While I wouldn't classify myself as a HUGE Tom Petty fan, as someone who dabbles with songwriting, I have a TON of respect for the guy. He has written hit songs/albums in four different decades. Yeah, he's not the most pure of talents, but the man knows how to write. On the whole, I like the direction they have headed since the Tit Seen 'Round the World. The Rolling Stones were a bit on the stale side, but McCartney and Prince absolutely ROCKED! But going with big-name veteran LIVE performers is great. These are the folks who have been touring for years and know exactly what it takes to put on a good show.

Well if I have to put up with a halftime show, it might as well be someone like Tom Petty. One of my favorites, I know at 44, I am old by music preference stadards, but hey I would be fine with a marching band on a Sunny afternoon. I hate the pomp and circumstance and night game. I Would go with the winner of Fox's Next Great American Band.

In the case of Detroit, "Free Fallin'" seems appropriate. Or "Breakdown". Or "Stop Draggin' my Heart Around". Or "You Wreck Me". Or "Yer So Bad". Wow. I had no idea until just now that Tom Petty is a HUGE Lions fan.

I just heard that Detroit's Roy Williams is out for the season with a sprained knee. Did he ever leave yesterday's game, or did he play with the injury?

He definitely did not finish the game.

Thanks Ben. I have to admit that when I'm at the game instead of watching it on TV, I miss some of that stuff. You'd think I would have noticed when someone as important as Roy Williams would have left the game... :shock:

It's one of the reasons I never get too broken up if I miss out on the company tickets - I notice a lot more. But really, it's a trade off. Some games, it's worth missing that kinda stuff. The San Diego game, for example.

At what time, I don't know.[/quote] Speaking of Roy Williams he is being interviewed on Detroit sports radio at this very moment - a regular segment he does every week (he's really a great upfront and well spoken guy). A couple of cool quotes: a) He got hurt on the pass down to the 4 yard line. Oddly enough he did the first down signals but felt odd back in the huddle. Appears he has a "grade 2 sprain of the PCL" may well be out for the season. b) The coolest part of the interview was when they started talking about AD and Calvin Johnson and shoud the Lions have taken AD (big topic round these parts). He stood up for his teammate and positionmate Calvin (of course) saying its hard to be one of many WRs and he has faith in CJ but then he says (paraphrasing)..."All Day, and I call Adrian Peterson All Day, man he is something else. To have a nickname All Day means that you can run all day long and he just gets stronger as the game goes on." The hosts said something like I compare him to Ladanian Tomlinson.. Williams responds "He's better than Ladanian. I mean I don't know about his hands, LT's got some great hands but running the rock he is better. He's got strength and power and shake. There's a man that loves to play the game. He just wants to be out there balling like we all have been since we were 6 or 7. He has fun playing the game and makes it fun for his teammates to play with him. He's All Day long." Wow. Was a really cool quote coming from a just vanquished (not to mention hurt for the season) competitor. Judging by this and his reception by the SD defenders at midfield after the game, AD is a very respected and well liked guy among his peers.

It was sad the way Gibbs called the second time out and gave up 15 yards of real estate giving Buffalo a much easier field goal. I would freak if my "newish" coach did somthing so dumb let alone a HOF coach. No Gibbs you can't double ice a kicker.

Who else has won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different QBs? Sad Also sad about Roy Williams - easily my second favorite non-Vikings WR. I like him the way DJ likes Andre Johnson - another stud. We will see if Calvin ever gets as good as those two.

We will see if Calvin ever gets as good as those two.[/quote] when i first saw this, i thought the same thing. then i heard two things that made me think about it. the first is that Gibbs would never had to know this rule before, since shanahan first got it going this year. but the real one, that to me really changed it, is that Gibbs said he asked the ref before calling it if it was allowed, and was told that it was. let's be real, if the refs, who's only job is the rules, don't know, it's hard to blame the coach for not knowing it, especially when he checked with them beforehand.
