John Childress -> RE: NFL News (1/3/2010 10:22:09 AM)

In the Saints case, I could see resting players (if they hadn't of lost).  They have never won a SB before and clearly have several key guys hurt.

The Colts, who won a few years ago, should have gone after 19-0 IMO.

That said, I don't see this as something the NFL can do anything about nor should they.  The goal of the HC is to win the SB.  He has that responsibility.  If they don't win he is the one who gets fired.

Leave this alone

Leave OT alone

Denver's coach is a complete jackass

If Bowlen has any sense he will fire this clown after they choke away the playoffs

Has any team every started 6-0 and missed the playoffs?

Yep.  2003 Vikings.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:NFL News (1/4/2010 12:05:44 PM)

Black Monday gets rolling ...

Entire Bills staff fired.
Zorn let go.
Clock ticking on Fox and Morris.
Tampa let Gruden and Dungy go, they won't be afraid to move on their rookie coach with 3 wins on the year.
Smith/Cable/DelRio being discussed. Mangini seems safe.

No surprise here.  Though Perry Fewell should get another look IMHO.

I think Fox saved his job by winning impressively to finish out the year.

It would be a shame.  Morris is young and new at this.  One season is not really enough to judge a coach on.  But hey, if they can get a Cowher or someone better...

Smith/Cable/DelRio being discussed.

Smith - Lovie should go...but I don't see it happening...too much contract for the cheap bastards running the Bears to eat.  and at some point they have to acknowledge that the problems the Bears are facing aren't the coach's fault, but the FO.

Cable - despite charges that beat an assistant coach's ass...he actually got a really shitty team to play competitively.  Al Davis needs to hire himself a GM and give up the day to day operations...Cable is clearly not the problem here.  When your top picks the last three years are JeMarcus Russell, Darren McFadden, and Darrius Heyward-Bey...It's no wonder your team sucks.  Cable deserves credit for the the limited success the Raiders have had...not firing....plus the Raiders have had NO stability in the coaching staff over the past 6 years or so.  They need to stick with one guy for a few years and see if he can improve the team.

Del Rio - I think his time is up.

quote:

Mangini seems safe.

And he should.  they started bad.  They traded one of their biggest playmakers in season, allowed another big one to get away last offseason and finished strong.  I thought it was a mistake to hire him in the first place after failing in New York...but I do think he deserves at least one more year.

I posted their last five #1 picks yesterday. I can't imagine doing a worse job especially having the 7, 1, 4 and 7 the past 4 years.

2005 #23 Fabian Washington CB - Traded in 2008 for a 4th round pick.

2006 #7 Michael Huff S - Part time starter. Bad in coverage, 4 INTs in 64 games.

2007 #1 JaMarcus Russell QB - 9 starts this year. 3 TDs, 11 INTs. Completing 47% of his passes.

2008 #4 Darren McFadden RB - The "Next AD" has less than 1000 yards and 5 TDs in 25 games.

2009 #7 Darrius Heyward-Bey - 16 games, 9 receptions, 124 yards, 1 TD, 6 Drops.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (1/5/2010 6:23:01 AM)

Fox should be retained but all GM powers stripped after the Delhomme fiasco

I would fire Cable for two reasons - beating his asst coach and also to completely rebuild the organization. It is a decade past time for Al to hire a real GM and let him bring in his own coach.

Mangini should be fired. I dont buy into wins after your team has been eliminated. Here again, the new management team should select their guy.

Beating your assistant coaches is not a good thing.  but since that incident, the Raiders have improved.  UNTIL Al Davis dies or catches a clue that he's gone senile, he wont hire a GM.  Until he does...he'e be better off keeping some stability in the coaching staff for a change....this hiring a new coach every year will only hurt your team's chances of success.

They shouldn't have hired him in the first place.  but since they hired him...I say give him at least 2 years to see what he can do.  You can't have a coaching carousel every stinking year and hope to compete.  The Browns were not expected to compete for anything this season except the top pick in the draft.  Perspective.  They did BETTER than most people expected.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:NFL News (1/5/2010 10:46:41 AM)

Mangini is the most overrated coach in the league.  Holmgren has proven his worth.  Let him bring in his own guy and get rid of Mangini.  It's what I would do if I were the walrus.

Did the Redskins bypass the Rooney Rule by hiring Shanahan right off the bat? It doesn't look like they intereviewed anyone else, or did I miss something?

I was thinking the same thing

Just be glad Dallas didn't get Shanahan. True.

David Levine -> RE: NFL News (1/7/2010 11:04:29 AM)

In Mike Holmgren's first move he just offered Joshua Cribbs, the ALL TIME NFL leader in kickoff returns for TD's and a threat every time he touches the ball $1.4 million. Cribbs cleaned out his locker.

92.951 at the Cowboys playoff game [:-]
Had no idea that stadium was that large.
Biggest crowd at a football game that wasn't a SB.

Ian Joseph -> RE: NFL News (1/10/2010 2:05:46 PM)

Some folks wanted to stage the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight there.. theyre thinking they could easily have over 100k in that venue.  I'd be one of them.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (1/10/2010 2:16:43 PM)

Good thing they have that giganto tron there because no one in the stadium would actually be able to see the fight. Even the first row would be too far away for an event like that.

Ian Joseph -> RE: NFL News (1/10/2010 2:30:06 PM)

And in essence, thats what makes that venue ideal, since the gigantro tron makes every seat in the house a good one.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (1/10/2010 2:41:35 PM)

Except the endzones. The Jumbotron is facing the sidelines.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: NFL News (1/10/2010 8:38:38 PM)

Actually, our neighbor is a season ticket holder and he said it's so big you just forget about the field and watch the jumbotron.  He said it's not worth going to the stadium and fighting crowds ect. because, in the end, you "end up watching tv anyway".

BTW- they "can" get about 120,000 in there if they want.  They have a standing room only section that they can pack in.  They've really scaled that back though.  The ticket holders bitched because the vendors couldn't make it through that crowd to get to the actual seats with food/drink.  All those people are really there to party so they were scooping up all the booze before Wally the beerman could make it there.

How long until they have a Wrestlemania there?  Vince McMahon could claim he sold 200,000 seats for that event.  [&:]

So many lies about that were told by so many people (including Harrison) that it would be nearly impossible to determine what the truth really is.

but I am amazed he avoided any further investigation.
