Seriously .... you should get your scholarship taken away from you if you shoot free throws the way the Gophers do.
Its criminal.

I see Pitino is starting to give playing time to Konatay and the guy who was ineligible. Less PT for Eliason.

If you shoot FT's as poorly as he does and you're a big, you should sit.

Start working to the future. THis cast of "leaders" lacks the leadership Austin Hollins had.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/21/2015 7:49:49 AM)

Bingo! I was not at all prepared for the leadership void Austin Hollins' graduation would create. Apparently neither were the Gophers.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/21/2015 8:02:27 AM)

We play stupid far too often. Too careless with the ball. We're great about taking it from the other team, but then we give it right back far too often. Too many forced shots, too many errant passes. Pitino's brought in some decent athletes to play his style, but they need to be smarter. Every possession matters, can't give them away. Agree on the free throws.

And are stupid afterward. Andre Hollins blames it on Adidas basketballs.

Loser mentality. This team is weak.

Inside info
(That I'll deny later)
Some Players are bucking against the "military-type" practices and atmosphere.

Kids these days are soft. Have no idea what real work is. Why in my day....

Get off my lawn....

Really I'm not that old, but I'm starting to feel like it.

Start playing a non-conference schedule that toughens up a team. Wayyyyyy overrrated.

lylej -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (1/28/2015 8:59:57 PM)

Find two guards who can assist in controlling the last two minutes of the game.
Sit Joey King when the game gets tight!
He has no idea....
Sad...
Coaching? These young guys need direction.

He made the MVC all-Freshman team at Drake. Why no improvement?

Wish someone could give us some insight.

Gophs win at home. Better play, overall, down the stretch. Tough year for NEB.

Still not a good over all game. 19 turnovers by Nebraska should have provided a larger score than 60

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/7/2015 3:46:27 PM)

As good as we are taking the ball away from the other team we are equally bad at finishing on the other end. Mathieu and Morris are great at getting steals but terrible at converting on them. They both appear to be mental midgets, so many bad decisions.

MarkWren -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/7/2015 7:02:34 PM)

Yep on both counts. I'd extend that to the whole team, in terms of basketball IQ & in particular, shot selection. But doggone it, they play their butts off on the defensive side and the rebounding woes we had earlier are not as bad now. Good win over a very solid Purdue squad, today. I hope the guys can sustain the energy level...wish we had a little more depth, because our style of play is incredibly taxing on us. I can see us collapsing down the stretch due to fatigue.

Mo Walker has improved by leaps and bounds, but has to have the softest/weakest hands on the team. Anytime he's near traffic down low it's a block, a steal, or a TO it seems. Love how he hits his FT's, though. Our freshman guard sensation could benefit from some FT practice, alright. Going to cost us a big game if he doesn't shore it up.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/9/2015 1:19:29 PM)

Gophers start playing more zone....start winning....hmmm

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (2/9/2015 3:21:16 PM)

I just saw where the Gophers got a 2016 commit from Rochester MICHAEL Hurt a 6-6 SG . Nice to get a home state player wrapped up already. He said he's already talking to Gary Trent and Amir Coffee to join him

Hurt has a little brother that is only in 8th grade and is tall too, and playing varsity, may be even better.

Seem to hear that a lot, that the younger brother is always better. I wonder why? Maybe they start playing with their brother at a early age
