Mason had a big one too back in the day.  It was against Penn St if I remember right.  I can't, for the life of me, remember his name but the WR that got drafted by the Ravens made a huge play at the end and we kicked a GW FG.

Seems like that was in 1999. Correct? Or am I going too far back? I seem to remember watching that one in my apartment in Bemidji. Penn State #2 in the country at the time? That's how I remember it anyway.

Not sure about the year either but PSU being #2 sounds right.  It was a massive win, I remember that much.  The only one close to that, that I can remember was Mason telling Rhys Lloyd "don't forget the axe".

Remember after the PSU win they beat OSU but then lost to Indiana the following week

I was right...it was 1999. Just heard Mackey and Judd talk about it this morning. Mackey claims that win was bigger than a win tomorrow vs. OSU would be. I disagree. I think a win tomorrow would be bigger. It would give us a legitimate chance to win the West and get into the B10 Championship Game.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/14/2014 10:52:36 AM)

Oh yeah, not even close.  Those 2 are on crack if they really believe that.

I have a bad feeling.  Too many "good feelings" being thrown around.  My MN sports defense RADAR is buzzing at an alarming rate.

I'll say it again
Helluva weekend for the U of M athletic program.
Espn is treating us like we belong, almost.
There's a crack in the window, will be interesting to see what we do with it.

Excellant point. We need to grab the bull by the horns and win both contests. That would be huge for recruiting

I'll say it right now.
We find a way to beat OSU Saturday?
It'll be easily the biggest win in my lifetime.
That's why it seems highly unlikely.
OSU is on a mission, and is loaded with young talent. This isn't a struggling Buckeye program, like could be said of some other struggling "powers".
Beating Nebraska now, isn't that impressive. Beating Michigan now, isn't impressive at all.
Beating THIS OSU team would mean we are relevant. For the first time in a very very long time.

Andy Lowe -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 6:18:14 AM)

Looks like it may come down to the run game today eh?

Gonna be a tough day to chuck the ball around

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 7:46:34 AM)

It's always a tough day for us to chuck it around [&:]

Bradley H -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 9:25:56 AM)

Not gonna lie, that Gopher performance last week was one of the best I have ever seen in 45 years of watching Gopher football. I just hope they don't fall on their faces today and put on a good performance. Leidner almost looked like a quarterback last week.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 9:30:27 AM)

Not sure the cold weather will help all that much in slowing down OSU passing attack.

Remember, the field now has heating coils thanks to the Vikings.

Unless it is windy up there today. Anyone know the forecast or walk out on the porch?

13 here this morning but no wind and doesn't feel cold. Going to go split wood for a bit.

Kids are kids. I can only imagine there is going to be a natural letdown for Ohio State after beating Michigan State. I expect it to be a competitive game.

Being a lifelong Gopher fan I expect a humiliating loss. It comes with 45 years of experience.

Anybody know the last time the Gophers beat a top-10 team?

Corleone -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:05:08 AM)

Ski U Mah!

Corleone -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:07:20 AM)

Not a fan of the gold-on-gold

Agreed. I love the Maroon.

Ouch

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:18:28 AM)

Holy freaking SHIT. 87 yards we had guys alongside him the whole time.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:20:14 AM)

A QB should not be able to outrun everyone on the field for 86 yards. Our defensive backs were running in quicksand.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:22:26 AM)

Barrett is close to being the best offensive player in college football. So explosive.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:22:45 AM)

The heating coils only keep the field unfrozen and soft. It doesn't keep the players' hands warm or anything.

I have a feeling it's going to be a bad football day for me.
I see my 2 favorites getting beat by Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Terrible Defense on that play. The LB took himself out of the play and we still should have tackled him before the gain got huge.

That may be true, but he's on a roll and Michigan State couldn't begin to limit him either. This guy is a flat out stud.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:37:08 AM)

What is wrong with these guys? Two meltdown plays.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:37:43 AM)

Burned for the big play twice now. Come on guys, we need to see that "fight back" right now!

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/15/2014 11:38:08 AM)

Should have been holding on #76 for OSU.
