Preliminary #Gophers-PSU Twin Cities TV ratings: 19.5 with a 58 share, with a peak of 24.1 and a 64 share as the game ended. 1 ratings point = around 17,500 households. Just ridiculously high numbers. Heck, another 2ish ratings points were at the game. Interest is big-time.

It's actually a pretty weird feeling as a fan for my whole life (all 16 years )[;)]

I'm not nervous about Iowa and being 7. Do I believe we are the 7th best team in the country? No. But I also don't think Fleck will let this get to our heads. We have a lot of MO going on that I think he can harness. The past 20 years of Gopher FB, with a win like this, would mean almost certain disaster for the rest of the year.

I don't have that feeling right now for some reason. It will probably bite me in the ass but I have a calm about this program for the first time in my life.

I feel we are legit and will beat Iowa and NW setting up a B10 Champ against OSU. In fact, I'm calling the shot.

I'm with you. In fact, I think there is a strong possibility that we are undefeated going into the B10 Champ. We won't win that without a miracle and honestly would rather stay out of the CFP and go play in the Rose Bowl this year.

I do believe that we could very well be a top 7 team in the country. After the top 2 or 3, I think there is a fair amount of parity. We beat a legit top 5 team with our best defensive player still on the sidelines. They next test is to stay in that tier. The Gophers need to show that they will avoid that let down after a big win because Iowa at home can be a landmine for the Gophers if they have a let down. The Gophers SHOULD be good enough to win these next 3 games, but WILL they play good enough to win these next 3 games?

Yes, Row the Boat dammit. [:D]

Bingo.
This isn’t about any year
It’s about now.
Iowa’s good enough to ruin our little story.

Could they, sure. Will they, NFW. Get on board buddy. Only positive thoughts here. [:D]

Why would you rather play in the Rose Bowl than take a shot at the National Title?

Why, a couple of reasons.

#1. Because I want this season to end with a win. I'm all in on the Kool-Aid right now but my Kool-Aid isn't strong enough to make me think we could win the National Championship. We aren't ready to beat OSU or the best of the SEC yet, IMHO, but I'll take on a PAC 12 team. Winning the Rose Bowl would be awesome. Getting crushed in a CFP game would NOT be awesome.

#2. I've wanted to see the Gophers in the Rose Bowl my entire life.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2019 12:18:46 PM)

OK, we're starting to stack up a lot of carts in front of the horse now, but on a hypothetical level, the Gophers playing in a CFP bowl game is better than being in the Rose Bowl this year.

1. It means the Gophers won the Big Ten title. They have the longest current streak of not winning the Big Ten and it's not even close.

2. It means the Gophers went from being unranked to one if the top 4 teams in the nation.

3. The first 2 points make the 3rd point of it being a bigger tool in recruiting.

Pete M. -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2019 1:13:33 PM)

Here's what I love about what PJ has done. He got some grief for some of the stuff he's preached since he came here: "Attend class...every class." "Sit in the front two rows of class and wear a collared shirt--and we'll check up on you." "Be elite athletically, academically, socially, and spiritually." "Commit to something bigger than yourself." "Serve and give in the community." Then he goes out and starts randomly drug testing his players, beyond what his league requires; has crazy stuff like teaching his players how to relate to women, how to have date nights, how to do laundry; teaches them random history lessons on Sundays, etc. etc.

And now look. He has (mostly) 3-star athletes who are beating 4- and 5-star talent by being completely disciplined (virtually no penalties), playing smart and focused within a defined offensive and defensive scheme, never giving up on a game or an opportunity, handling business against B1G pushovers, and being relentless under pressure in the game's biggest moments.

Is there a coincidence between the first paragraph above and the second paragraph? Could it be that some of the stuff people mocked has all the while been developing high-character, selfless kids that respond better to adversity and high-pressure situations than less-disciplined, more self-focused (even though more talented) teams? Certainly seems that way to me. And then when I see Minnesota football having its highest GPA ever, completely invested in local hospitals/cancer centers, and having virtually no disciplinary issues after the Claeys fiasco? Yeah, maybe PJ is doing something right WAY beyond football.

It's a moot point because IMHO we aren't beating OSU, which I've stated multiple times. If we beat them, by some miracle, we probably will be in the CFP but I'm sure we'll get our backsides handed to us. I'd rather have a Rose Bowl win. It's far more realistic of a goal.

Here is the key to me Pete; his players are buying into it with every last dollar. Listen to them in interviews. The Fleckisms are rolling right off their toungues ...

“There have been a lot of things we haven’t done in a while, so we are going to keep that same mentality,” Coughlin said. “Trust me when I tell you we are going to practice this week harder than we’ve ever practiced because we’ve got our eyes fixed on the goal, which is going 1-0 in the Iowa season, and we are going to take care of business.”

The "change your best" mantra seems to be a big one with them, which is great. He's convinced these kids that rather than let the world them how good they can be, they tell world how good they can be. Like I said, they are buying in 100%.

Penn State’s Sean Clifford took aim at Gophers’ boat in profanity-laced pep talk

By ANDY GREDER | agreder@pioneerpress.com | Pioneer Press
PUBLISHED: November 10, 2019 at 12:53 pm | UPDATED: November 10, 2019 at 8:05 pm

Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford made it clear how he feels about the Gophers, their mantra and the source of TCF Bank Stadium’s sold-out crowd before the Nittany Lions’ loss on Saturday.

A short snippet of a profanity-laced speech before pregame warmups, posted by Barstool Sports, Clifford told teammates, “(Expletive) their (expletive) boat” — a reference to the motivational phrase “Row the Boat” that coach P.J. Fleck brought to Minnesota when he was hired in January 2017.

“One, we’re the (expletive) show; everybody comes to see us, not for them,” Clifford is shown saying in the visitors’ tunnel before throwing three interceptions in a 31-26 loss.

Besides a pocket of blue and white in one corner of the stadium, a sea of maroon-clad fans was clearly present to see the then No. 17 Minnesota upset the fourth-ranked Nittany Lions, 31-26.

Clifford completed 23 of 43 passes for 340 yards, with one touchdown and three picks inside the Gophers’ red zone. Some Gophers players posted reactions to the video of Clifford.

“Interesting approach …” Minnesota defensive tackle Micah Dew-Treadway tweeted after the win.

“Clown,” U cornerback Coney Durr replied with an emoji of, yes, a clown face. And yes, he tagged it with Clifford’s Twitter handle.

Kinda liked his game.
Until he crappie flopped at the end then wanted to be the hero boy out of the tent
Problem is when you don’t finish the Cinderella story, clown.
Love that a couple of our guys gave it back to him.

I had to go back and check if we won the natty championship while I was sleeping
We’re good
We’re rolling
Stop telling a guy like me how to be a fan of Gopher football, please
I’ve seen it all. Up close
No ones loving this more than me
No ones bought in more than me
But to think we’re suddenly Alabama looks really weird on some of you.
Relax and enjoy this UNPRECEDENTED success.
There are still young men in this team capable of disappointing us tomorrow
Off the box.
Carry on.

If you want more PJ love fest go to Pat McAfees show last week before the PSU game
Great stuff.
The guys an energizer bunny all right.
And he’s piling up lots of great respect.
Good on him
Good for us.

The best part of this whole thing is what guys like Brooks, Green, Smith, Winfield, Couglin, Johnson have been thru just in their short time here. Green and Winfield were dragged thru the mud on the Sexual Assault fiasco and later found innocent. Brooks, Smith, and Winfield have fought thru injuries. 3 coaches in 5 years.

Damn straight we have some leaders on this team. We will see how far they can go but Penn State is a stacked and talented team along all lines and we beat them. Penn State vs Ohio State will tell us a ton. MN vs Iowa will also.

Lovie Smith has Illinois making waves

That was the U last year

And this year?
MN 40
Illinois 17

Wish one of the lopsided wins was vs Michigan just to stick it to Jim

I read a rumor that Maryland turned in the Ohio State DE

Probably why OSU went onside kick and put 73 on them

Winfield is a Redshirt Sophomore....

Freshman in 2016. Played 4 games in 2017 and 2018 and received hardship for both so is eligible to play this year and another 2 years.
