Well, I was about 0 fer 5 on the pro calls
I was wrong also about those kids
I honestly thought gopher hockey meant more to them than it did or does.
Not happy with any of them
I understand, believe me, I understand. But it still pisses me off.
Exactly why we see more passion in our opponents most nights.
I don't like being a fan of the spoiled brats.
We need a thought process change in how we recruit.

Or a change to the draft process.

That's where Calipari can get away with it, compared to Hockey.

They're not drafted yet. The hockey kids already know a gig and fat contract are waiting for them.

Personally I am happy Haula left for the Wild. I don't want to see him regress any more under Lucia. I am amazed at how much he has done over the last 3 years and gets so little recognition for it.
I can't fault Bjukstad either. Not many kids in his position would have passed up the NHL to come back for a 3rd year the way he did.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/8/2013 12:18:14 PM)

No arguments from me on either of those posts.
Still think the type of player we look for has to change
Bjugstad did surprise me by coming back last year even.
Also agree on Haula. Great performer with less hype.
And I don't think he'll disappear among the wild prospects. His game will translate nicely, IMO.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/8/2013 12:30:44 PM)

Hell of a 7th round draft choice to say the least.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/8/2013 6:16:52 PM)

Bjug, for sure was gone but i thought Huala would stay. Simply for the fact that he has a lot of comp to get through to make the big club.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/8/2013 8:25:17 PM)

All the more reason to start now. Haula has improved as much as he is going to in college. He needs the next level.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/10/2013 1:54:18 PM)

Serratores ice time just increased exponentially
Not sure that's a bad thing. [:D]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2013 1:11:46 AM)

Two observations ...
* The WCHA was overrated this year (by me)
* The loss to Yale wasn't as embarassing as it first seemed.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2013 8:42:32 AM)

QUINNIPAC!?!

Really?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2013 9:08:52 AM)

No Hockey East and no WCHA. WTH???????????????????

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2013 9:20:18 AM)

I went back and looked. 1 time since 1980 -

1986 - MSU vs Harvard

Quite a run.

Should be the name of a Political Action Committee rather than an institution of higher education.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/13/2013 1:01:08 AM)

Congratulations to the St. Cloud State player, Drew LeBlanc, who just won the Hobey Baker. That's a big deal, and since he is a Minnesota native, we should all be proud.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/13/2013 2:28:21 AM)

Thats huge.
Great kid. I think he earned it as much for off-ice as he did on. Great for the school also.
The Hobey is a HUGE award. (in hockey circles)
Got to know Drew when he was a youngster, he's come a long ways. Improved at every level.
St Cloud State did SO much for Class A hockey in this state.
It used to be a scarlet letter, to be a Class A player.
This team, with Festler, Hanowski, LeBlanc, Benik, and others, have forever erased that unfair stigma. I hope.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/13/2013 2:42:52 AM)

Then he tops off the day by signing a pro deal with hockey's best team, the Blackhawks.
Yep, a very, very good day, kid.  [:D]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (7/23/2013 12:37:39 PM)

A lot of U.S. Men's National Team news in the last 24 hours -- seven former Gophers (the most of any college hockey program) were invited to USA Hockey's Orientation Camp next month and Columbus Blue Jackets head coach and program alum Todd Richards will serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Did you know Gopher Hockey has had a representative at every Olympics since 1936?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (8/3/2013 8:04:49 PM)

DonnyBoy looking and sounding good.

Love the level.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (8/6/2013 7:34:47 PM)

Skjei, Fasching, Cammarata and Brodzinski have made the cut at the USA Hockey ‪#‎NJEC‬ in Lake Placid.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (8/21/2013 6:28:29 PM)

Hard to believe ...

Golden Gopher Hockey

Happy 20th Birthday, Mariucci Arena! The home of the #Gophers was opened 20 years ago today!

Was a THRILL to coach there this Spring.
I was surprised how common some of the locker rooms are, but just knowing where we were and who has played there .... was scintillating.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (8/26/2013 6:33:34 PM)

Condon and Rau named Captains for the 2013-14 season.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (9/1/2013 8:22:08 PM)

Gophers men’s hockey coach Don Lucia suspended incoming freshman Gabe Guertler on Sunday for violating team rules.
The indefinite suspension comes before official team workouts have begun but will last at least until November. Guertler’s status will be re-evaluated then.
“While we are still gathering information at this time, we take this matter seriously and feel a suspension is warranted,” Lucia said. “We will continue to monitor the situation and will handle the matter internally.”
The Gophers athletic department wouldn’t comment further. Hennepin County public records show Guertler was arrested early Saturday morning by the University of Minnesota police department and charged with fourth-degree DWI (driving while impaired). He was released later that morning. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Oct. 11.
A university representative confirmed Guertler was driving a moped when pulled over. No other details about the incident were immediately available. The university police department said more details should be available after the holiday weekend.
A fourth-degree DWI is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Guertler, an incoming forward from Plantation, Fla., played the last two years in the USHL with the Fargo Force. Last season, he compiled 31 goals and 20 assists in 60 games. He was the second overall pick in the 2011 USHL Futures Draft and was expected to be a regular part of the Gophers efforts as a freshman. Guertler also played for the 2011 USA Hockey U-17 select team.

Finally!
Gophs just announced they will be hosting an outdoor game!
TCF appears perfect to host ....

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (9/6/2013 9:32:26 AM)

North Star Classic for the in state MN tourney .... Finally got something right! That'll be fun.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (10/12/2013 10:27:52 AM)

Nice win by the boys last night. 6-0 and it coulda been much worse. That being said, I have no idea what type of team Mercyhurst will have this year. Our speed just dominated them. Mike Reiley's goal was especially sweet. The rush out of the zone, the movement towards the net....thing of beauty.

One thing that is a bit concerning is the overall team size. We are fast as hell but small.

Mercyhurst is one of the favorites to win their conference. Happy to see we dominated them!
