All good ideas, peeps, about wearing a Barr jersey and rubbing their noses in it. BUT - I have to keep seeing these people a couple of times a year! [:-]

And quite honestly, one of the reasons I never dish out smack talk is because I am very thin skinned about receiving it. And I also believe it all comes back to haunt you - so if I were to be a pill about this year's situation, I think Karma would remember that.

So yer saying Karma shouldn't be delivering on your behalf this season?

Lynn G. -> RE: The Packers (12/22/2017 9:37:25 AM)

Nope. Fifty years of suffering should absolutely shower us with good karma. And I ensure that by not talking smack with rival fans. [:D]

Lynn G. -> RE: The Packers (12/22/2017 9:38:19 AM)

I should clarify - I'm talking about smack directly to their faces that would get me bad karma.

Smacking them upside the head in a football forum is perfectly acceptable. [:D]

marty -> RE: The Packers (1/5/2018 9:21:00 PM)

I think we got our answer as to why Aaron might have allowed himself to get hurt:

Many fans have complained about Caper's vanilla defense over the years, Rodgers probably wanted Capers fired. If Rodgers were out, Capers being a weakness would be magnified, especially with a playmaker like Peppers no longer there.

Rodgers got tired of having to do so much. He was probably also unhappy with the job Ron Wolf was doing, not getting impact FAs, and letting his interior lineman go the last few years.

marty -> RE: The Packers (1/5/2018 9:29:12 PM)

I thought Capers was a weakness, but didn't post it here, and avoided mentioning it when talking with Packer fans, as I didn't want the Packer organization to pick up on the collective conscious idea that Capers was a weakness, at least delay them getting that idea as long as possible, and he thankfully stayed there for a while, I was hoping longer.

Even the one year the Packers won the SB, it was mostly their offense that won it. It wasn't great defensive schemes, more a few playmakers making plays or causing turnovers to win it for them. The Pack might have had a few more SB rings if Capers had left after they won the SB.

Let's just cross our fingers that the Packers get someone that is the same as Capers, or maybe worse.

Ron Wolf retired as Packer GM 17 years ago. You mean Ted Thompson.

Capers has been on thin ice for years but I think it was more a matter of a lack of talent.
TT did ok in the drafts but the big issue with him is he would rarely re-sign his own draft picks when they're rookie deal expired. Last couple years he let Devon House walk and then Micah Hyde when they're secondary was not only devoid of talent but no depth as well. This really pigeoned holed him in last Aprils draft. He had to take a CB when they could have had TJ Watt.

Actually had Erin not get hurt it may have masked all they're weaknesses another year and all this shake up wouldn't be happening. But I doubt he wanted to get hurt.

TT I think was going to be outed either way do to health concerns.

Kudos, you probably bought us a couple years.

apparently Marty is the voice of the collective conscious of upper packer hierarchy

Pager -> RE: The Packers (1/6/2018 11:49:29 AM)

Capers had GB #2 in scoring D and #5 in yards allowed when they won the only superbowl during A-aron's time period.

I don't TT has invested in defensive players like we have. You can coach up some, but you still need talent.

Don't think Capers leaving will be a boon or bust for their defense.

Bill Jandro -> RE: The Packers (1/6/2018 12:19:28 PM)

It's looking more and more like a complete house cleaning if McCarthy walks.

marty -> RE: The Packers (1/15/2018 7:42:49 PM)

There are quite a few Packer fans now cheering for the Vikes. I guess many of them were pretty excited when the Vikes won, and several I talked to want the Vikes to win it all. They don't like the East Coast teams or Cowboys getting all the attention.

The support of many Packer fans has kinda surprised me, and it made feel a little guilty.

I have always cheered against the Packers, many times quietly in my head when I have been watching a Packers game with a group of Packer fans. I can only recall ONE time where I cheered for the Packers, and that was last year when they played the Bears, and I had the Packers in an elimination contest (with co-workers and I won it in week 8), and they were in a tight game for 3 quarters. It was a little surreal, awkward, and grotesque rooting for the Pukers, it felt a little nauseating, almost made me throw up.

SoMnFan -> RE: The Packers (2/1/2018 2:30:54 PM)

Kinda fun to watch Aaron Rodgers air the dirty laundry on Golic and Wingo this morning.
He's pissed about the Pack firing his QB coach "without even consulting me"
It was uncomfy and pretty revealing.
Here's hoping things blow apart over there.

marty -> RE: The Packers (2/6/2018 10:17:04 PM)

Hope you are right SoMnFan.

This is response to David Levine, as there were some children in the Vikings thread that had a problem with my making a point that the Vikings OC position is a sought after job, much like the Packers' DC position:

I believe POINTS are WAY more important when talking about the defense. Yardage ranking matters very little.

And Green Bay has been significantly worse at points the past 2 years

Exactly my point David. And despite the Pack being THAT bad, because they had Rodgers, they still made the NFC Championship just a little over a year ago.

Dom Capers Sucked, and I never said it here, as I was hoping he would stay there as long as possible. Favre said it was an easy defense to throw on, and even the year the Packers won the SB, it was their offense that carried them, getting an early lead. The defense wasn't some great scheme, Capers just had a few 2ndary guys that would get picks when they played with a lead.

My point stands, if the Packers get a mediocre DC, they will be a contender. I hope they make a mistake and find one that is even worse than Capers.

marty -> RE: The Packers (2/9/2018 2:26:42 AM)

I should have just kept the Packers stuff in this thread.

I post strong points on this stuff in the Vikings thread, and a few posters, knowing I blew away their arguments, resorted to calling me names or the usual, 'you're just slobbering over something Packers. No, I am just pointing out that Capers old schemes were holding the Packers back, and was disappointed I didn't get any intelligent responses, I know some of you can do better.

Favre said Caper's schemes were easy to dissect and beat. Before Favre, the Vikes beat the Packers in the playoffs with a hobbling Randy Moss. Every year but their SB year, it could be said that Capers defense was the main reason they lost, it was too soft, gave up big plays, would get exploited by Kap's running, or big plays and long passes by opposing teams.

I put Capers as being a little below average, but some would argue worse than that. Hopefully the Pack can find out that is even worse, and have them end up ranking at the very bottom of the league in giving up points.

Bob Slowik was their defensive coordinator that season.

Maybe that is why you don't get many intelligent responses.

Oh and Favre threw for 216 yards 1 TD 4 INTs

marty -> RE: The Packers (2/11/2018 12:01:31 AM)

Thank you BigO, I appreciate your good point, it's much better than childish name calling.

I don't always think things through, and sometimes rely on information from talking with people, and any correction to factual mistakes is appreciated.

So I gave many examples of why Capers wasn't all that great with the Pack, and I went back too far in time, thinking he had been there a long time. I'm human, and will admit my mistakes. I'm not really here to pat my ego, as much as to have good discussions and to learn things.

I talked with someone today that said the year following their SB win, the Packers went 15-1 while the Capers led defense was the lowest ranked defense. Nice feat if it's true. I'm guessing if it IS true, it's probably that foolish ranking by yardage, which I think it should be based on POINTS, and it would be nice if they had a way of filtering out some garbage time points when some scores get really out of hand.

You're an interesting guy, marty. To be both a Vikings fan and a Packers fan is tricky business.

marty -> RE: The Packers (3/14/2018 1:33:17 AM)

I was loving that the Packers went and got what appeared to be the Browns' biggest weakness, and signed him to be their backup QB.

I am cautiously optimistic about the Cousins signing.

I was thinking yesterday, as long as the Packers don't sign Graham or Wilkerson. Now I hear they got BOTH ??? [X(] [X(]

I heard the Pack could also get Jordy Nelson back on a much cheaper contract.

marty -> RE: The Packers (3/14/2018 1:42:21 AM)

Anyone who doesn't think the Pack will be a contender for the division, doesn't understand the game.

Rodgers is still a better QB than Cousins, and that is the position that counts. He knows what to do when a play breaks down, Kirk will either need experience to figure those things out, or it's possible he NEVER figures out those sorts of things.

Graham is an awesome player that we will hope is on the downside of his career. Let's hope the same with Wilkerson, and that the new Packers' DC Is clueless or a bad fit. If he makes that defense mediocre, the Pack could catch a few breaks (maybe even with the usual little help from the officials), and win the division.

Not a good idea to take the Pack lightly.

Todd M -> RE: The Packers (3/14/2018 7:01:45 AM)

Packers 3rd place in the division in 2018.

If Rodgers is healthy they are a contender. And good teams take every opponent seriously or they get beat by an inferior team.

marty -> RE: The Packers (3/14/2018 8:55:06 PM)

I made a mistake in names, Wilkerson was NOT the guy I feared the Packers getting, it was Richardson.

Wilkerson might be a good player, but Richardson was the guy that really impressed me with his college clips before he was drafted.

I think the Vikes can outdo the Packers by signing Richardson. Richardson > Wilkerson, I am guessing the stats bear that out.

marty -> RE: The Packers (3/21/2018 12:11:37 AM)

I forgot to mention in here last week, I ran into a Packers' fan that I have known for a few years.

When I asked him what he thought of the Vikings signing Cousins (I thought he might make fun of it, point out his record against winning teams, or make some comment about choking), instead, he got a really serious look on his face, and even seemed visibly agitated, when he said,

'I don't like it; I hate it. That was the ONE guy I didn't want the Vikings to get !'

Possible chaos and chemistry problems in Green Bay:

LOVE it !!! I hope the person that suggested the Packers would finish in 3rd place behind the Bears is right [8D]

marty -> RE: The Packers (10/11/2018 11:40:16 PM)

Rodgers seems to play up his injury whenever he makes a bad throw, or if anyone is close to hitting him.

One second he is gimpy, then a play later, he gets out of the pocket, surprises the defense, and takes off running for a 10 yard gain to pick up a first down.

I wonder if he has been watching old tapes of Favre on acting ?

I am guessing there will be a Rodger's slobber fest Monday night, and he'll put up a big night, is next in line for Monday night QB adoration, following Brees. Should be an easy night for him, his defense pitching a shutout last time they played at home.

The Pack will face a backup QB in Beathard, or whomever it is, but I wonder if Shanahan might fool the Fackers defense a few times with some of his innovations???
