Gophers landed a wide receiver they were recruiting pretty hard, Melvin Holland Jr. out of Virginia and OL Jared Weyler from Ohio. 4 star OL Frank Ragnow from Chanhasson will announce his decision on Friday. Down to the Gophers, Arkansas and Florida State.

Sounds like we had late competition from Wisconsin on Holland. Another big WR (6'3") with decent speed to go along with D. Jones and Wolitarsky. That position is starting to shape up. Now we need a big time QB recruit soon.

I'm cautiously optimistic on Ragnow. He invited everyone to his school on Friday for the signing. Hopefully he won't choose to go out of state with all those locals in the room! Jeff Jones is another huge get if he signs. Looks like it's us or Iowa State. I like our chances there also. If both of those things happen, then we did pretty well in-state.

Dimonic McKinzy could be that QB recruit. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Leidner emerge as a passer. That was his MO though high school. Pure passer with a big arm. The running aspect of his game developed after he came to the Gopher program.

Dimonic McKinzy might be that QB recruit you are looking for.

The Gophers got another wide receiver commit. They flipped Isiah Gentry from Moeller High School in Ohio from his commitment to Kent State. Gentry is 6'4". The midwest guy for rivals.com thinks this is a huge win for the Gophers. He tweeted: "Hard to overstate how big a grab Isaiah Gentry is for #Minnesota," and "Late bloomer was sensational as a senior."

Minn over Kent St should have been a easy pick. How many other bigger schools were after him?

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (1/29/2014 3:37:22 PM)

I don't know Jim. From what the regional guy from rivals was saying, the kid is a late bloomer. I'm guessing he didn't draw a lot of early interest.

Karl H -> RE: Gopher Football (1/29/2014 8:26:34 PM)

Gentry sounds like a good get. Keep your fingers crossed for Ragnow and Jones.

Philip Nelson to Rutgers....who we host in 2016.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (1/30/2014 8:39:35 AM)

If Kill nails down those two, he will have done a tremendous job of recruiting some studs that fit his system.

Bummer about Ragnow. Wonder if that was an SEC v. Big 10 thing.

Love the new WRs. Success this year seems to be paying off in terms of recruiting.

It appears these guys watched our bowl game.
And went "holy crap, I could play there immediately"

Arkansas seems like a better program than Minnesota for an NFL future.

Hey, whatever works. [:D]

I can't imagine how the kid feels ...
But I do know that the image of our receiver in that bowl game, wide open, (for the winning touch) looking up, opening his arms, and having the ball pass right thru them .....
Has stuck with me since that night.
WR was the one area on our team that was still filled by the "usual Gopher players".
Skinny, frail-looking, and inconsistent as hell.

If you're talented enough for the NFL, shouldn't matter. Clearly didn't hold Hageman back.

So many drops this year. Pathetic.

Murphy defensive lineman Gary Moore flips commitment to Minnesota

MOBILE, Alabama - Murphy defensive lineman Gary Moore flipped his commitment from Southern Mississippi to Minnesota on Monday, according to acting Panthers' head coach Rick Cauley.

The 6-foot-3 ½, 270-pound Moore originally committed to the Golden Eagles in October over other offers from schools like Troy, Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama and UAB.

However, Moore visited the Minneapolis campus the weekend of Jan. 24-26 and made the decision to make the switch Monday.

"He said he loved it up there," Cauley said. "(Former Murphy star K.J.) Maye is up there so I think it will help to have a familiar face around. He should be a good fit for them."

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (2/3/2014 8:58:22 PM)

Murphy High School (Ala.) three-star defensive tackle Gary Moore and Mentor High School (Ohio) three-star wide receiver Conner Krizancic both decided Monday night to renege on their commitments to other schools to sign with Minnesota on Wednesday.

Moore and Krizancic switched after being a part of recruiting classes for Southern Mississippi and Cincinnati, respectively.

The 6-foot-2, 193-pound Krizancic visited the Gophers over the weekend. The 6-3, 270-pound Moore visited on Jan. 24. He comes from the same high school as current Gophers wide receiver K.J. Maye.

The Gophers got their man. Jeff Jones signs his letter of intent and makes it official. Finally that big in state recruiting win. This more than makes up for that idiot Ragnow.

Apparently he has some grade work to improve to be eligible.

GPA and ACT

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (2/5/2014 11:01:04 AM)

Yep, he needs one more point on his ACT and he has several more opportunities to take it.

All in all this is looking like a real good class. More speed and more depth. Some quality gets at WR, RB and OL. It sounds like Connor Mayes (C) was a better OL recruit than Ragnar. He picked the Gophers over Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
