The 2008 RB draft was one of the deepest I can remember.  There are at least 10 quality RB's in the NFL from that draft.  Most of them already made a significant impact.

It's probably because Favre is so awesome that the entire free world is so focused on his awesominity and spectacular awesomenessness that everyone is totally and breathtakenly awed by his absolute awesomation that no one notices his running back sneaking through for yardage.

I know I'm awesomated at his awesombility to awesomely awe me......

member when you posted this in sarcasm yesterday?

yes

that was awesome....

My best Cris Farley tribute.

The Farley/Paul McCartney "interview" is one of the greatest things ever recorded.
Couple minutes that make you cry/laugh/think. It was poignant ( and I never use that word)
Miss that dude.

14. Miami (9-5). Last three weeks: 16-12 over the Rams (now 2-12), 16-3 over the Bills (now 6-8) , 14-9 over the 49ers (now 5-9). Just survive, baby.

Chad Pennington is who we thought he was

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/15/2008 10:25:59 AM)

SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED ON THE SPOT:

Dick Jauron, coach, Buffalo, and Turk Schonert, offensive coordinator, Buffalo. Not quite a Miracle of the Meadowlands redux, but a dunderheaded call late in the fourth quarter probably cost the Bills a stunning victory and led to a loss that will jeopardize the jobs of the entire coaching staff.
Buffalo was protecting a 27-24 lead with 2:06 left in the fourth quarter. The Jets had two timeouts left. The Bills had run the ball well all day, and their last four carries had gone for four, five, three and five yards. On 2nd-and-5, Jauron called for J.P. Losman to roll right and look for fullback Corey McIntyre, and if that wasn't there, just run. Jauron figured that the even if McIntyre wasn't open, Losman could either run or throw it away, and because the clock would stop at the two-minute warning, a run play wasn't essential. Schonert agreed.
What they didn't count on was the blitz of backside safety Abram Elam, who leaped on Losman's shoulder and stripped the ball, allowing Shaun Ellis to recover and stumble in for the winning touchdown.
Here's the problem this creates: Owner Ralph Wilson doesn't want to change coaching staffs again. He doesn't want to hire another coach and his SEVENTH offensive coordinator of the decade. But if the Bills fall at Denver and at home to New England in the next two weeks, that would mean they'd finish the year losing nine of 10. Wilson is 90. He is impatient. You connect the dots.

I read an interesting stat yesterday while watching SF/MIA:

Miami has 10 turnovers for the season, and have not turned it over more than once in any game so far this season (an NFL record)!

For the season, Pennington has 6 INTs and no fumbles lost.  His 95.1 QBR currently ranks 4th among NFL QBs.

MIA is winning with a balanced, mistake free offense (ranked 10th in passing, 12th in rushing) and with a solid defense (currently ranked 8th in PA).

You have to score more points to beat quality teams.

Chad is the same as he was in NY - good QB ratings but not enough points produced to be a champion.

Yeah, he was brilliant in what he did.

Chad has helped lead a 1-15 team in '07 to a 9-5 record with hopes of a division title.  I don't think anybody is talking championship with them yet, but you've still got to give them credit for a turnaround of historic proportions IMO.

I give him PARTIAL credit.

You can't discount a mountain of changes on that team from Parcels on down.

The Dolphins offense improved from 26th in scoring points to 23rd.

On defense they went from 30th in points given up per game to 9th.

I think that is a bigger reason for their improvement.

Agreed.  Better QB play is just one component of their overall improved play and people forget that MIA lost 6 games by 3-points last season before they finally beat BAL in week 15 - so they probably weren't as bad as their 1-15 record might seem to indicate.

My son is engaged to marry a Farley.   Her mom is/was Chris Farley's cousin.

Very cool Lynn
If I remember right, pretty down-to-earth family, from around Chicago I thought?
Or maybe Wisconsin.
Just remember seeing a lot of "happy big people" in his Bio.
Best of luck to them/you.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/15/2008 3:03:40 PM)

She happily didn't inherit the Farley genetic make-up - - - she's a size 2!   She's 5'0" and the tiniest little thing you've ever met.   But she's got the down-to-earth thing down.

What a dumb call to go wildcat when your QB has driven the team down the field 3 times

THAT is why Favre is there.  Maybe it's OVER-reaction as Favre can take TOO many chances.

All this stuff about the Jets supporting cast being so great just to give Favre NO credit.  I don't think the Jets' 2ndary is very good AT ALL, and they could well be 1-12 if they still had Pennington.

I just ran into a Packer fan today who told me he believed with all sincerity that the Packers would be UNDEFEATED if they still had Favre.  I think that IS possible.  Favre was used to the players, they had all the guys coming back from last year plus another outstanding WR in Jordy Nelson.  Things MIGHT have played out VERY differently with Favre than with Rodgers, and they COULD have gotten on a roll.

The Packers MIGHT have gotten off to more early leads, instead of playing from behind so often.  Then, the defense that 3 weeks ago was on pace to be the highest scoring defense in the history of the NFL, MIGHT have really taken off scoring points.  Confidence may have built, and they MIGHT have pulled the upset on Dallas with Favre more focussed on beating Dallas because of his early career failures against them.  Favre might also have pulled out some games in the last minute, UNLIKE Rogers, and much like Favre did MANY times last year.

I was just running those scenarios as POSSIBILITIES.  In reality, I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle.  I do NOT think the Packers would be 5-9 had Favre stayed (like they are now with Rodgers), but I do NOT think they would be 14-0 either.  I think 8-6 or 9-5 would have been VERY likely, and you would NOT have seen the implosion that we witnessed from them this year.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/15/2008 9:06:35 PM)

Nope

Favre was quoted yesterday as saying he had nothing on his balls and perhaps his arm was done.

Doesn't sound like a guy who can lead a team to 16-0.

In fact, it would not surprise me if Jackson outplays him the rest of the year.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/15/2008 9:39:25 PM)

WFAN 66 NY

They had Phil Simms on and he was discussing it with Mike Francesca.  On their last offensive possession before the fumble Favre missed two open receivers.  As he headed off the field the coach came up to him and before coach could get on him Favre said that.

This is how Mike reported it.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/15/2008 10:26:40 PM)

Marty, just go make out with Favre already, man.

IMMENSE love for him is seriously the only way anyone can believe the things you're saying about him.

Again, they added FIVE other ProBOWLERS this year!  And you want us to discount that?  FIVE!

1-12 with Pennington?  Seriously?

I'm losing respect for all these coaches that think they have to follow a trend.  They should study the numbers a little more.  The wildcat has just as many negative results as it does positive.  Let me see, who do I want throwing the ball in the redzone, McNabb or DeSean Jackson.  Idiots.

I heard it replayed on Mike and Mike this morning.  Favre questioning his own arm strength.  At least he still has Mary as a fan.

Agreed.  Do something inventive, but you better damn well make sure it fits your personnel.

NFL coaches are a funny breed.  Huge egos, yet most of them would follow a blind sheep off a cliff.
