Still funny, but I think that is the guy who was injured by the mascot driving the golf cart.

Reading?  Who said he was READING?

He was WATCHING, about LIONS and assumed the REST of the animal kingdom was the same way.  But he's wrong.  There are animals that "mate for life".

Chris Henry has died from his injuries:

quote:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has died, one day after suffering serious injuries upon falling out of the back of a pickup truck in what authorities describe as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

Police say Henry died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday. Henry was 26.

Away from the team because of a broken forearm, Henry was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after being found on a residential road. Police say a dispute began at a home about a half-mile away, and Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his fiancee was driving away from the residence.

Police said at some point when she was driving, Henry "came out of the back of the vehicle."

Sad story.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: NFL News (12/17/2009 9:52:17 AM)

It is sad that this man had to die.

He was indeed a troubled soul.  He had anger management issues.  I suspect that those very issues led directly to his death.  Jumping in the bed of a truck while having a domestic dispute/argument?  That wasn't all that bright...and he's paid for it now, with his life.

I feel sorry for his family...his kids...his fiance'...All are going to have to suffer now because of his problems controlling his anger.

    Lovie Smith Safe for 2010
    Sat Dec 19, 2009

    The Chicago Sun-Times reports amid speculation that Bears HC Lovie Smith might be on the hot seat at Halas Hall after three consecutive non-playoff seasons, CSNChicago.com's John Mullin reported Friday that Smith will be retained for 2010. Citing "two highly placed individuals within the organization," Mullin reported there will be no coaching change "due in some measure to the looming prospect of a strike/lockout." Offensive and defensive coaches did not receive the same assurances, according to the CSNChicago.com report.

    Strike? That would be a major mistake, IMO. Maybe not, but I quit watching baseball cold turkey after their last one. It would be hard to give up football though. Even though I'm less interested this year than any year I can remember.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/21/2009 7:44:00 AM)

Tomlin's explanation of going for the onside kick with a two-point lead and a little under four minutes left against the Packers:

"I'll be very bluntly honest with you, based on the way the game was going in the second half, first of all I thought with the element of surprise we had a chance to get it, but if we didn't get it and they were to score, then we would have necessary time on the clock to score or match their score. Plan A didn't work, we got the ball but we were illegal, that was the correct call, but it kind of unfolded the way you envisioned it.

"We had 30 minutes of evidence that we could drive the ball on them, we also conversely had 30 minutes of evidence to show they could also drive the ball on us. That's why we took the risk when we did. We were just trying to win the football game. There was time left in that game that had we kicked that ball away and the half had gone the way that it'd gone, they were converting third downs. They would have moved the ball down the field on us, we wouldn't have had necessary time to respond. I'm just being honest, but it starts with feeling pretty good about the element of surprise and having a good chance to get that ball, but that part of it didn't work out.''

How the mighty defense has fallen. Wow. Mike Tomlin throwing his D to the wolves.

The way that game was going.  I don't blame him.  Not one little bit.

He made a good call considering they weren't stopping the Packers at all in the second half.

Took a chance, knowing that if the Packers got the ball they'd score quickly and the Steelers would still have a chance to score to win it.  Not the brightest decision, but as it turns out, it was the right one.

“It means a great deal to me,” Vick said Wednesday. “I was voted unanimously by my teammates. They know what I’ve been through. I’ve been through a lot. It’s been great to come back and have an opportunity to play and be with a great group of guys. I’m just ecstatic about that and I enjoy every day.”

“I’ve overcome a lot, more than probably one single individual can handle or bear,” Vick said. “You ask certain people to walk through my shoes, they probably couldn’t do. Probably 95 percent of the people in this world because nobody had to endure what I’ve been through, situations I’ve been put in, situations I put myself in and decisions I have made, whether they have been good or bad.

This is what I get for making a Vick joke. [X(]

I don't care, I will have my say.

You poor bastard! You got whisked out of the hood because you won the genetic lottery, were coddled through college and whisked off to the NFL which seen you get 100's of millions of dollars thrown at you!

Everyone knows the gory details of what he did, that he never even served one day for dog fighting or animal crulety, had the DA sucking his dick, did NOT serve hard time and then was immediately whisked back into the NFL by an idiot commisioner who wants to get those Williams boys and ding them with a longer suspension than Vick got for a) all he did b)lying and c) testing positive for drugs...

He gets a freakin award!!! And then comes out and says that shit!!!

No FN way.

The bold above concerns me. Do you really believe he was born a football player? I hate that whole god gifted athlete crap. The vast majority of professional athletes worked harder than you will ever work just to even have a shot at making it.

Do you really think the commisioner wants to suspend Pat and Kevin for a longer term than Vick got? Where does this come from?

I was never a fan of Vick the QB (pre dog killing days) and I'm not a fan now, but he did serve his sentence and was reinstated. What do you expect him to do, volunteer to serve 10 years in maximum security?

As far as the rest, it makes me sick to my stomach to hear Vick talk about what Vick went through. IMO, he should keep his mouth shut, work hard and hire a better PR firm.

Todd M -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/23/2009 11:31:11 PM)

Vick is on record saying he mailed it in and relied on his "god" given talent.

I didn't expect Vick to surrender to anything more than what he would get. Who would do that? The reality is that he got off easy. Poindexter made sure of it. He doesn't get to play how hard he had it card here.

And while Vick may have grown up in the projects he had a Mom and a Dad that were working and had family and social assistance from what I read so he doesn't get to play the how hard he had it card here either cause many people have to survive that in a single parent home and fight to get through life doing menial jobs.

I'm gald you agree that he should have just shut up. All he had to say was that he was grateful for the award and would continue to work hard at showing he's deserving.

With that I wouldn't have given this a second thought.

Todd M -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/23/2009 11:38:59 PM)

Vick was eligable to play the 3rd week (and did) so in effect was suspended two games. Being suspended indefinately while being investigated, tried and jailed for what he did doesn't count.

The Williams are looking at 4 game suspensions.

The Eagles’ game at Dallas next Sunday has been moved from a 1 p.m. kickoff to 4:15 p.m. If the Cowboys beat the Redskins on Sunday night, the Eagles-Dallas game will decide the NFC East champion.

I guess that means the Vikings will play two games before the Eagles play again.  Also, that means we will have to go all out to win the Giants game since we will need it to lock up the BYE

Panthers Could Have a Pair of 1,100-Yard Rushers
Fri Jan 1, 2010

The Charlotte Observer reports the Carolina Panthers already are the sixth team in NFL history with two 1,000-yard rushers in the same season, and they have a chance to become the first with a pair of 1,100-yard rushers. Pro Bowler RB DeAngelo Williams (1,117 yards) already is over 1,100 and RB Jonathan Stewart (1,008) needs 92 yards Sunday against New Orleans to join him there.

Stewart is gonna be a good one.

It sounds to me like she was trying to get away from him, it must have been fairly terrifying for her with him so desperate to get at her he jumped in the back of the pickup as she attempted to speed away. It wouldn't surprise me if in one sense she might be thinking it was either gonna be him or her, and she might thanking her lucky stars.

    NFL to Review Competitive-Balance Issues
    Sat Jan 2, 2010

    ESPN reports the NFL will ask the competition committee to review integrity-of-game and competitive-balance concerns with clinching playoff teams that choose to rest starters at the end of the season. "This is an issue that we have reviewed in the past. The position of the competition committee, and affirmed by the clubs, when it was reviewed in 2005 was that 'a team that has clinched its division title has earned the right to rest its starters for the postseason, and that preparing for the postseason is just as important as protecting some other team's playoff opportunity.' That is the current policy," league spokesman Greg Aiello said. "We are aware of the fan reaction and that is a factor to be considered," he continued. "Some teams that have everything clinched, like the Giants and Patriots two years ago, choose to play all out to continue or gain momentum for the playoffs. We expect to continue to review this issue." The Colts' recent 29-15 loss to the New York Jets, which ended their shot at an undefeated season, didn't sit well with Colts fans and NFL purists. The Colts (14-1) had nothing significant to play for, having clinched their eighth straight playoff berth in late November. In a controversial decision, HC Jim Caldwell chose to sit quarterback Peyton Manning and numerous starters for most of the second half. The Jets' win boosted the playoff chances for New York, which can clinch a postseason spot with a victory Sunday against the Bengals. Cincinnati, which has clinched the AFC North, also might sit some of its key players in the game.

    Simple.... only pay the players on the winning team.... [:D]
