Did find in interesting tho …
First time a B10 matchup of undefeated teams has happened this late in the year ….. and doesn't involve Michigan or Ohio State. [:D]

When does the talespin start?

You just going to troll every non-Vikings thread?

Some people!

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Football (10/28/2019 8:03:17 AM)

I was most impressed with how the offense controlled the game....can't score if you don't get the ball.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (10/28/2019 1:14:51 PM)

Did anyone else like the fierce gopher they put up on the scoreboard when Maryland was kicking its field goal? The ESPN announcers got a kick out of it.

Dumb and juvenile.

Is no way to go thru life, son.

I got a chuckle out of it. Knowing Matt's reaction makes me like it even more.

STOOOOOOPID off weeks. [X(]

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Football (11/1/2019 12:19:52 PM)

Go Gophers! Beat the Lions.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Football (11/1/2019 12:21:32 PM)

I'm guessing that Penn State will be around 10-14 point betting favorites even with our undefeated status and at our home.

Right now it's 6 and a half. No way it goes over 10.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (11/3/2019 8:08:18 PM)

Fleck now apparently a "candidate" at Florida State

wow

Having a good year, but it's early IMO to think he's coaching at that level. Just getting ready for the hard part of this schedule

Win out, then, oh yeah [;)]

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (11/3/2019 10:13:42 PM)

If we beat Penn State we better back up the Brinks truck to keep him.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/4/2019 10:11:45 AM)

Biggest game this late in the season since ……..
Going to have to think about this one.
Anyone?

In my memory, it would be 1967 when we pulled off an upset win against Purdue to secure a share of the Big Ten title. Before that would probably be the 1963 Rose Bowl.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/4/2019 10:29:13 AM)

Was wondering how far we'd have to go
I think earlier we were talking about that big Michigan comeback at the Dome in something like 2006 … but that was earlier and we were faking it that year anyway.
We find out a LOT this Saturday
Because Penn State won't underestimate us or take the day off.
Going to take everything we have and then some. We'll have to earn this one.

This is where we will find out if the U has really embraced the concept that a high profile sports program is an asset. The new president will have to step up with the money to keep a coach who will have where others have failed for 50 years.

It will also show where Fleck falls on the full of shit scale. He said on day 1 that he did not view Minnesota as a stepping stone to a royalty program. He was more interested in building his own legacy than inheriting somebody else's. If we step up with the financial commitment and he goes elsewhere, then we will know he was full of shit.

Didn’t Lou Holtz say basically the same thing?

They all say that. Then the big boys call and they’re gone.

Word is that Fleck is about to sign a contract extension.

Really. Wow that is indicative of the bettors thinking we actually have a chance to win this game. I'm very surprised.

Both fish wraps are reporting that he is close to signing a deal that will pay him in the upper tier of Big Ten coaches.

Its getting out
He's doing things right so far
Taken poorly run programs and turned them around.
Now …. work on taking the next step, then ….. longevity and sustainability
Would be nice to settle in for awhile to something you can count on, around here.
We ain't there yet. But it's in sight.

The Football program is so important to the university---they get Fleck locked up and it helps Hockey and BBall. All sports recruit kids by bringing them to football games and seeing the crowd. I would bring Suggs and Dawson to this Saturday's Football game....

Gophers and P.J. Fleck agree to a seven-year contract extension
The Gophers are off to their first 8-0 start since 1941.
By Megan Ryan Star Tribune NOVEMBER 5, 2019 — 1:55PM
For the third consecutive fall, Gophers coach P.J. Fleck is getting a new contract.

The Gophers announced Tuesday that Fleck has agreed to a new seven-year contract extension, pending Regents approval, a deal that would keep the coach under contract through 2026.

Fleck has the Gophers at 8-0 for the first time since 1941 and the No. 13 national ranking, heading into Saturday’s game against No. 5 Penn State at TCF Bank Stadium.

The coach, in his third season, signed an $18 million contract for five years in 2016. He garnered a one-year extension in November 2017 and another in December 2018 to keep him with the Gophers through 2023 for a total of $25.5 million.

Fleck’s current $3.6 million salary for this season ranks 37th among all 130 FBS coaches and 11th among the 14 coaches in the Big Ten, according to USA Today.

Fleck has been a head coach for seven years, taking Western Michigan from 1-11 in 2013 to 13-1 in 2016. In three seasons at Minnesota, he has taken the program from 5-7 to 7-6 to 8-0 in 2019.

The Gophers’ most recent victory was Fleck’s 50th, making him at 38 the second-youngest active FBS coach to reach that milestone. He is a hot commodity on the coaching market, especially with jobs already opening up. For instance, Florida State inquired about Fleck after firing Willie Taggart on Sunday, a source told the Star Tribune.
