ORIGINAL: Dave E Agreed. I assume that's why Kaler hired Teague in the first place. Pete, I get the sense that you feel the only decent hire that could be made was Flip...yet what about Teague suggests that would be a good fit? Why not hire Joel Maturi Jr. if you're just going to hire the guy boosters want and turn over the keys to him? I assume Teague was hired to be very involved in the building of the program. I don't get the sense that Flip would have been content with that level of involvement from the AD. Thus far, we know (or are pretty sure we know) that one person (Flip) has been offered the job and turned it down. Although I know a lot of locals are up in arms that we haven't hired John Wooden yet, I don't see this search as nearly the disaster many are making it out to be. There are still lots of options out there. It seems absolultely ridiculous to me that we've made a judgment on Teague before a hire has been made. No, that's not the case. I think guys like Shaka/Buzz/Stevens/Hoiberg, etc., were much better options than Flip. But after those guys are crossed off the list, I'm not seeing a lot of guys that don't carry (in my opinion, obviously) a lot more risk than Flip. Andy Enfield has a lot of buzz right now, but man...I just don't know how I would feel about that one. Maybe at this point, the Minnesota job just has to accept a large heaping of risk, but I don't know if I can handle another Monson debacle that leads this program to the 12th of 12 jobs in the B1G (instead of 8th or 9th). For a guy who often reminds us, Pete, that we don't know what is going on behind the scenes, I'm surprised you've decided to hate Teague so much -- particularly considering the lock-down mode his office has been in during this search. [;)] Again, yes, there is always a risk that you end up with a Monson debacle -- but that holds true for any coaching hire. I think we can all agree that Tubby seemed like a good hire, but did not live up to expectations. With Teague's track record of identifying talented young coaches, however, both at VCU and in advising other mid-majors (which is well-documented), I'm comfortable with him making the decision. What about his track record so concerns you that you think he has no idea what he's doing?
