ORIGINAL: SoMnFan Man, I was pleasantly pleased this season with the Gophers "athleticism". Thought we had turned a corner on that. Seeing these teams that are left .... maybe we haven't. Oh my. It is a game currently dominated inside by large, long, angry, skilled, quick, athletes. Last couple years the ocasional fat guy/soft guy/smallish guy has been able to compete down in the paint. No more. Marquette had athletes.....athletes that can't hit the broadside of a barn in terms of shooting. Athletes that could not recognize how to work a zone if their life depended on it. On the other hand, Syracuse defense was amazing.....they cover ground so quickly. One has to have at least one player on the court able to control the tempo for their team. Syracuse was ignored heading into the tourney. They detroyed Montana in the first game. Now Montana isn't a big time program but Syracuse used that first game to show they were ready to prove everyone wrong. Wichita held on........they looked good but were shakey at the end. but nice to see a Missouri Valley Conf. team in the Final Four. It is a very good conference these days.
