What amazes me, is that altho they have been horrible for so long, they haven't had an overall #1 pick since Billy Sims?  Can that be right?

Denver has said they don't want to pay the salary of a top pick. Detroit would be more likely to start with the #20 and add to it.

Goddamned drunk driving asshole kills someone and is at practice with no one saying one bad thing about him.

QB upsets guys like Jake for being whiny and it's front page newsplash for weeks on end. I don't give a damn if you hate Jake Cutler with a white hot passion, it's a screwed up dicotomy in our society that someone like Donte Stallworth is ignored by the media while bad boy Jake is front page news. That is screwed up and sick.

He didn't just run over someone, he ****ing ended their life because he couldn't keep off the ****ing road.

Teams with any Balls would have suspended a player (with or without pay, depending on the nits involved in the CBA), until the matter is resolved.

The coddling and "look the other way" attitude of franchises and Management needs to end.

Even though I am pretty damn liberal on most everything under the sun, the power that unions have to "protect" worthless dregs, who happen to join the "union" is one of the worst features of unions out there.

I understand the need to negotiate with employers to get fair and reasonable compensation, but the details that limit the type and kind of actions that management can take against obvious "screw ups" and  lazy freeloaders is appalling.

The NFL needs to get a "charged by the police, suspended without pay until resolved" clause in the NEXT CBA.

I bet the number and severity of incidents drops, dramatically.

I agree with everything you say and it is a sad commentary on the fact that these idiot athletes have de-sensitized people to their horrible actions off the field.  It's also sad that they have lowered expectations for them to the point where as long as they're not committing a felony most are satisfied. 

And if the Vikings were rumored to possibly have interest in acquiring a guy like Stallworth, you'd see hundreds more serious objections from me than the few concerns that I've laid out for Cutler.

Most people applauded getting Koren Robinson and Jared Allen. The difference between them is basically luck, unless you believe that Koren is a better drunk driver than Donte.

I'm not even saying throw Allen off the team. At some point you have to forgive people... but it's still screwed up, our society's reaction to it.

It's not even a "pro athlete" issue. Fact is, on some level, most Americans believe that a little drunk driving is simply a priveledge most people should have, and is certainly not that big a deal as long as no one gets hurt.

Allen has worked out so far

But I am also against holding athletes to a HIGHER standard than regular people in work.

Vick was given way too punishment

Nearly 20,000 people die each year in alcohol related auto accidents, but we have no zero tolerance policy for drinking and driving. We still have relatively minor penalties for those that get caught once or twice.

And when somebody famous or powerful gets caught, even after killing a person, they are free to carry on their business while their attorney negotiates the terms of their surrender. 

If you had to guess, how many times do you think Stallworth has driven a vehicle legally drunk?  You think he got caught the one and only time he did it?  He KILLED a human being.  He made the decision to drive his vehicle while impaired.  He should have been arrested on the spot, and if proven guilty, he should serve 25 years in prison.

And the NFL is full of shit.  Don't take that performance enhancer or we'll suspend your ass, even though it's perfectly fine for team trainers to shoot you full of painkillers before the game.  Now if you want to get pissed up and get behind the wheel and kill a man, don't worry about it.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that unions evolved in the same manner as our government itself.  What began as a noble, selfless call to service, turned into a lust for unchecked power and greed.

You're absolutely correct that Cutler is practically a saint when compared to the murderers, rapists and other various felons of the league.  However, you're the only one comparing them!  We are focusing on the football side of things and looking beyond the stats some of us have concerns about Cutler's ability to lead a winning team.  Because of these football-related concerns, I'm hesitant to break the bank to get him.

You may disagree with my opinion, but stop making up ludicrous, pointless exaggerations in an effort to support yours!

The point of how society and especially the media cover and freak out about certain things versus how they ignore, patronize and excuse others, is exactly one of the points I was making, and part of the reason our society allows and practically encourages drunk drivers.

Jay Cutler is just the most recent and timely. You could bring up countless examples in the past. Chad Johnson is a crazy person who sucks and should be ostracized, Leonard Little no one cares.

Lance Briggs gets toasted, drives drunk, wraps his car around a pole, lies, lies some more.. and gets rewarded with a new contract. And so it goes, with our screwed up society with misplaced values punishing some things... Congressional hearings on steriods, for instance.. while people get drunk and kill each other on the road because using a sober cab is too inconvenient... and people shrug.

Roger Clemens is viewed as a villian. Because... he used some steroids. Barry Bonds is run out of sports, because he injected himself with stuff that soccer moms use all the time. Meanwhile Marvin Harrison shoots someone.. oh well.

We're all sick, all of us.
