If we win out then lose to oSU where do we finish in the polls? Do we play in the Rose Bowl and is that still the best Bowl we can get if not in the CFP?

Zero reason for anyone in MN to think beating Iowa is a given
We don’t win there
They can salvage their season with a win over us
Iowa’s only losses are to ranked teams
I can’t fathom any fan of this program slighting Iowa. Or Wiscy. Or hell even NW yet.
Let’s get it done before we assume anything.

I don't think beating Iowa is a given, but it's what I expect. Here we go again should be put in the past.

I don't think it's in the "put it in the past" category. This is new territory to this program and these are kids are in this rarified atmosphere for the first time. It's not a legacy thing, these are legitimate pitfalls for any team in this position for the first time.

Bingo.
This isn’t about any year
It’s about now.
Iowa’s good enough to ruin our little story.

Glen Mason is already saying put it the bank, the Gophers are going to the Rose Bowl. The Gophers don't even need to go undefeated. They just to win the West and if they lose OSU in the championship, they will go to the Rose Bowl, assuming Ohio goes to the CFP. Win out and beat Ohio State, you can make a legitimate case for the CFP. But, this is all cart before the horse. Iowa is the only thing that matters right now.

Fleck says Put it in the Past. I'm going with him. The best coached teams don't have the "here we go again" thinking. Why not us be one of them.

We're good enough to ruin their story and if Floyd is residing in Iowa it's time for a change of venue.

My favorite quote from Fleck (even if it was quite corny) is that we are 1-0 against Penn State this year.....
Time to be 1-0 against Iowa.

Alumni and former players are really on board....haven't hear much from Eric Decker but he is all in this year as an example.

Yeah, I really don't think is what Fleck was talking about, since this situation is not part of the 50 year legacy he wants us to let go of.

I don't see how it would be possible to keep us out of the CFP if we win out then beat oSU. That would be three more ranked wins including one against the #1 team in the country assuming they win out. 13-0 with wins against #1 and #5. I know we are just Minnesota, but that should not be possible to keep us out. Now we still have 3 losable games to take care of before this mythical win against oSU, but why not dream big?

Penn State’s Sean Clifford took aim at Gophers’ boat in profanity-laced pep talk

By ANDY GREDER | agreder@pioneerpress.com | Pioneer Press
PUBLISHED: November 10, 2019 at 12:53 pm | UPDATED: November 10, 2019 at 8:05 pm

Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford made it clear how he feels about the Gophers, their mantra and the source of TCF Bank Stadium’s sold-out crowd before the Nittany Lions’ loss on Saturday.

A short snippet of a profanity-laced speech before pregame warmups, posted by Barstool Sports, Clifford told teammates, “(Expletive) their (expletive) boat” — a reference to the motivational phrase “Row the Boat” that coach P.J. Fleck brought to Minnesota when he was hired in January 2017.

“One, we’re the (expletive) show; everybody comes to see us, not for them,” Clifford is shown saying in the visitors’ tunnel before throwing three interceptions in a 31-26 loss.

Besides a pocket of blue and white in one corner of the stadium, a sea of maroon-clad fans was clearly present to see the then No. 17 Minnesota upset the fourth-ranked Nittany Lions, 31-26.

Clifford completed 23 of 43 passes for 340 yards, with one touchdown and three picks inside the Gophers’ red zone. Some Gophers players posted reactions to the video of Clifford.

“Interesting approach …” Minnesota defensive tackle Micah Dew-Treadway tweeted after the win.

“Clown,” U cornerback Coney Durr replied with an emoji of, yes, a clown face. And yes, he tagged it with Clifford’s Twitter handle.

I like that quote also. Decker was VERY GOOD. 6'5" or so IIRC fast as hell and great hands. I don't think our current WRs are any better than him.

Don't be so sure....Bateman and Johnson will play in the next level. They don't have his height but they have a little more speed and quickness.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2019 10:42:53 AM)

Glen Mason always loves to point out that Eric Decker was a 1 star recruit when he came to the Gophers.

Johnson is a phenomenal athlete, runs great routes has a great football IQ, is a stud, a leader and a winner. Not a doubt in my mind he will be on an NFL roster next year.

I'm not sure. Notice I said it's what I think. Not what I know or what I'm certain of.

I think he started out baseball and the scholarship switched to football his senior year when he quit baseball. He was seen more as potential pro baseball player than pro football player. It underscores Mason's point about star ratings. You don't truly know what you have until you get the kid in here.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2019 10:48:43 AM)

He's also cut down on those damn drops that would kill mo earlier in his career. Has turned in to a really great WR.

Or he could be the next Dillon Mitchell. He has the same drops problem. However, I agree with you. I think Decker played well enough in the NFL to be considered a star at his peak. A fringe level star, but star none the less. Will Johnson or Bateman reach that level? Maybe.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2019 10:49:59 AM)

And, RE, a letdown at Iowa.

I don't fear that we'll be ready. I'm not saying we'll walk in there and just whoop em'. As SMF and Tim pointed out, can be a house of horrors. I just have a lot of trust in Fleck and his staff. I have no doubt we'll be ready to play.

I still think a lot of that had to do with never playing receiver until he was a freshman here and playing right away as a freshman. He was learning on the job. I think reducing the drops was that last step.

The trend I have noticed in his three short years here is that Fleck's teams get noticeably better as the season goes on. These kids really seemed to have responded to his mantra of "change you best". These kids clear a bar and can't wait to set the next one higher.

IIRC he had some drops early this year for sure. Has he been pretty much clean in the Big?

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2019 11:02:12 AM)

The fun thing is that Fleck isn't really forcing the pass....he lets the defense pick their poison. We could light teams up with Bateman, Johnson, Autumn-Bell and the TE....but we want to control the ball more than anything and help our defense. Penn State wanted to stop the run on Saturday and couldn't contain our 2 best WR while doing that.
