No, I think the league prefers passing, and they'll prevent Peterson from taking over a game with a whole bunch of runs late in a game, by flagging anything that might be close to being a hold.

I was going to predict a lopsided win for the Bears, but I might be UNDERestimating Frazier. Maybe we have just what I've been hoping for for a long time, a good HC. If you're teams not getting blown out, you probably have a good HC.

I remember early 90s when the Vikes had a LOADS of talent on offense, and a defense that would destroy you with it's pass rush if it got up on you, but then Mike Ditka would come in and run the ball 18 times in a row, the clock runs out, and the Bears pull out a win.

I've been predicting a 2 or 3 win season, but maybe the Vikes will exceed that by a decent margin ? Maybe the Bears aren't as good as they were last year, and the Vikes go in and beat them ? Maybe the Vikes pull a big upset and hand the Packers their 1st loss of the year ? Maybe things will look a bit different a few weeks from now ?

The Vikes do seem better coached, but just have some poor throws by the QB, some lack of talent at WR, some weaknesses at LBer, and then they some drives get killed in the 2nd half by holding penalties.

I like that Frazier disciplined Berrian, and maybe he can make him into a star ? IF Berrian becomes a good deep threat, the Vikes could become quite competitive this year. I remember liking that the Vikes had gotten Berrian as a FA, great speed, a pretty good deep threat, just that he dropped an occasional bomb. IF he starts holding onto most of them, regardless of the QB, this could end up being a vastly different season.

I'm going to go with the Bears, but it's going to be a close one, and fairly high scoring:

Bears 30
Vikes 27

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/20/2011 9:17:18 PM)

Are you guys and gals ready to watch the greatest upset in Vikings' history ?

I was hoping the Pack would be favored by about 6 so all the money would be on the Pack, and then the refs would 'sway' it in the Vikings' favor, leading to the Vikes pulling the greatest upset in the teams' history, leading to speculation that the NFL wanted the Vikes to win it to keep them in Minnesota and get a new stadium deal.

But I don't REALLY want that, I would like the Vikes to win where it doesn't seem like the officials are handing the game to them. I don't like the 9 point spread, but I think the betting would be about even, hopefully there aren't too many people betting the Vikes to keep it close at home.

I fully expect MASSIVE blitzing from GB, do the Vikings' coaches expect this ?

IF the Packers do NOT blitz heavily, I think the Vikes will play them VERY close, but lose. If so, I hope it's because the Packers made plays, and NOT because the officials give the Lombardi darlings the help they need to make sure they win.

Packers 41
Vikes 23

IF the Packers blitz heavily, and the Vikes are totally caught by surprise, then it probably be more like: Packers 46, Vikes 20.

How do you start your post predicting an upset and then end with a prediction for a Packer victory?

Todd M -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/20/2011 10:20:26 PM)

Covering the spread in this game could save the franchise!

Kind of sad that the Vikings will lose and the game will still be considered the "greatest upset in Vikings history"...

Brad H -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/21/2011 4:28:37 PM)

Packers 34
Vikings 16

Prescott -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/21/2011 4:59:19 PM)

Packers 42
Vikings 17

I see no reason for the Packers to take it easy on us, and our pass defense is brutal.

Lynn

I didn't PREDICT an upset, I just asked if anyone is ready to see one. I would love to see one, it seems unlikely, and if it happened, it might well be the greatest upset WIN in the history of the franchise.

Bad news on the spread front: The opening line was Packers -9, and has moved to Packers -8. That obviously means much more betting on the Vikings and the points. In my 30 odd years of watching the NFL, I can remember 1, maybe 2 times where the line moved and the bettors ended up being right. The bettors being wrong during that time is probably well over 80. For some reason, perhaps coincidentally, it seems the officials tend to go against the bettors in most cases.

I had to edit my score, as I don't think the Vikes will get that many points.

Packers 51
Vikes 23

I think both Harvin and Cobb will get returns for TDs. The TD that will put it away for the Pack will be set up by a PI call against a Vikings' CB, but it will be a legitimate one, not a phantom call.

[IF Chris Cook (or ANY Viking defender, I'm just guessing he will be the one to do it), gets a INT returned for a TD, I think the Vikes will WIN. I just don't think this is likely to happen. There was a stat posted in a game awhile back that stated, if a team gets a defensive TD, the chances of that team winning the game is around an 83% chance they win the game.]

Who cares what some bozo named Marty from Wisconsin is predicting will happen, he's wrong at least half of the time !!! [sm=clown.gif][sm=taunt.gif]

Prescott -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/21/2011 10:17:52 PM)

LOL the thing I like about you Marty is that you make so many predictions that it's IMPOSSIBLE for you to ever be truly wrong. At least one of the things you say is likely to happen. Like they might upset them, or they might not. [;)]

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/22/2011 7:34:28 PM)

I was excited about this game until I heard about Chris Cook (who, oddly, I predicted would need to get an INT for a TD for the Vikes to win), whom I think is the Vikes best CB is out.

I'm a little angry because I now think there is almost NO chance the Vikes win this one.

I'll now just hope that Ponder makes some plays and gives the team hope for the future. I'll just savor any good plays, knowing there is no chance the Vikes will win this game. I was going with 41-23 before Cook was declared out, it should now be amended to:

Green Bay 51
Minnesota 23

Thomas O. Eliason -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/22/2011 7:37:44 PM)

I have counted to infinity several times.

Nate -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (10/22/2011 7:42:17 PM)

I'd like to convince myself that the Vikes are pissed that they were humiliated so badly against the Bears, and that there is no way in hell they will let the Pack do that to them.  That, combined with a fresh new look at QB will hopefully rejuvinate us to be at least a respectable opponent in this game.

We lead at half 10-7 and then:

Gross Bay - 24
Vikes -17

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/14/2011 8:25:26 AM)

Having the bye week to prepare, Ponder at QB, Winfield playing, the Vikings could make a game of it.

I think they will, but there is just too much talent difference at WR, where the Packers have 3 studs in Nelson, Jennings and Finley, and 3 other strong ones in Cobb, Driver and Jones.

Packers 34
Vikes 24

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/20/2011 8:45:05 AM)

Vikings 27
Raiders 24

Vikings WIN !!!

Benny Sapp, glad to have you back!

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/20/2011 10:17:33 PM)

Pretty close on the score, 27 was right on, I just had the RIGHT team winning !

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/21/2011 8:20:01 AM)

NFC EAST
Cowboys 10-6
Eagles 8-8
Giants 8-8 (losses at Saints, Cowboys, jets, home loss to Packers)

NFC NORTH
Packers 15-1
Lions 10-6
Bears 10-6 (can Vikings upset them last game of year at the Dome? if not, 11-5)

NFC SOUTH
Saints 11-5
Falcons 10-6

NFC WEST
49ers 13-3

1. Packers
2. 49ers (shock of the year)

5. Bears
6. Falcons

Not sure about the 3-way tiebrekers ATL beat Lions and lost to Bears

Saints over Falcons
cowboys over Bears (without cutler)

Packers over Cowboys
Saints over 49ers

Packers over Saints

AFC EAST
Patriots 12-4
Jets 9-7
Bills 8-8

AFC NORTH
Steelers 12-4 (their schedule is real weak)
Ravens 11-5
Bengals 10-6 (can they beat either Ravens or Steelers)

AFC SOUTH
Texans 10-6 (should be able to play .500 ball even without Schaub with their weak schdule)
Titans 8-8

AFC WEST
Raiders 9-7
Broncos 9-7 (lose because of division record)
Chargers 8-8

1. Patriots
2. Steelers

3. Texans
4. Raiders

6. Bengals

Bengals over Texans

Patriots over Bengals
Ravens over steelers

Ravens over Patriots

Packers over Ravens

Guest -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/21/2011 8:42:01 AM)

JC....Pretty good break down and I'd almost say I agree with your assessment completely.  I do not see the Ravens getting into the Super Bowl but they are contenders....also, if it were a Packer vs Ravens Super Bowl I see the outcome a little differently.  As much as I hate to say it, I'm not sure where the Packers are going to lose a game at all.

Its one thing to have to listen to Packer fans rail about how many Super Bowls and World Championships they have won....if they have an undefeated season the land mass of the state of Wisconsin may have to expand to include Michigan and Illinois to compensate for the ego's alone.

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/21/2011 8:57:47 AM)

good points Ed

if the Lions can't pull the upset at home they may go 19-0

As for the AFC, at this point it would not surprise me to see one of Ravens, Steelers, or Pats win

I would be shocked to see any other team emerge from the AFC this year

I really hate the Cowboys but Shanahan blowing that game yesterday may have paved their way to the NFC East title

Guest -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/21/2011 9:23:22 AM)

Agreed...If the Packers were going to lose a game this season I'd pick this week for that to happen.  If they get passed the Lions i think they roll into the post season undefeated.

Packers remaining schedule:

@ Lions (biggest chance to drop a game)
@ Giants (could be tough, but the Giants don't really scare anyone)
vs Oakland (At Lameblow....they won't lose)
@ KC (won't be close)
vs Chicago (at Lameblow and Chicago without Cutler....No way the Packers lose)
vs Lions (At Lameblow and they will be motivated to close out a perfect regular season...they won't lose)

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/21/2011 9:54:41 AM)

The Giants do have the ability to rise up and beat anyone - as the Pats will attest to

Get past there and it is over

Can you see the Packers losing at home in the playoffs?

The 07 Giants did it but the 11 giants do not run the ball like those guys did

Lars -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/21/2011 9:55:41 AM)

As of right now....I kinda like the NYG in that game.

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (11/21/2011 9:58:54 AM)

The giants probably won't make the playoffs

they are tied with Dallas but have the Saints and Packers next 2 weeks
