Who was funniest? We'll let Tim decide this time.

Oh definitely David. Even though twinsfan's premature ejaculation and Miles' erectile dysfunction medication riffs off of the original post were very good, David was first and his use of visual aids was exquisite.

Or a hooker.

Tim wins!

Not really.

Definitely not mine. I posted a follow to a follow up, which falls victim to the laws of diminishing comedic returns.

Nothing like rewarding mediocrity with a 5 win year

Bonuses for "getting to a bowl" [&o]

I'd take it. [&:]

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/13/2015 8:57:22 PM)

It's official. Seth Green flips hit commitment to the Gophers.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Football (12/13/2015 10:50:36 PM)

And Antoine Winfield Jr. is going to be a Gopher. Cool!

I don't know anything about him, but if he tackles at all like his dad, that is awesome.

Article in the Strib said he ran a 4.27 40, so he is real burner. Nice to have speed on the back end that's for sure.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 9:55:43 AM)

Couple good pickups.
Good to hear.
Let's hope they get the chance to show what they can do.

I wish I knew there was a chance he's be a Gopher. I would have kept an eye on him and given some (most likely crappy) scouting report.

He's down here in Allen which is right next to where I live. I had no idea until the Strib article today. I didn't care when he was committed to Oregon.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 10:08:53 AM)

BTW- you guys know how big hockey is up there. Down here Allen build a new HS football stadium a couple years ago. It cost 60 million [:-]

The funny thing is that they couldn't even play in it. It failed inspection and they had to sink another 10 million in "repairs" to get it done right. So 70 million for a HS football stadium. Unreal.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 12:14:49 PM)

Never hurts having big-name fathers in the program.
They have those things that scare Minnesotans, but give some of us hope .... EXPECTATIONS

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 2:03:22 PM)

I saw this in the Strib article on Claeys's recruiting:

“It’s obvious that Tracy Claeys is looking, in general, for a different type of player than the program was under Jerry Kill,” said Josh Helmholdt, Midwest recruiting analyst for Rivals.com. “I didn’t see that coming because they were part of the same staff for so long.

I wish he would have elaborated on that point. I know Claeys added a couple of massive JUCO OG who are projected to start next year. Kill has never been big on recruiting JUCO's. He did it occasionally, but not often. Claeys is going contrary to Kill in several areas. He opened the playbook right away on offense and started passing more, especially on 1st down. He fired Limegrover and the QB coach even though Skip had been with Kill as long as Claeys had. He gave the odd reason of wanting to consolidate the play calling. It seemed more like there was a distinct difference in philosophy and he was just being kind to a long time colleague in the press. I have read other things in the past that kind of hinted that despite their long term association on the same coaching staff, Claeys and Limegrover didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things. Now we hear this cryptic comment from a Rivals analyst about a difference in recruiting philosophy. Personally I am glad that Claeys looks determined to be his own man and not Jerry Kill 2.0. 1. Trying to be your predecessor never works and 2. He is making changes in the part of the game that was frustrating most of us.

It also sounds like Green is better than the QB from Michigan who decommitted. He has the added benefit of being able to enroll in January and participate in spring practices.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 2:11:29 PM)

I didn't want to say it originally, but I've always gotten the feeling Claeys "gets" what we need, more than Jerry did.
Think Jeff had said that too.
Love the JuCo route. Those kids have had to prove themselves somewhere, and D1obviously has been their dream.
Athletes, man. Athletes. Get as many as possible.
And like Sweens alluded to, the last couple games we seemed to be making MUCH better offensive decisions.

But can they coach them?

Especially on game day?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 2:21:38 PM)

That's the question we will all be asking ....

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 2:29:41 PM)

He did a good job on the sidelines 2 years ago when Kill was out. Some players even commented that they liked his demeanor on the sidelines better than Kill's. He had that clock f*** up against Michigan, but a lot of that could be attributed to the discontinuity in what he, Limegrover and Zebrowski. Like I said, the offense clearly improved with the change in philosophy and I think some of the logistical stuff will smooth out with Claeys having bowl practices, spring practices and training camp to fill out his staff and implement his philosophy. I'm not predicting success. I'm just saying that I am a little more encouraged than I was when the hire was first made.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 2:37:17 PM)

Will we ever see Jeff Jones lug a FB for us? [:D]

Just hope we start seeing prospects succeed here, in positions we recruit them for ...

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 2:43:28 PM)

In your boat Sweens.
I'm somewhat encouraged, esp if he makes some clean breaks in a couple philosophies.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 3:26:53 PM)

Is Lime going to be on hand for the bowl? I hope not. Get a chance to see this newer direction.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 3:36:26 PM)

No. Limegrover and Zobrowski are GONE. The TE coach will assume OC duties for the bowl game.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/14/2015 6:38:27 PM)

No, Norv Turner isn't allowed to call plays.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (12/16/2015 3:58:00 PM)

Jeff Jones, the Gophers’ most highly touted recruit of the past decade, is transferring to Iowa Western Community College after falling behind academically this semester, coach Tracy Claeys told the Star Tribune on Wednesday.
