1-11 on 3's and they win going away.

LaSalle did them a favor playing man. MN is pretty competent in man offense.

Improve the 3's. That should be the goal of this bunch. with some BIG help, could be fun next year.

Looked like they were playing in a HS gym. Depth perception had to be terrible for them on the 3's. We know they have better shooting then tonight

GopherFan34 -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/14/2012 8:32:30 PM)

Nice game by Williams, Austin Hollins, and Welch. Welch had some turnovers , but he was huge in crunch time. Austin Hollins played good defense and hit some big shots. Rodney Williams is finally showing his NBA potential. The kid is as athletic as any player to play at the U. This is good experience for the young kids, especially Andra Hollins. I have hope for Joe Coleman, but he needs to become less turnover prone and learn to shoot the medium range jump shot. He has good defensive skills and he's a decent rebounder. Eliason will be a much better player next year, he needs to cut down on the stupid fouls, but he plays hard and has a knack for blocking shots.

Miles is certainly one of the (few) guys I'd definitely look at if the time came, but for all of his faults firing Tubby would be akin to welcoming chaos into this program. The "if Tubby can't win there, who can?" mentality would be hard to shake nationally, I think.

You are probably right Panndder....I get impatient. But I really think Tubby has lost the fire in his belly. It is really tough to maintain that over time....especially if you essentially start over. Coach K can maintain it since all he has to do is reload each year. The program sells itself these days.

But keep your eye on Miles if you are the U of M.

Normally, it can be bad going "home" per se. But in this case, the guy wins where ever he goes. No, the U of M is not his alma mater but he is an upper midwest guy. But he has left and is winning in a tough place to win. (nice place to go to school.....Ft. Collins is awesome). CSU was a hole in terms of BB. He has turned them around in 5 years.

And he was successful at NDSU in their transition years.......went into Madison and knocked off the Badgers....the program he established enabled NDSU to win the Summit league tournament their first year post season eligible.

And, he coached at Mayville State and was successful. Trust me, winning at my undergrad alma mater is no small feat.

What, no smsu props?[:D]
Like I said, he turned this program into a winner
Not easy to do here.

You handled that nicely in one of your previous posts. Didn't want to be redundant.

He was great at Southwest.

Turnovers now burying Miles' team after a very good first half for CState.

I seriously doubt the U will dump Tubby.

I'm actually hoping they do ok, and he bails, then they could pursue and up-and-comer like Miles.

More likely they will guarantee several more years of futility by hiring Flip.

BTW, we are really missing Ralph.

Isn't that something. I think they keep getting better each game without him.

panndder -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 1:13:51 PM)

I really hope you guys aren't serious. A team full of young guards gets better as the season goes on? A team that started the year planning to lean on one guy who they lost and then had to retool is looking better than they did soon after that? WOW. Must be because Sampson sucks.

He can be frustrating to watch, but he's a talented asset to this team.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 1:21:00 PM)

Early when Mbakwe was injured there was some speculation he may be able to get back in time for post season play if we got there. Any update on that? I suppose even if he is healed he'd be too far removed from playing to be of any help.

Ball goes into Ralph in the post.

Ball movement comes to a complete halt.

Ralph goes 1-11

Ralph uses up 2-3 fouls in first half.

Sampson is a soft, underachieving wus bag who would be on the bench were it not for his name. Honestly they miss Colton Iverson more than they miss RS III.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 8:55:18 PM)

Pretty impressive first half.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 9:40:36 PM)

Holy Crap
We suddenly look like Woodens UCLA Bruins.
Un-beatable to this point tonight.
Even when our offense bogs down, we still hit the leaners and prayers.
Everythings working.

Confidence.

Williams is getting to see more man-man. Kid can play. Work on that J and he could be good next year.

ZONE MN

Sheesh don't these schools scout??

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 9:42:49 PM)

How many will foul out vs Miami's super-size post?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 9:47:22 PM)

The trend of the BiG10 looking beastly this post-season continues. [:D]

And that's amazing to me. Maybe it's because the U looked so "close" in a lot of games, yet didn't finish, I wasn't
that impressed with the conference.

I heard some commentators saying it was the toughest conference in the nation, the best, etc.
I had my doubts. Still do.

Except now they're kicking around a lot of other schools in the postseason.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 9:53:54 PM)

Same here
The overall competition of the league certainly looks better now.
4 into the Sweet16?  Pretty damn impressive.

Should have been 5

Purdue really let that Kansas game get away

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 9:56:40 PM)

The ball movement MN is displaying is so fun to watch.

I know where this was all year.

Throw it in the post
Watch ralph fiddle around
Miss the jump hook

now they're moving it around so much quicker on the offense...MOST of the time.

Andre Hollins is maturing very quickly

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Mens) (3/19/2012 9:57:16 PM)
