I know, Jeff, it is just there are times where I almost believed Kazoo has credibility. But you are right, if Espn were a  band you could call them: New England Dan and the  Butt Munchers.

Jeremy Shockey was traded to the Saints for two draft picks Monday, giving New Orleans a disgruntled star tight end who watched from the sideline while injured as the New York Giants surged to the Super Bowl title.
The Giants will get second- and fifth-round picks in the 2009 draft. The deal must be approved by the league and is contingent on Shockey passing a physical.

Actually, He watched from a Luxury booth as his team won the title without him.

Shockey Looking for Revenge
Tue Jul 22, 2008

New York Newsday reports new Saints TE Jeremy Shockey will be looking for revenge when he takes the field against his old team, the Giants. "If the team trades me, I promise you I'm going to make them pay," Shockey said. The Giants and Saints are not scheduled to meet this season, but could both be playoff contenders and possibly meet in the postseason. The teams are scheduled to play in New Orleans in 2009.

Shockey's a dumbass. I'm going to make them pay.... [&o]

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:NFL News (7/22/2008 11:01:14 AM)

I thought that everything pointed to the fact that Shockey WANTED to be traded?  He had to be ordered to attend playoff games after his injury - - - he didn't even want to be there.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:NFL News (7/22/2008 1:26:39 PM)

Shockey is a pansy. He inferred that Parcels is gay, yet he is more of a he/she in my book.

Physically, he can be tough, play great, but I think he mentally gets in his own way. Just think if Homgren hadn't gotten cute and traded down in that draft, only to have the Giants jump up in front of his new position, Shockey would have been a Seahawk. Things might have been better for him and for the sure the Seahawks, who then panicked and took Jeremy'can't get it together'Stevens.

I just can't wait for two years from now when SC comes to the 'Shoe and hopefully we'll have a home game that weekend, and I can go up there and watch us pound on them in their own turf.

I'm really getting sick of it, and I just can't wait for this game to get here so they can come out to the Coliseum and experience LA and get an old-fashioned Pac-10 butt-whoopin' and go back to the Big Ten.

    Parcells Quit Coaching Because of Romo's Playoff Fumble
    Tue Jul 22, 2008

    The Sun Sentinel reports an advanced transcript of tonight's HBO's Real Sports show reveals that Miami Dolphins exec Bill Parcells basically quit coaching because of Dallas QB Tony Romo's botched hold on the snap that cost the Cowboys the wild card victory over the Seahawks two seasons ago. "We'd just lost to Seattle and I'm flying back," Parcells told Andrea Kremer of HBO from his summer home in Saratoga Springs. "I'm sitting up with the pilots, you know, I have a little fear of flying so I ride up in the cockpit. And I said, 'This is probably going to be my last trip.' And you just know. You don't want to go through the whole process again, to get to right where we were. You know? And all you got to do is kick a field goal, the most elementary of plays, and then you just don't do it. And so I don't want to go through that process again. Too much blood."

    NFL Suspends WR Chris Henry Four Games
    Thu Jul 31, 2008

    AP reports the NFL has suspended former Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry for four games. Henry was released by Cincinnati in April after his fifth arrest. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had suspended Henry indefinitely following his latest arrest. The charges against him on that arrest were subsequently dropped. Henry, 25, is one of a number of Bengals who got in trouble with the law the past few seasons. In signed by a team, Henry may participate in training camp and exhibition games. He will be eligible for reinstatement following the fourth game of the season. Henry was suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 season under the league's personal conduct policy. He returned to catch 21 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. But the Bengals released him after he was accused of punching a University of Cincinnati student and breaking his car window with a beer bottle. A jury failed to reach a verdict on an assault charge, resulting in a mistrial. Prosecutors dropped the case following unfavorable rulings by a judge before the retrial was to start.

So much for Mike Williams making the most of a third opportunity.

The Titans released him Thursday, adding another disappointing chapter to the once-heralded receiver's NFL career.

"It was a combination of things we weren't getting from him. There were too many drops. We just didn't see improvement,'' Coach Jeff Fisher said. "He's had potential. He still has potential. Maybe he'll realize it someplace else.''

Despite losing roughly 30 pounds and getting into better shape earlier this offseason, Williams was unable to move very far into the receiver rotation. His conditioning and weight remained issues as training camp progressed.

"It may be a message that coaches are serious, the organization is serious and they want people that are going to work and compete and take their jobs serious,'' linebacker Keith Bulluck said.

It's the third failed stint for Williams in the NFL. A first-round pick by the Lions in 2005, Williams was traded to the Raiders last year. Oakland released him in late October and shortly thereafter he signed with the Titans. He saw action in two games for Tennessee but did not have a reception.

Earlier this offseason, coaches were optimistic Williams might be on the verge of realizing some of the high expectations he carried into the NFL after a stellar career at Southern California.

But his first week of training camp turned out to be like his work in organized team activities in May and June — inconsistent. This week he got behind the defense only to drop a pass that landed in his hands. In many practices he was almost invisible.

"No disrespect to Mike Williams, I love Mike Williams, but he is going to have show people that he is really serious about playing football,'' said running back LenDale White, who was a teammate of Williams at USC. "Unfortunately, they might be talking about him like Ryan Leaf as one of the worst draft decisions.''

Well that should pretty much close the book on Williams career.  What does that tell you when the receiver starved and lacking Titans release you barely a week into camp?  A greater first round bust than Troy Williamson.

Yes, it's best that your owner is not passionate about the team.

Interesting. Supposedly this is the second time that Smith has beat the $h1t out of a teammate. Randy Moss is a cancer though.

    Goodell Talks about Reducing Preseason & Expanding Regular Season
    Sat Aug 2, 2008

    The Cincinnati Enquirer reports NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed his desire to reduce the number of games played in the preseason. The NFL now has a 20-game season, four in the preseason and 16 that count. Discussions are underway to change the structure. "I've been quite clear," Goodell said. "I think the quality of the preseason is not up to NFL standards." He said ramifications of a change would have to be weighed but that he favors a 17-3 split (regular-season to preseason) as a starting point. "I wouldn't rule out 18-2," he said. "It is my opinion we need less," Goodell added when asked if four preseason games were needed to prepare for the regular season. A schedule change also would affect the football calendar. Goodell favors the regular season starting after Labor Day and would not mind if the Super Bowl were pushed even later into February. He said the league prefers the two-week break between the AFC and NFC championship games and the Super Bowl.
