Easy win for the Packers today, as it should have been. With the running game clicking once again, this offense is looking real damn good right now. 9-1 is outstanding and with a win on Thursday, the division is essentially wrapped up.

Get over it John.
Charter cable now gives us each network on two stations, one in Wisconsin and the other from Minneapolis, so now we get Green Bay and Minnesota every week. The Pack goes on the big screen and the Vikes game goes on the smaller TV. Ah, times change - but we still don't like the Vikings.
Is that allowed under NFL rules? I'm in Chicago this weekend, so I actually got to watch the Packers game. Had I stayed in the TC, it would've been Vikings.

They also have bad luck too. And the good teams overcome the bad luck and still scratch out wins. Good for the Packers. They are destined for a first round bye in the playoffs. Maybe even one more SB appearace for the aged (I mean ageless) one. In which they will be slaughtered by the vastly superior Patriots. (Though I don't care who faces the Patriots from this point on, I want the other team to win).

You back up what I said Scott - a team can be both good AND lucky. If you can point out the good, you can also point out the lucky. We did it for the Bears a couple of seasons ago - - - this isn't any different.

Heck with the NFC, the Packers could easily win it, especially with home field advantage. But they will get trounced of epic proportions in the SB against New England.

If the refs let Harris and Woodson mug Moss and company it could be close than you think. You know how the refs let GB get away with murder and how unfair they are on Moss. They could actually keep it close for a couple of quarters.

Guest -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 4:44:33 PM)

Harris and Woodson won't cover Moss....they might TRY... but cover... :lol:

Andy Lowe -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 4:46:14 PM)

One funny/ironic thing I was thinking about, is that GB and NE are not really set up (at least offensively) to take maximize their homefield adavantage once the bad weather kicks in. I know NE may be rated high running, but let's not kid ourselves, they are a passing team first. Will be interesting to see if they can keep their high octance offenses going in bad weather games.

John Childress -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 5:10:55 PM)

Coach of the Week Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy. No Packer coach has had a better first 26 games than McCarthy, who, after the rout of Carolina, is 17-9 at the start of his Green Bay career. Vince Lombardi was 16-10 after 26 games

His gameplanning has been great and he has made very good halftime adjustments as well. He has been able to get the team fired up to play as well. He was an outstanding hire and right now has to be the frontrunner for Coach of the Year.

Guest -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 5:55:21 PM)

And the one loss came in a game where I thought McCarthy did a poor job coaching in the second half. They could be undefeated right now. I still think Dallas is a better team. And if the GMen ever get any consistency out of Manning, they could upset somebody in the post season.

#1 Bart Starr fan -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 6:09:21 PM)

Got back from Lambeau too late last night to post. It was a fun game to watch...weather was pretty good but we were in the SW end zone and didn't get the benefit of the warming effects of the sun. Anyway, despite how the game may have appeared on TV or from the score, some of the fans there were disatsified with the run play calling. Grant had better success earlier against Carolina running between the tackles. He hardly had one decent run around the ends yet that's where they kept running the ball. He did alright, but a lot of the fans were saying a straight ahead/off tackle play would have made more sense. Also, Brett played VERY conservatively yesterday, only going deep I think 2 or 3 times with only one completion. And it showed in how low his yardage stats were. OTOH, he threw 3 TDs and no picks. Also, the defense played really poorly for most of the 2nd half. The fact that, with a recovered on-side kick, Carolina could've still stolen this game from us, is solely on the D. They played VG in the first half, but in the second, the Panthers totally manhandled them, running for a lot of yards. And I sure hate to see it when we play prevent as we did late in the game. Vinny was completing a lot of mmid-range passes on their last drive. And almost no pressure on Testaverde either, which was REALLY pissing the fans off. He had way too much time on most pass plays. And, for those who always think the refs favor us, this game it was no way. One PI on Green Bay call was a total job. The Panther had already run out of bounds, plus the PI call itself was so weak to begin with. At one point, Packers had 75 yards in penalties compared to 15 for the Panthers. We HAVE to play better against Detroit and esp. against the Cowboys. I still like our chances, provided we find our pass rush again. Anyway, as usual, Kathryn and I had a blast at the game. We tailgate with some very nice folks who are friends and relatives of one of Kathryn's friends. They always make us feel welcome. They have a great set-up. They park in a person's back yard and we can use their bathroom. Two grills...a power set-up for watching TV before and after the game...and the food! Brats, burgers, chips, shrimp(!), nachos, cupcakes, deli trays...and Kathryn made a killer baked bean dish. Oh, I guess I should mention the beer, huh? And all of this was about a 3 to 4 minute walk to the Lambeau gate we go in. The only downside was having to be so careful on the drive home. There were deer everywhere. A couple crossed right in front of us and we probably saw about 25 to 30 dead ones on the side of the road counting the whole round trip from here in the Cities.

From his point of view, the penalty was correct, but the place they spotted the ball was bad.

From his point of view, the penalty was correct, but the place they spotted the ball was bad.
Hmmm, you may be right, Lynn. The problem was that the fans were so loud we couldn't hear the ref's explanation of the call, but if that is what was called...yeah, the spot was way off..at least 10 yards or so. It's too bad in a way that Brady and Romo are having such great years when Brett is too. His numbers, while good, pale by comparison to theirs (well, he does lead in total yards, but Brady's rating and TDs are so far ahead it's stupid). At least Brett's TD to INT percentage is much better than in recent years past (1/2 as many ints as TDs so far and 10 TDs vs 2 picks in the last 4 games). But, OTOH, all I care about is the wins, although it's nice to see the "old man" can still not just compete but do very well. As far as playing NE, well, all we can hope for is an injury (non-serious) to either Moss or Brady, I suppose. I worry less about Moss and more about Brady, TBH. And, if we play up to our offesive capability, we may be able to stay with NE offensively, provided Grant stays healthy. That 5 WR set we saw a number of times yesterday is scary! Driver, Jennings, Jones, Martin and Robinson...not a dud among them and all a legit threat to go to the house. Plus, now that Robinson seems to be "the" guy for kick returns, that was one of our missing pieces. With as many weapons as Favre has at his disposal, I think the NE defense will have its hands full. When we send 4 or 5 wide outs, that forces them to drop at least 5 or even 6 in coverage, so Favre should have plenty of time to find someone. Of course, we have to get to the SB first. And that means beating Dallas, maybe at their house in January. Pressuing Romo is one key to beating them and the other is going after their secondary. TO is TO (just as Randy is Randy) and we can't let him be the main focus of our D. TO has had bad games too (a few drops here and there). Yeah, he's playing greatright now, but we'll see. Another thing is to make sure Barber doesn't have a great game, but he's not that good a runner, so I'm not overly concerned with that.

John Childress -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 7:33:26 PM)

You need to worry about Moss. Last time you saw him he toasted you on one leg for two playoff scores.

#1 Bart Starr fan -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 7:59:50 PM)
You need to worry about Moss. Last time you saw him he toasted you on one leg for two playoff scores.
What I mean, JC, is that Moss will have a good game/great game IF Brady gets him the ball, period. So, the key is to get pressure on Brady more than it is to shut down Moss. If we double Moss, all that happens is Brady finds Welker and the rest of his crew. No, you have to go after Brady. I don't see any other way to beat this team but to find a way to rattle him and get him off his rhythm. Moss is his best weapon, but mostly long balls...so if you get a rush on Brady, you at least stand a chance he will not find Moss until they're near the end zone. Plus, let's face it, Harris or Woodson are going to get a minimum of 2 PI calls a piece if we play NE and Bigby probably 3. We may set a record. But OTOH if that's what it takes to win, and I think it might, well, then mug the SOB and continue trying to put Brady on his ass. Plus, the O will have score on every single possession. Look, I'm not saying the Packers can beat NE, but anything is possible. Hell, someone could accidentally, and I do mean accidentally, roll on Brady's ankle like it happened to Carson Palmer 2 years ago. No way does Cincy lose to Pittsburgh in that game if Palmer plays the whole game..not the way Cincy was playing that year. But on that first series, BAM, Palmer goes out. If that happens to NE, they are done. Which is why leaving Brady in there so late in these games could end up being the supidest thing Bellichik is doing. At Lambeau yesterday, the talk among fans was that if the Packers got one more score after 28-10, they should sit Brett for the remainder of the gane. Sadly, our D sucked and it ended up being a real game until about 2 minutes to go. Again, I don't want Brady injued, but you're throwing the dice leaving him in on these blow outs. Finally, if GB and NE do meet in the SB, I remember how the Pack were so heavily favored against the Broncos in 1998 and look how badly we played. It can happen. It shouldn't happen to NE, but it CAN happen. And if we do meet and get blown out, well, it happens. I just hope if we get there, Brett realizes that this young team will only get better and he sticks around a little while longer. Hell, if Vinny can play like he did at 44 yesterday, hell, do the math. :nodding:

Bill, Would you agree that the same story goes for the Packers - - - if Favre is out of the game, your chances slip down considerably?

Duane Sampson -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 8:27:58 PM)

I suggest the Packers get to the SB before you plan on beating the AFC team. :roll:
You need to worry about Moss. Last time you saw him he toasted you on one leg for two playoff scores.
The only thing they remember is Moss faux mooning them and rubbing his rump on the goalpost. Moss has torched them almost every time he played them. If they meet in the SB...he will torch them again, as Brady sets the SB record for TD passes in a game at 7. At least 4 will go to Moss.

#1 Bart Starr fan -> RE:The Packers (11/19/2007 8:36:07 PM)
Bill, Would you agree that the same story goes for the Packers - - - if Favre is out of the game, your chances slip down considerably?
Oh absolutely, Lynn. However, I do think, admittedly based on seeing him play limited during the pre-season, that as far as backups go, I'd give the nod to Rogers over the NE backup if both teams played with backups. But, god yes, if Brett goes down at any time from here on out, I'd say the Packers' chances of advancing past the first round, if even that, are slim to none.
