John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/24/2010 1:00:55 PM)

Did you watch them?

He didn't have good games. The Saints game he threw three terrible picks that buried them in that game. The only good game has had was against KC and they were trash.

He will never be good. Have you watched him play? He has a weak arm and slow feet. He will never be a good QB in the NFL.

No one had more invested in Kolb than Andy Reid. He traded away the best QB in Eagles history, in the division, to promote Kolb and he flat out sucked. He is not a rookie. This is his 4th year in the NFL!

Guest -> RE: NFL News (9/24/2010 9:32:00 PM)

The way you speak of Kolb, reminds me of John David Booty.

Not that I'm an expert, but I remember the first time in preseason I saw Booty drop back to pass against NFL players........
I knew immediately that his ceiling was Brooks Bollinger. Marginal arm and concrete shoes.

Personally, I haven't watched Kolb play one single game in the NFL, but I trust your judgment on this one.

Hell, he must be really awful because Childress, oops I mean Reid, decided to go back to Vick, and we know he doesn't like Vick.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/25/2010 5:31:46 AM)

That is what people are failing to realize. Forget my opinion. Call me biased, whatever.

But Andy Reid basically invested his coaching future in Philly in Kolb. He traded away the best QB the team has ever had for this guy and has already seen enough to know Vick is better.

That is extremely telling.

The worst part is the fundamental flaws in his game that won't get better with experience.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: NFL News (9/25/2010 9:30:11 AM)

Yeah, I've seen both Philthy games and Kolb sucked big time.  It's been a while since I've seen a QB play terrified.  That's Kolb.  Vick, as bad as I hate him, at least shows confidence.  You gotta think the team senses that.

Monday night's game between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears has been billed as a battle of coaching gurus, and for good reason. Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers is spinning a scheme that hardly resembles its 3-4 title, while Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz has already displayed a willingness to move away from his traditional seven-step drop passes to help quarterback Jay Cutler. According to ESPN's Stats & Information, the Packers have used their base 3-4 set on 15 of their 114 defensive snaps this season. Most of the others have featured a form of the nickel or dime package with extra defensive backs. That trend poses an interesting decision for Monday night. Cutler has a 105.5 passer rating this season against nickel defenses, but he threw five interceptions in two games against the Packers' nickel last season.

Woodson and the Packers' defense have played in their base 3-4 set only 13 percent of the time.
The numbers suggest the Packers should be judicious with their running game Monday night. With tailback Ryan Grant (ankle) out for the season, the Packers don't have a runner who can stretch the field. Brandon Jackson, John Kuhn and Dimitri Nance have combined for a 2.7-yard per carry average outside of the tackles since the start of 2009, according to ESPN's Stats & Information. And the Bears' defense has been especially stingy on outside runs this season, holding opponents to 2.2 yards per carry in those instances. Realistically, the Packers should focus on grinding some hard inside yards and then working their play-action game with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Whom do you trust more? A rookie first-round draft choice making his first NFL start? Or a middling veteran who has never started at the position? That's one of the key issues in Packers-Bears I, especially if the Packers start rookie Bryan Bulaga at left tackle (in place of the ailing Chad Clifton) and the Bears slide over right tackle Frank Omiyale to replace Chris Williams (hamstring). The significance of those possibilities can't be understated with two of the NFL's top pass-rushers on the field in Chicago's Julius Peppers and Green Bay's Clay Matthews. Even if Clifton and/or Williams manage to start, you're talking about two players who are injured enough to have missed significant portions of practice this week.

Love this guy:

"The standard is winning," Tomlin said. "The 11 on the field represent us. They're capable, and they embrace it."

"Braylon Edwards ended up missing 17 plays. I think the NFL taught us yet another valuable lesson about drinking and driving."

Great article on the Eagles passing game:

What is good about it is Andy STUBBORN AS BRAD Reid adopted his West Coast Offense to suit the talents of his team.

We need to do that.

Am I just channeling some inner Joe Namath ... or does Suzy Kolber get cuter every year?
She just did a remote from the Chicago/GB game, and she looked mahhhhhhvelllllous. [8|]

Lars -> RE: NFL News (9/27/2010 3:30:17 PM)

Watch it in high-def and then get back to me!

SoMnFan -> RE: NFL News (9/27/2010 3:32:29 PM)

It was. Guess I'm officially old. She's cute to me.
Lets nix this before it becomes a 4-page "Ann Carroll" debacle all over again.

That is the best part of getting old....the universe of hot women expands.

FWIW, I think she's cute as well.

That was the Jets. The NFL may have more to say on the matter.

Sorry to interrupt the "Suzy Kolber is cute" discusstion, but George Blanda....Dead at 83

SoMnFan -> RE: NFL News (9/27/2010 4:22:20 PM)

George Blanda was a hero to me when I was first watching the NFL/AFL.
He was this amazing old bastard who was way beyond his prime, and yet still somehow got things done.
One of the last crusty old warriors. Played for 5 more seasons in a career than anyone else ever has.

Quite the opposite

In the last 2 years not one single player has been disciplined by his team for DUI

The Jets did more than any other team

SoMnFan -> RE: NFL News (9/28/2010 10:19:15 AM)

Last nights Packer/Bear game was the top-rated "match-up of prick QBs" in the history of the NFL, according to The SMF Opinion Page .
Barely edging out the epic Jay Cutler/Phil Rivers duel of a couple years ago.
It's impossible to act any "cooler" than Cutler did last night, and it's also impossible to think up a more irritating move than Rodger's "I wear the belt" celebration.
Cannot wait to see these two clash twice a year forever ... [&o]

At one point it was mentioned that Rodgers and Cutler have become good friends.

You know when you go to a bar and see a couple douches that you absolutely know you hate before they say a word? That's them.

(I'd still take Rodgers as our QB in a heartbeat though...)

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/28/2010 1:45:50 PM)

How is Rodgers a prick?

I don't get that. He seems like a decent guy to me. Seriously, how can anyone with Brett Favre as their QB call another team's QB a prick!

SoMnFan -> RE: NFL News (9/28/2010 3:04:10 PM)

He's the GB Packers QB (that's about 70% of it)
Throw in another 25% for his choreographed "I wear the Belt" cele.
And another 5% for his friendship with Cutler.
He's a prick, IMO. I'm allowed an opinion.
I say in every post that he's very good, and I'd love to have a QB with his skill-set.
You like him. I don't. Don't let it bother you.
