Good Lord
finish them!
Jeez!

panndder -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/26/2013 8:23:11 PM)

Never doubted them. Waited since 1997 for something like this. Just one game, but one you will remember forever.

Now I'm going out to celebrate.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/26/2013 8:33:42 PM)

If I live to be 100, I will never figure this effin team out. They play down to the level of ham and eggers and then turn around and beat the #1 team in the nation. I'll give credit where it is due. Great win! Losing to Indiana started us on our tailspin. Maybe beating them will ignite a hot streak.

Pete M. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/26/2013 9:06:16 PM)

I don't think my voice will recover for weeks. Loudest I've heard the Barn since....?

Steve Lentz -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/26/2013 9:17:48 PM)

NCAA BABY!

No ones on this?
Biggest game of the year.
Just can't do anything easy
Missing FTs down the stretch

I was booked on meetings. Now on the school board, and we're getting ready to add onto the school
(BTW, anyone looking to contribute to a good cause, PM me [:D])

You're on the practice facility committee?

Yep, at the local school for William/Olivia.

Adding 3 new classrooms and a new gym.

Now, if I were at the U, on the practice facility committee, THAT would be something.

That's a short celebration, son!

...Clem left.  No doubt about it.

I was there as well -- what a great game.  Panndder, were you in the house as well?

Best game I've seen live since January '92 when we beat the Fab Five.

Has the crowd ever rushed the court at Williams?

Negative.  Rushing the court wasn't really a "thing" back in the late 80s, and sadly we haven't had that kind of win since it did become a "thing".

I'm just relieved that they didn't start tasing people.

The way this team is playing and have played, they will probably beat Indiana at home, then lose out to Penn State at home and to Nebraska and Purdue on the road.

I had posted this on Feb. 21.

Let's hope the rest of my prediction doesn't come true.

The espn guys were hilarious .... "they're rushing the court! Even the old dudes!". " yeah, I just saw a seventy year old rush past me!"

Agreed (although there were big wins in the 90s -- but even then, wasn't nearly as common).  I suppose if you're going to do it, last night was the night -- but I am generally anti-court rushing.  That's for schools from crappy conferences.

Confirmed, which was pretty funny.  With about three minutes left, the students started filling the corner aisles...then with about a minute left, it was a free for all to get position, age be damned.

Tyus Jones sent a congratulatory tweet afterwards...but yeah, would have been a pretty sweet sales pitch had he been in house last night.

Tubby had impromptu presser today saying him and coaches are out recruiting today. They have good day to sell program

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/28/2013 2:58:13 PM)

ESPN 1500

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague said on Thursday he thinks the university's plan for athletics facility building and updating is in good shape financially.

That includes a practice facility for the basketball team -- which Teague says is a need, not a want.

Teague said he thinks private money can build that building.

"I feel like we're in good shape there," Teague said. "It's not going to be easy. It's a matter of cultivating and selling what we're doing. I feel good about where we are at."

As far as Williams Arena goes, he's not one who would like to tear it down and start over.

"I think we would want to add amenities," Teague said. "I don't feel like we need to do a whole lot to the inner bowl. I just think it's too classic and it's too historical ... just too much a part of this state."

Teague said the university hopes to have the facilities plan finalized by mid-April and then take the ideas around the state to introduce to residents.

On another matter, Teague said he knows the changes in the Big Ten Conference aren't liked by everyone, but he says he likes the way it appears to be falling for the Gophers.

"As far as where we are, it looks like the divisional make up will be favorable for us," Teague said. "It's very regional. Moving forward with expansion, I don't know what'll happen."

Whatever happens, Teague said he feels comfortable with the future of the conference.

"We've got a commissioner who is, in my eyes, kind of the leader of college athletics in a lot of ways and he does it in a way that's very smart," Teague said. "The Big Ten Network is a brilliant idea. It continues to thrive. I'll tell you, being in the room with Jim Delany is very fascinating. He is a bright, great guy, and he understands things so deep."

Its truly the Fenway Park of basketball venues, or getting there.

Agreed.

Maybe that preposterous statement from a few years ago shouldn't have made the Flabergasted Four?

Paul Walsh (Star Tribune): talking about Williams Arena's raised hardwood floor, "It also makes the court among the world's most famous athletic surfaces, along with the grass of Wimbledon and the bricks of the Indianapolis Speedway"
