this season. This might be their weakest opponent all year, and it's at home. I think the Vikes will get 2 TDs from the defense, one by Erin Henderson and the other by either Cook or Abdullah. I'll go with Abdullah, so it's Henderson and Abdullah each getting a TD, but Henderson's is a fumble caused by Greenway which Henderson brings in for a score.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/18/2011 9:02:46 AM)

Tell you what, the chances of making the playoffs as 0-2 not good

If we don't win today then when will we?

Watched Stanford beatup AZ last night. It is confirmed Luck is the real deal.

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/18/2011 9:36:41 AM)

You will need much comp than that to make a definitive statement about Luck

People are way overhyping this guy

So much of a player's NFL success is determined by factors far outside of their control

Steve Lentz -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/18/2011 11:13:49 AM)

Luck is the real deal. I've felt that way since the start of last year. Would love to see him in Purple.

Guest -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/18/2011 11:20:18 AM)

Luck is a stud, but Arizona was leaving not one, but two guy's 10 yards open in the secondary.

If Luck is a bust in the NFL, then I dont know how you scout a QB's progression to the next level. The guy really has it all, but we will see how great this kid is later (Better opponents), as he's doing it with a fairly leaky Oline this year.

joejitsu -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/18/2011 3:08:39 PM)

My prediction for the rest of the year is we suck. Extremely disappointed with today's game. And last week's game.
