You think we beat Wiscy if we face them again?
I watched that last game against them ... start to finish.
Wasn't happening.
I saw them as better than us,. You guys didn't.
Splash all the numbers you want.
I'm goin eye test. In my old blurry eyes ... we are not better than them. All I'm saying.
Lets see what happens.

Seeding isn't about potential head-to-head match-ups though.

We went to OT with them once, and had a horrible game against them. But I do like our chances - especially if we don't have Big 10 officials...

Good stat: Minnesota is the only Big Ten team with a winning record (7-5) vs. the RPI top 50, and also most such wins in the conference.

They don't deserve a higher seed than those three teams, imo.

RPI says we do.

Why Not? Wisconsin had lost 5 of 6 before they got back on track and beat Minnesota. Michigan has come on strong at the end but their track record had not been that great before. Michigan State has several bad losses on their record.

I think people are just conditioned to seeing these schools seeded high. But they all had pretty ordinary years. It was a down year for the big 10. Well, maybe not down, but more evenly matched across the board.

they got back on track and beat Minnesota

Sure they have the head to head advantage, but that's it. Gophers had a much better RPI and much tougher strength of schedule.

We seem to be a popular choice to be upset in first round

The overwhelming trendy upset choice.

It's understandable when you add it up: What Middle Tennessee did last year (15 beating a 2), the fact that Minnesota hasn't been to the dance in a while, they suffered a key injury, and weren't very deep even before that, and the fact that 12 over 5 is a very common upset. It happens almost every year. Because the smaller schools who don't play enough good teams to get a good RPI usually top out at a 12 seed, because nobody can really gauge how good they are. But sometimes they are very good.

But that's fine. It puts us in the underdog role again. Pitino can play the 'we get no respect' card. And this team has shown they have heart. They should be ready to go. At least I hope so.

Bill Jandro -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2017 8:52:05 PM)

Don’t expect a huge point spread in this game, as Middle Tennessee is one of the country’s best mid-major teams. The Blue Raiders added Arkansas transfer JaCorey Williams (17.3 points per game) to an already loaded team that includes star junior Giddy Potts (15.8 ppg) and senior Reggie Upshaw (14.5 ppg). Those veterans led Middle Tennessee to a stunning upset over No. 2 Michigan State last year. There’s no doubt that this team is better, which gives the Blue Raiders all the ingredients to pull another NCAA tournament upset.

These guys have a lot of fire power.

We're going to have to really out muscle/hustle them while keeping Lynch and Murphy out of foul trouble. Hopefully the refs let em play.

We will also need to put up some serious points.

Ian Joseph -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2017 9:00:15 PM)

I have MTS in the elite 8.

Ian Joseph -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2017 9:01:10 PM)

I'm gonna move the tournament thread here in the morning.

I have MTS losing in the first round. Go Gophers.

kgdabom -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/15/2017 9:18:18 PM)

Congrats to my Brothers Alma Mater UC Davis. Go Aggies take down the Jayhawks.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 10:33:38 AM)

I have the Gophers beating MTS in both brackets I did.

In one I have Winthrop beating Butler, then the Gophers beating Wintrop and going to the Sweet 16 and losing to NC.

In the other bracket I did, I have Butler beating Minnesota.

kgdabom -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 11:12:44 AM)

Gophers are officially underdogs. MTS is a 1.5 point betting favorite. Has this ever happened before where a 12 seed was favored over a 5? I'm sure this has to do with no Akeem Springs. Hard to be a six player team. Still picking Gophers to the sweet 16. Murphy and Lynch are going to destroy MTS inside.

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 3:15:39 PM)

Wow, MTS is a tiny team.

Lynch looks like young Shaq compared to his counterpart.

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 3:26:32 PM)

Need to stop being so in love with the outside jumpers.

Use our size. Pound them inside.

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 3:36:26 PM)

We're just non-stop bricking WIDE OPEN 3s, while I'm not sure we've allowed an open look on defense yet.

SoMnFan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 3:50:19 PM)

Couldnt pound a pin up ........

Exactly what I was worried about with some of these guys
Looking at you Mason

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 3:54:44 PM)

Missing Lynch. That phantom first foul was a killer (especially when he picked up a stupid one 9 seconds later).

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 4:03:08 PM)

Being only down 6 at the half while preserving Lynch for the 2nd half isn't the worst place to be.

Phil Riewer -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 4:04:23 PM)

I see referees blow the whistle anticipating a foul (when it doesn't happen) way too often....

kgdabom -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 4:11:58 PM)

Right now we are looking like the first higher seed to lose. Let's change that.

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 4:17:52 PM)

3-13 from 3, 7-13 from 2 and drawing fouls.

I get that all 13 three point attempts were ridiculously wide-open, but we need to pound the ball inside.

#4 Virginny was down 15 earlier today
Just gotta calm down and take over

twinsfan -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 4:26:49 PM)

We are losing.

David Levine -> RE: RE:Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/16/2017 4:29:29 PM)

Another stupid foul from Lynch.
