After going 0-fer-48 (since '61), 1 for 15 sounds really darn good to me right now.

Exactly what I was gettin at.
I don;t care squat about how/when/why "our guy" gets us a ring, just so he gets us one.
Rip Gruden if he DIDN'T win a title with that (handed over) team, not that he DID.

No one is "ripping him", just pointing out that he is not that good.

When he wasn't handed a top team he did nothing.

So it is not reasonable to expect that he could take a team like this one, that is not nearly as close as TB was when he took over, to the promised land.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 11:48:06 AM)

I still say Gruden would have won the Super Bowl with the Raiders if that team doesn't get burned by the tuck rule. That was a good window of Raider teams that Gruden had a big part in elevating. Then that was Gruden's team that he beat with Dungy's team in that SB. Gruden is a good a coach and I would take his play calling and coaching ability anyday of the week over Brad Childress.

How do you not review this in a Super Bowl game???  [sm=shrug.gif]

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 1:15:40 PM)

Well, it wasn't like it was an important play in a big game, or anything, Sammy. [&o]

We go thru 99% of the game reviewing EVERYTHING then you get there, and you don't stop play, take time, and get it right, or at least act like you looked?

I'm not blaming it for losing the game, but try to be consistent with the usage, please,
Kurt HAD to get room to wing that ball, and he didn't. Poor job by the O-line on 3 rushers, poor job by Kurt finding space to release.
I'd pay good money to see those Cards receivers have 2 or 3 shots at jump balls in the end zone.

Easy E -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 1:44:06 PM)

It wasn't Gruden that was ripped (first), it was Tony Dungy. I was simply defending Dungy. I used some harsh language for Chuckie to make the comparison.

Dungy is a better coach than Gruden. Grudne is better than anyone we've had in decades.

I was suprised they didn't review it, but I don't think they would have changed the call on the field, and I don't think it changed the outcome of the game.

Toby Stumbo -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 1:49:09 PM)

I was hoping they would review it and overturn it and then by some miracle a Super Bowl was won on a hail mary pass. [:D]

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 1:49:36 PM)

Someone here wrote that they DID review that play - but they certainly didn't go do any "normal" review. The next ball was snapped about a minute later. No way did anyone thoroughly review that play.

I'd be seriously ticked off if I was a Cardinal fan.

Toby Stumbo -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 1:51:22 PM)

It has become obvious that Larry Fitz is the best WR in the game today!

It was a fumble.  It doesn't matter if they would have reviewed it or not.  The call would have stood and the Steelers would have still won.  It wasn't even close.

Certainly one of the best.

Andre Johnson is sure up there too.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 1:54:17 PM)

Scott. Sorry - wasn't even close? His hand was coming forward with the ball in it. I'd say that makes it pretty close.

Indeed he is, I'd take either in a heart beat.

I assume you're talking about the last Cardinals play.  Where the ball is coming out BEFORE his arm goes forward.  Unlike the play earlier in the game where it was clear he was throwing a pass.  This time...he dropped it.

The ball only went forward because it was knocked forward by the defender
Kurt blew it not getting space to throw the ball.

He played a great game but he made some costly errors.

It was close enough to review, but I think pretty obvious that it was a fumble.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 3:16:01 PM)

And like Fargo mentioned.  If they DID review that play it was the fastest review ever.  It took about 20 seconds. [&o].   Yes, it was totally reviewable.

There is a distinct possibility that the booth was looking and the Steelers got on the field fast and snapped the ball before the Booth official could signal the field.  If they got the snap off before they whistle for a review...it can't be reviewed anymore.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 4:19:57 PM)

I would think in that instant they would take an official timeout to give them sufficient time.  It's not like it was a random play at 1/2 time in the 2nd game of the year.  It was the most important play in the biggest game of the year.  I'm with Lynn, I'd be livid if that were the Vikes.  I'm not saying it wasn't a fumble BTW.  It just seemed very odd that it was taken so lightly (seemingly).  It's like the NFL got scared about the penalty the boss talked about at 1/2 for going over the time limit.  [sm=scratch.gif]

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/2/2009 6:08:42 PM)

I don't think it was the most important play - that was the Holmes catch.  Let's not make that last play into more than it needs to be.

If Warner doesn't throw a pick 6 they win the game.

if they don't ignore Fitz for 3 quarters they win the game.

AZ has no one to blame but themselves.  AZ should have won the game

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:NFL News (2/3/2009 10:07:43 AM)

I'm not saying they don't have anyone to blame but themselves.  That is true.  I just know that if that were the Vikes I would have thrown my TV out the window in anger.  It should have been reviewed (wouldn't have been over turned IMO).  I don't buy the explanation that the NFL gave, "it was".  Too little time in between plays.

OK,  What's the point of reviewing it if you know it isn't going to be overturned anyway...would it make you feel better that is was reviewed?
