Steelers win big, bank on it. [:D]

marty -> RE: RE:Da Bears (9/21/2009 7:42:37 PM)

I don't think the Bears take off if they beat the Steelers, but it may give them back some confidence.  Even if it is a false sense of confidence, a confident Bears team COULD come back and make a run for the division.  Beating the Steelers would be a BIG win for them.

I was HOPING the Steelers would ruin the Bears confidence by beating them, but the game went about as I expected.

Kicking goat of the week!
Last week it was Rod Bironas of Tennessee.

marty -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/12/2009 9:26:12 PM)

This is NOT a team to over-look.

I still think they MIGHT have the best the best coach in the division (but I HAVE been impressed with the Vikings' halftime adjustments), and WRs ARE hanging onto Cutlers' passes.  WR might not be as much of a weakness for them as once thought.

TheGonz -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/16/2009 9:23:08 PM)

Bears trade their second-round pick in 2010 to Tampa Bay for Gaines Adams, who has done jack squat in the NFL.

Just another lukewarm body for McKinnie and/or Loadholt to humiliate when the Bears come a-callin'.

Also, the Bears now don't have any picks until the 3rd round of the 2010 draft.  I guess they don't need the picks. . .it's not like their secondary is a joke, their offensive line is made up mostly of AARP recipients, and their linebackers aren't getting any younger or healthier.

marty -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/16/2009 9:41:44 PM)

No.  Just another player for Lovie to fit into his system to give more pass rush and stuff the run.  The trade for Ogunleye filled a hole, he has been pretty solid against the run and pass.  Games are won at the LOS, and the Bears now have good DL coach that is improving things over last year.

This move also helps promote the idea that management is always doing what they can to improve the team, keeps the fanbase interested, and shows that they want to win NOW.
Get enough pressure up front and poor 2ndary players look decent, medicore 2ndary players look great.

The Bears are NOT a team to over-look.  Lovie has been QUITE GOOD against Favre, he brings the blitzes, puts the heat on.

Trading for Gaines Adams because you want to make a Super Bowl run is the football equivalent of dealing for Milton Bradley to improve your team's chemistry.

There is a big difference between Ogunleye and Adams. One is good, the other isn't.

marty -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/16/2009 11:17:17 PM)

Adams might play just fine being next to Tommie Harris, Ogunleye on the other side, the DL has already improved this year.  It's their 2ndary that still has a few question marks.

djskillz -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/17/2009 10:54:41 AM)

Ya, who knows if this move will work, but man, it's a little weird to go "all in" when your team is not even close to championship quality.

They have NO first day pick this year in the draft now.  That's not good.  For them.

marty -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/17/2009 11:42:48 AM)

The way SOME teams draft, they might be better off trading their FIRST round pick for a player that is right now a slightly above average player.

Perhaps the Vikes should follow the Bears lead obtain a decent Safety for a 2nd or 3rd rounder ?

djskillz -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/18/2009 9:01:43 AM)

Nope.  MadWill's gonna be just fine, and IS an above-average safety.  And TJohnson's still going to be a good safety too IMO.  Just takes some time.

People are saying the same thing about TyJo as they did about Cedric Griffin two years ago.  They wanted to dump him...he sucks...he couldn't cover a bed if he were a blanket....blah, blah, blah.  Well we stuck with him for now folks. and if you are patient...as you should be with young players in the NFL...you might be surprised.  They also said that Sidney Rice would never amount to a hill of beans.  That's looking pretty foolish now too.

John Childress -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/19/2009 9:27:31 AM)

Let's not revise history

Tyrell Johnson HAS sucked his entire career so far.  There is no reason other than blind hope to think he will be good.  I heard the same thing from you guys about McCauley and Allison.

Madieu Williams HAS taken huge steps backwards this year.

Rice was NOT productive at all last year but now it is clear that he was hurt.

djskillz -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/19/2009 9:40:50 AM)

I think Scott's point, JC, is just that it's far too early to give up on these guys for good.

Yes, it's possible that TJ might never do anything; it's also possible he develops into a REALLY good safety.  We just don't know yet.

I'm all for bringing in help for TJ, and I think we should, but I'm not giving up on him yet.

Allison I simply liked over our other stiffs on the roster like Wade/Williamson, etc.  I thought he should have been given a shot.  But he was a 5th rd pick, so he clearly didn't have the full pedigree.  Tyrell Johnson is different, IMO.  He was the 2nd safety drafted and we traded up to get him.  As such, I think he deserves more than 12 games to prove himself.

That is exactly my point...NFL players for the most part do not develope at the speed of AD, or Matt Ryan, or Joe Flacco.  the VAST MAJORITY take a few years to get good.  To give up on a guy before he's even played a full season worth of games is giving up way too soon.

Totally agree.

Allison showed signs of ability...but I am guessing he had some attitude issues in the practice facilities or didn't practice well.

Johnson was one of the best rates safeties in that draft.  He just needs more time to develope.  There isn't much we can do about it now...unless you want Jamarcus Sanford starting?  Or Hussein Abdullah?

djskillz -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/19/2009 9:50:44 AM)

Agreed, Scott.

And I'd absolutely be playing Asher Allen at this point as well.

The point is, it is just as likely that guys like Johnson never amount to anything as it is that they become the next Shiancoe and go from dog to hero.

Pedigree doesn't matter that much either.  Here are some other 2nd round draft picks

Ryan Cook
Tarvaris Jackson
Marcus Johnson
Dontarrious Thomas

Prove himself?  No, this team is trying to win a title.  We can't afford to have a Safety playing that poorly when the SB champs are up next.  This isn't the developmental league.

If you can't play you can't be on the field.

You're right...he could just as easily fail as succeed.

You must also acknowledge that we have no one who is better than him on the roster right now (a frightening thought, I know).  So who do we replace him with?

I think he is still learning.  I think he can still develope into a good safety.  but the only reason I don't agree with benching him right now is that we have no one that can step in either.

marty -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/19/2009 10:25:58 AM)

I was saying before the season that we might miss Sharper more than some think.  He is a film nut, gets most players in the right position, and USUALLY hangs onto picks.

Would have been a nice, veteran leader in the 2ndary to keep around on a team that is poised for a playoff run.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:Da Bears (10/19/2009 10:38:40 AM)

Just think if Gruden wouldn't fallen in love with Cadillac, kack, Kack, Williams. If they go different in that draft, they take AD instead of Gaines, they in fact still should have taken AD, because at the time Cadillac was coming off one of his many injuries that have reduced him to more just roster worthy, than top 5 franchise back.

I think the Adams trade is a good one for the Bears. Adams has underacheived, but all you have to do is look at a guy like Antwon Odam, who was having a career year, before the Ac injury yesterday, to see an example of a guy that took a little longer to go from average to above average. Adams will flourish on the Marinelli line.

If the Bears really want to rebuild through aquiring under acheivers with talent, they should offer that 2010 3rd rounder to the Chefs for Larry Johnson. Another square peg that would fit well in Chicago's defense.

Chicago OLine lost that game last night. That and the fact that Matt Forte has been figured out and exposed. I am so glad the Bears were dumb enough the let THomas Jones go. They probably score 3 more tds last night, at least 2 if Jones is playing for them instead of the Jets. Speaking of Jets, Mark Sanchez has been figured out, usually takes about 3 games of tape on a quarterback the league is unfamiliar with. That is why Flacco and Ryan are so special. What should have happened to them never really did.

Larry's a running back.

How would he help Chicago's D?

Chicago already has no 1st or 2nd round picks in the next two drafts.  There is no way they give up a 3rd rounder now...especially not Derek Johnson.
