2. I think I've got to question the Bears leaving themselves without a pick in the first two rounds for two straight drafts. I liked the Jay Cutler trade, which cost two first-round picks, a third- and Kyle Orton. But in sending their 2010 second-rounder to Tampa Bay for disappointing pass-rusher Gaines Adams (13.5 sacks in 36 Buccaneer games), the Bears likely won't pick 'til sometime in the eighties ... in one of the best drafts in years. If Chicago doesn't get significantly more out of Adams (with ace defensive-line coach Rod Marinelli becoming his tutor), GM Jerry Angelo will regret this deal for a long time.

Chicago already has no 1st or 2nd round picks in the next two drafts.  There is no way they give up a 3rd rounder now...especially not Derek Johnson.

I read this hoping for something to dump on the Bears about and I realize that Cedric Benson still takes no responsibility for his Chicago actions. He was immature and never tried to earn the respect his team mates had no desire to hand out freely. Although if Thomas Jones punched him in the face, that is uncool.

I think he has grown up in Cincinnati and the Bears did him a huge favor of Cris Carter proportions. He has nothing to resent in my opinion. Speaking of Cris Carter, I always thought that he appreciated Buddy Ryan giving him a wake up call. WRONG, he ripped on Buddy and his "All CC can do is catch touchdowns!" --CC went on tell how the first time he played them he wanted to show Philly, Buddy in particular, what a huge mistake they made.

Cutler extended. As much as I want him to suck, I think this is a good move for them. If they ever get an offensive line and some real receivers, he will be something we don't want to deal with.

It is easy to dislike the neckfat punkass that he is. I do think that if he doesn't start studying more he could turn into Duante. He is dumb as hell in the redzone.

Trying to determine the most overrated Bear is a lot like trying to pick out the hottest cheerleader.  Seriously. . .

Is it Jay Cutler, a guy who hasn't quarterbacked a team to a winning season since his senior year of high school, yet is looked upon as this great, elite NFL quarterback?

Is it Devin Hester, who the Bears' front office decided needed to make the brilliant transition from being (possibly) the greatest special teams player of all-time to a below-average receiver?

Is it Matt Forte, who some "experts" were putting in the same class as Adrian Peterson leading into this season and can't average more than 3 yards a carry against anyone except Detroit and Cleveland?

Is it Tommie Harris, a guy who hasn't made a significant impact on a game in about two years and had one of the biggest spaz attacks I've ever seen this afternoon, getting ejected on the 4th play of the game?

Is it Charles Tillman, a guy who is still living off of the one significant play he's ever made (against Randy Moss in '03) and, frankly, is still trying to figure out where Bernard Berrian went from last year's game at the Dome?

Seriously. . .that's a lot of overrated talent on one team.  And I didn't mention Olin Kreutz, who is allegedly one of the league's elite centers, but gets absolutely destroyed by Pat Williams every time the Vikings and Bears get together.

How about Lovie Smith?

How bad can it get for the Bears defense? Throw out that win last week at home against hapless Cleveland, and Chicago has lost its past two games by a combined 86-31, getting drilled 45-10 at Cincinnati, and beaten 41-21 by the Cardinals on Sunday. It may be time for head coach Lovie Smith to reconsider having Lovie Smith as his defensive play-caller.

The Chicago Bears hired Mike Tice to coach the offensive line, the first addition to a staff with several holes to fill.


Tice has spent the past three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars as the assistant head coach working primarily with tight ends. In Tice's first two seasons in Jacksonville, the Jaguars' rushing attack had the two most productive seasons in team history, gaining 2,541 yards in 2006 and 2,391 yards in 2007. Jacksonville set franchise records in 2007 for points (411), average yards per play (5.6) and touchdowns (50).


"[Bears coach] Lovie [Smith] and I shared a lot of thoughts on a lot of different things, and certainly the greatest thing about our meeting was the fact Lovie Smith and I are on the same page philosophically [regarding] which direction he would like the see the offense go," Tice said Friday on "The Afternoon Saloon" on ESPN 1000. "I feel very good in the fact that the [new offensive coordinator] Lovie brings in, or the Bears bring in for that position, is going to be compatible to the philosophy that Lovie and I share going forward."

Tice, a former tight end who played 13 seasons in the NFL, coached the Minnesota Vikings' offensive line from 1997 until the final game of the 2001 season when he took over as interim coach following Dennis Green's firing.


Tice was 32-33 in five-plus seasons with the Vikings before being fired following the 2005 season. He landed in Jacksonville with good friend and Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio

He was an offensive line coach for the Vikings
Then Head Coach for the Vikings
Then Assist head coach and TE coach for the Jaguars
Then back now to offensive line coach for Da Bears.

Well maybe he will be head coach next for the bears if I am following Tice's pattern.

What Urlacher fails to mention is how the lack of good QB play stopped them from winning Super Bowls

You have 8 teams in the playoffs and 7 of them have stud QBs and the 8th guy could become one over time.

The Jets, and to a much lesser degree the Ravens, utilize that formula.  The other 6 teams count on their QBs to make big plays.  Rivers, Manning, Favre, Romo, Brees, and Warner are stud QBs that make plays down the field.

Generally speaking, the top QBs are in the playoffs and win the big games
