Here's another one you gotta like.

Gaelin Elmore, TE, Somerset (Wisc.), 6-6, 245: Committed last June and held firm, despite offers from Wisconsin, Nebraska and Vanderbilt.

Not only did Kill land the best in state top 50 recruit who was heavily recruited across the country, he got a Wisconsin in state recruit that the Badgers recruited aggressively. Maybe things are finally turning around. Who knows. That CDH DE who is supposed to be #1 in the country next year is a good friend of Jeff Jones.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (2/5/2014 1:13:14 PM)

Love it when good Wiscy kids come here.
That's a good get.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (2/5/2014 4:14:05 PM)

Ranks the Gophs #53

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/teamrank/2014/all/all

Maryland(54)
Rutgers(57)
Iowa (61)
NW (67)
Purdue (75)

All rated lower in-conference.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (2/5/2014 4:31:56 PM)

These rankings are about as worthless as WAR. It starts with the incredibly flawed star system. Stars can be gained or lost by how many D1 schools recruit a kid, the perceived level of competition in a state, friendship between an evaluator and a player's high school coach, reputation of the high school's program, etc. Then all the total stars behind all of the kids' names are totaled up and that's how they rank the recruiting classes. For example, we are rated 16 slots behid Indiana, 20 slots behind Wisconsin and 21 slots behind Nebraska who all had more scholarships to offer than we did and thus accumulated more total stars. The Gophers and those 3 teams were all within 0.22 stars per recruit of each other.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (2/5/2014 7:12:17 PM)

Yup. After Junky Brewster I lost any faith in the ranking system.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (2/5/2014 7:18:35 PM)

Yep, Basement Brew got canned despite his top 20 recruiting classes. I like Kill's attitude about it. "I don't need to read how many stars are behind a kid's name to tell me if he can play football".

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (2/5/2014 8:48:09 PM)

Anyone else cringing at the childish "I'm gonna play a little game of this hat or that hat when I announce my school"?
Could we please abolish that somehow?
Some real classless acts out there.
You are being showered with an incredible gift, could you please act like a grateful young man, if only for a couple seconds?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (2/5/2014 8:55:20 PM)

That post sponsored by Rick Rickert [:D]

Correction. Those rankings are more worthless than WAR, and you know it!!!!!!!!!

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (2/6/2014 7:42:33 PM)

Oh come on Matt. You shouldn't sell WAR short like that. A lot of nerds put a lot of effort into creating something that worthless.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (2/6/2014 10:35:08 PM)

ESPN named Basement Brew as one of the 10 best recruiters in the nation. Damn, it must be hard to recruit kids to Florida State.

Personally, that's not the way I would want my offspring to do it, but.......if there wasn't a market for it, it wouldn't exist.

Class is very subjective. Many people think Manning is a class act. Where does that come from?

I don't think that so many of these kids have been showered with a gift. I think most of them have worked very, very hard to get what some people consider a gift.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (2/7/2014 8:18:09 AM)

At least one kid tried something original and signed letters with 3 different schools.

You and Gardy think a lot alike, Sweens.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (2/7/2014 9:25:50 AM)

No, Gardy and I think nothing alike as a rule. Our position on WAR is the exception that proves the rule.

We need someone objective to weigh in on this.

Matt, make the call: Sweens and Gardy - same person or no?

Old? check check

Goes by the eye test? check check

Hates WAR and anything else remotely SABR? check check

Dorks? check check

Conclusion: Sweeney and Gardy are either the same person or twins separated (or maybe unseparated?) at birth.

Brothers/twins.

Why else would sweens want to have his dog poop on Gardy's lawn?

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (2/7/2014 10:39:59 AM)

Sadly, the little bugger got too old and arthritic and we had to put him down a couple weeks ago. Jack Russel Terrorists live a long time and stay incredibly active late in life, but when their bodies finally start to break down it happens fast. It's really sad to see.

Dave E -> RE: Gopher Football (2/7/2014 12:01:46 PM)

I'm sorry to hear that, Gardy, that's sad news indeed.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (2/7/2014 12:54:07 PM)

[&:][&:]

He said bugger. More proof.

But seriously, that is sad news. [:@]

You know I could parlay your incessant being wrong and belief in hokey numbers and start calling you Dustin.

Yep. Even further proof. Few people took as much joy in being wrong as Dustin.
