    Goodell Wants Rookie Salary Slotting System
    Sat Aug 2, 2008

    The Cincinnati Enquirer reports NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed his desire for a rookie salary slotting system during his visit to Bengals training camp today. "It would have to be collectively bargained," Goodell said of a system currently in place in the NBA, which prevents draft picks from holding out. The Bengals first-round pick, OLB Keith Rivers, the ninth overall selection, is one of two drafted players not signed. "It's clear we have an issue here. Something is wrong with the system. It's a disservice to the player who's not in camp. Veteran leadership suffers when you have a rookie making more money."

Steve Smith suspended two games for breaking a teammates nose in their scuffle yesterday.
2 lessons ....
Don't "F" with the Panthers management, and ..
Don't "F" with Steve Smith [:-]

Fantasy Footballers Beware ..... Smith loses two games. That should change the draft a little.

Interesting. Supposedly this is the second time that Smith has beat the $h1t out of a teammate. Randy Moss is a cancer though.

Yeah,
The report that the teammate was down on one knee whith his helmet off on the sideline when Smith attacked him.
Erik
I see that you guys already covered this issue.

Smith is a real jackass

    O'Sullivan Looking Better than Other 49ers QBs
    Sun Aug 3, 2008

    The San Francisco Chronicle reports 49ers QB J.T. O'Sullivan looked better than the team's other quarterbacks for the fourth straight day Saturday. O'Sullivan went 15-of-19 with good command and touch on deep passes. QB Alex Smith went 10-of-21 with little command and threw his daily interception to FS Dashon Goldson. QB Shaun Hill went 3-of-6. O'Sullivan's promotion into the every day quarterback competition was not likely planned. OC Mike Martz and HC Mike Nolan grew frustrated with the pace of Smith's and Hill's development in the new system. Martz knew he had O'Sullivan, who by all accounts, learned his offense quickly last year with the Lions, so the decision was made to toss him in. Meanwhile, Smith and Hill continue to toil so if the offense suddenly clicks for one of them, all the better.

Injuries and attitude. What a waste of an amazing talent.

Don't forget seeing his teammate killed and then getting knocked out himself.

I'd file that one under "attitude".

We should expect Brad H any second now...

Colt Brennan completes his first pass...a beautiful pass on 3rd and long...to some a WR named Billy McMullen...

granted, against 3rd stringers...

But I don't doubt We'll hear plenty about picking Booty over Brennan...

NEW YORK -- The NFL implemented a new code of fan conduct Tuesday, warning that spectators who misbehave will be ejected from stadiums and barred from coming back.
The policy, first recommended by commissioner Roger Goodell at league meetings in April, is aimed at conduct that the league said "detracts from the gameday experience."
It includes bans on:
• Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal.
• Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior.
• Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.
• Interference with the progress of the game, including throwing objects onto the field.
• Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel.
• Verbal or physical harassment of fans from the opposing team.
"The in-stadium experience is critically important to the NFL, our clubs and our fans and it will be a major focus this season," Goodell said in a statement. "We are committed to improving the fan experience in every way we can -- from the time fans arrive in the parking lot to when they depart the stadium."
The league also left teams the option of adding additional provisions to the code based on local circumstances. It said the guidelines would be contained in mailings to fans and signs posted at stadiums.

I have more respect for him now than I ever did.  He's willing to give back the scratch, who does that?

Football is still just a game, and if he thinks he can get his life in order without football, I applaud him and wish him the best.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:NFL News (8/6/2008 9:51:26 AM)

If true, good for him.  The way the league is going now it wouldn't surprise me if it were a ruse to get out of playing for the Raiders.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (8/6/2008 10:35:13 AM)

Shawn Andrews - Eagles RG- is going through a similar thing right now.

Steelers Pass on Culpepper
Sun Aug 10, 2008

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers will not sign free agent QB Daunte Culpepper at this time, choosing to sign free agent QB Byron Leftwich instead. Leftwich (6-5, 242) and Culpepper (6-4, 260) each passed physicals in Pittsburgh this morning and reported to training camp in Latrobe for individual workouts while the Steelers debated which quarterback to sign.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:NFL News (8/11/2008 2:59:53 PM)

Do you think they would have signed Duante, if they didn't have to work with agent Duante? Culpepper is getting himself blackballed buy being his own agent, I really feel this is playing a role in his not getting a job. Duante has to be a better option that Byron The Statue Leftwich.

Daunte needs a year off to swallow his pride

Seahawks' Bobby Engram out 6-8 weeks

The only reason I post this is because it moves Nate Burleson to the #1 WR in Seattle. Man, I wish we still had Nate. I liked that kid.

I can't take Seattle seriously with the mediocre WRs that they keep running out.

Culpepper Didn't Like Steelers Offer
Wed Aug 13, 2008

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports free agent QB Daunte Culpepper said he was unwilling to take the deal from the Steelers that QB Byron Leftwich did. Culpepper is prepared to wait for a better opportunity and when he gets it, he believes he will shine. "The workout went great, as per the (Steelers)," stated Culpepper. "I feel great. It was good to get out and show the Steelers that I am healthy."

Let's get a Culpepper In Purple thread started. [&:]
