Every time I looked at the score they were ahead. Looks like a late meltdown. [X(]

A loss to St Johns.

sigh

What, did Lou Carnesecca return to the sidelines and Chris Mullen to the court?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/26/2014 8:59:01 PM)

I liked em then ....

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (11/26/2014 9:03:03 PM)

16-2 St Johns run to close it out ... [X(]

Yeah, me too. Probably my first ever favorite team. Always wanted them to take down Ewing and the Hoyas.

Yup
The "sweater" games between Lou and the hulking John Thompson.
Remember that crazy Michael Graham? Scary dude.
Those Big East days were so fun ... just battles.

It's what made ESPN special back in the day. It's all I would watch. College hoops, SportsCenter, more college hoops, some pool, America's Cup, then another college hoops game, and re-runs of SportsCenter.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/2/2014 9:05:22 PM)

Andre Hollins woke up with 27 tonight in the ACC challenge. They were still a little sloppy with the ball and fouled to much, but they did get a good road win.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/5/2014 10:11:15 AM)

Just read this morning that Dre Hollins is dating Rachel Banham. I wonder how many hours they spend in the gym together. Who wins playing horse? I think it's a good match

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/8/2014 7:28:03 PM)

Josh Martin transfers out effective immediately.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/8/2014 9:58:14 PM)

Don't know anything about the kid, but it's disappointing that he'd bail on the program this early.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/9/2014 7:25:45 AM)

Handled The Sue pretty easily last night.
We've got some pieces.
UND has a nice team, they will do fine as well.

Very talented and very very raw. He lost ground on the depth chart as the season progressed and decided to seek greener pastures. If the kid throws in the towel that easily, it's probably just as well.

Not sure how much some of you young guys know about this ...

MarkWren -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/22/2014 7:53:39 PM)

Man, would that Barn THUMP when "Sweet Georgia Brown" by Brother Bones would come on, as part of that phenomenal pre-game routine we had then. The place was electric, never have experienced a crowd or venue like it anywhere, since. For several years there, we were a basketball juggernaut & had a real national footprint.

Then Fred Taylor brought his Buckeyes to Williams and everything changed. I've read conflicting reports on exactly what precipitated the Corky Taylor knee to Luke Witte's groin. Wasn't there that night. Suffice it to say--no matter what precipitated it--that was a very dark night in the annals of MN sports. It's fair to say we've not yet fully recaptured that magic, and I'm not sure we ever really will.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/22/2014 8:02:05 PM)

So true Mark
Awful event that took a long time to recover from.
Once I clicked on the youtube video of the warmup I had to go onto the clips of that fateful night.
I remember feeling sick for a long time after that, being an impressionable little kid at the time. Hard to fathom for me at that time.
I loved those teams, and for them to do something like that really left a bad taste in my mouth.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/23/2014 7:24:06 AM)

That Gopher pre-game warm up was just awesome to watch. The Barn has never rocked like that since.

That night against Ohio State was a terrible spectacle. There were allegations of Like Witte elbowing Kent Nix in the face when the teams went off the floor at half-time. The bottom line is that Corky Taylor put it over the top with one of the worst things I have ever seen in a college athletic event. Corky kneed Witte in the kiwis and Ron Behagen ran off the bench and started stomping on him. Just and embarrassment to the U and its fans.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/23/2014 10:24:05 AM)

Furman gave the Gophers a good game last night. That should help getting ready for the Big 10.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (12/27/2014 2:33:32 PM)

Nice win for the guys today getting ready for conference play

And a 2nd half flop to lose at Purdue.

Another year, same basic faults. Too many bad shots, mental mistakes(like not blocking out). Last "big" bucket, Mo defends the wrong side of Hammonds, basic fundamental messup.

-8 in freethrows made too.

2nd half of the conference team. Maybe NCAA, but I'll be surprised. Not what Richie wants.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2015 8:59:38 PM)

25 points to one guy in a half.
Almost out-scores the team.

Gophs season is in trouble.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2015 9:10:25 PM)

But a quick start in the 2nd half. Woulda been sweet to can that second 3-pointer off the steal. Damn!

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2015 9:10:49 PM)

And they quickly gave it all back. [>:]

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2015 9:16:27 PM)

Our defense is terrible. This is almost unwatchable.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/6/2015 9:40:49 PM)

New game with 6 minutes to go.
