Ya.  But ideally (to me at least) we get a new HC and Norv as OC.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/2/2008 9:32:56 AM)

Chances are real slim that Bard gets fired at this point

Trekgeekscott -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/2/2008 10:51:49 AM)

There is still a chance, if we collapse down the stretch here...but there could be as many as 13 new Head Coaches next season (according to Peter King, If all the coaches I think could go, go, it could be 15)  if that were the case, which means some teams aren't going to get a good replacement coach. It also increases the liklihood of Leslie Frazier getting an offer to HC a club.  If we win the Division (as sucky as the other teams in our division are right now, that could just be a foregone conclusion), then it is likely KA sticks around for another year.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/2/2008 11:06:50 AM)

Let's think about that coaching carousel.

Here are teams I think may end up with new coaches next year.

1.  Seattle -  already named Jim Mora Jr to replace Holmgren
2.  Indianapolis - already have their replacement named
3.  Dallas - Jerry Jones is short of patience and probably will go with Garrett to keep other teams from snatching him up.
4.  Cincinnati - Marvin Lewis should be our next DC when Frazier is gone!
5.  Cleveland - Romeo is burning
6.  Detroit - If you can't even win ONE game, you don't deserve another season as HC, EVEN IF Matt Millen was the real reason the team truly sucked
7.  KC - One that may survive is Herm Edwards...team is young, QB is a mess, He may get another chance.
8.  Oakland - When isn't Oakland looking for a new HC?
9.  Buffalo - This collapse is bad news for Jauron.
10. SD - How does a team go from nearly making it to the Superbowl to below .500 in one year?  Norv Turner...that's how!
11. St. Louis - Is there any doubt there will be a new HC next season?
12. SF - Singletary might get the benefit of the doubt here...and I think he should.  But it's hard to shed an 'interim' label.
13. Jacksonville - This team had SB expectations this year (probably overreaching since they had no WRs), so Del Rio not making the playoffs is in jeopardy
14.  Minnesota - Like I said earlier...not very likely anymore.  but if the Vikes collapse...

OK.  I shouldn't have said 15.

But it is interesting that every single West Coast team COULD have a new HC next season.

Jim Frenette -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/2/2008 11:37:01 AM)

Seattle -  already named Jim Mora Jr to replace Holmgren

I remember the last time he was a lame duck coach, his last team sucked then also. It just doesn't work out

I doubt he takes it though.  It sure sounds like he's heading for the UW job.  And I don't blame him.  College is a cakewalk compared to the NFL as a coach.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/2/2008 11:41:17 AM)

Great rundown, Scott.  The one thing that makes me happy is that I think our situation is just as good as anyone's on that list.

The only 2 jobs that give us a real run for our money are Indy and SD.

I wish our QB was such a mess.

Last 6 games: 117/193 (61%), 1347 yards (223 per), 11 TDs, 4 INTs. 92 Rating.

Plax·ci·dent   /[plax-si-duh nt] noun

1. an undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally from extreme stupidity and results in the loss of 35 million dollars; casualty; mishap: gunshot accidents.

marty -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/3/2008 11:45:59 AM)

Pete

Law, Richardson, Favre, Faneca, Franks and Woody.

I didn't know you were going to include Favre as a Pro Bowl addition when arguing how little effect Favre has had in making the Jets better.

Law was just added recently, and has done very little.  Franks did very little and is out on IR.  Richardson has had a few nice blocks, but you probably won't see him in the Pro Bowl this year.  Faneca and Woody ARE both playing well after struggling a bit early in the year.

Other teams have added some good players through FA, but still have poor records.  The Jets are on top of their division, went on the road to beat New England and the undefeated Titans.  The Jets only won 4 games last year.

The Packers, almost the identical team that went 13-3 last year, are now 5-7.  The one big difference: they don't have Brett Favre pulling out the close games.

Favre definitely deserves MVP consideration, and I never said MORESO than Peterson.  I also agree that Peterson should be a possible MVP consideration, but it's possible that Guts Frerotte gets more votes than him.  I think it would help Peterson if his backup totally sucked, but Chester Taylor is a very good player.

It's probably a moot point anyway as the MVP is probably coming from either NY Giants or Tennessee.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/3/2008 11:57:52 AM)

Possible Gus gets more MVP votes than Peterson?

Are you serious?

Duane Sampson -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/3/2008 1:26:34 PM)

Too bad we don't live near the San Diego Library:

Probably not, but the QB IS viewed as the more important position on the field, it is the MOST important position.

I'm wondering if the Vikes won't have to win 11 games for Peterson to really be considered for MVP.  Wouldn't the voting lean towards someone on the Giants and Titans because of their records.

Jim Frenette -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/4/2008 11:20:29 AM)

The players association has gotten involved and hope to get it to Judge David Doty's court

One of my good friends from high school's name was David Doty.

Marty, I will bet you one milbilliongadzillion dollars that Gus does not receive more MVP votes than AD this year, any other year, or any year in any alternate spacetime continium in the history of everything.

Agreed.  There's just no way in hell that happens.

I honestly think the MVP race right now should be a 2-man race.  Between AD and Haynesworth.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/5/2008 9:16:51 AM)

Crazy.  My favorite line is the last one:

CHARLES ROGERS, IN JAIL Posted by Mike Florio on December 5, 2008, 8:05 a.m. EST It’s been a bad week for former Lions players with the last name “Rogers.”  Former defensive end Reggie Rogers has been arrested again for DUI, continuing a string that dates back to the 1987 triple vehicular homicide for which he spent nearly half the time in the hoosegow that Mike Vick is doing.
And now it’s Charles Rogers’ turn.
Per the Detroit Free Press, Rogers has been jailed since Wednesday, on $100,000 bond.
The problem arises from a September 12 arrest, arising from a domestic incident.  Charged with assault and battery, he copped a plea to a trespassing count, and received probation.
But then Rogers violated probation by testing positve for narcotics and “taking unauthorized leave from partial confinement” (whatever that means).
Rogers had been listed as a fugitive on the Oakland County, Michigan web site.
For the past couple of years, the former Lions wideout (inexplicably, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 draft) has been trying from time to time to get back into the game.
The best way to make that happen, however, is not to be behind bars.
Then again, there’s that whole “When in Rome” angle to consider.  (Or, as the case may be, “When in Cincinnati.”)

I know, it's the wrong thread, but speaking of Rogers, what a sad story about Rodney Rogers.

Wow, I had no idea until I just read this post, so I googled it.

Truly sad.  My thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/8/2008 11:02:53 AM)

I guess Roddy White and Anquan Boldin are the best 2 WR's in football, since it's all about production.

White leads in yards, and Boldin leads in TD's.

Duane Sampson -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/8/2008 11:08:29 AM)

Roddy White is really helping the kid. He makes some great catches.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/8/2008 12:10:21 PM)

Jerry Jones is an idiot:

Barber makes that Dallas team go.

The annual "Tony Romo Slide" has begun again.
Really struggles the last couple months of the season.
The 'Boys had that game yesterday in the bag (if he's as great as everyone tells me he is)

Easy E -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/8/2008 12:22:05 PM)

Rodney Rogers was one of the 5 best college players I ever saw, and I wanted the Wolves to draft him so badly.

On the good side, we got Isiah, Junior, JR, black belt Rider...[>:]
