SO many rules in the NFL are ill-defined.  It's why the refs take such a beating (figuratively speaking) from fans, media and players.

Take, for example, the Spurlock "catch" that was actually ruled a catch...and upheld on replay.  It was far less a catch than Calvin Johnson's "non-catch" from the opening week. 

Tell me that rule is clear now.

That's not a catch period...let alone considering the Johnson screw job. WOW!

People can cry all season about the Johnson catch but teh refs made the right call.

They need to change the rule.

I agree about Johnson's catch.

But Spurlock's catch was less a catch than Johnson's and they ruled it a catch.  THAT's my point.  I'm not crying about CJ's non catch.

Reports saying #Packers TE Jermichael Finley will miss 3 weeks. That'd knock him out for #Vikings game Oct. 24. Big loss.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged Aaron Rodgers will miss practice time and possibly game w concussion.

So Clayroid Mathews has had 2 pulled muscles. One of the most common injuries from steroid use are muscle pulls

But I see that the article was from May. I would assume that he has been tested between then and now, or aren't all players tested at least once a year?

I know that players in "the system" are tested very frequently on a random timetable, but aren't ALL players tested at some point?

Lynn - I'm sure Mathews has been tested and passed with flying colors. But there have been plenty of guys who passed tests only to be caught at some point (e.,g Peppers, Merriman, Cushing, etc.). You never know when the masking agents are going to fail [;)]

Some good news on the injury front is that LB Chillar is going to practice this week and likely be back for next Sunday's game.  We need all the LBs we can get.
 
Finley likely won't be back until after the bye week.  There are 4 games between now and then so it would make sense to just have him wait until then and not rush him back.
 
Matthews hammy injury is not as serious as it was in preseason.  Sounds like a week of rest and he'll play Sunday.

Jim Haslett, defensive coordinator, Washington.

Over a 44-minute span Sunday against the once-mighty Packers, Haslett's aggressive defense held Green Bay to three points. Ten drives, three points. Forty-four plays, no touchdowns. Haslett had to go to the United Football League last year to be a head coach, and I'm not saying teams will be beating his door down next winter to be a head man in the NFL again. But he's having a terrific year putting good players in position to be great -- like strong safety LaRon Landry, who forced a fumble and had an interception Sunday.

I would think they would have to, otherwise how would they get into "the system"?

Their second-scariest player, imo.
As you say ... HUGE blow to them.
Looks like a MASH unit over there, thankfully they are not running on all cylinders yet either (and won't be for awhile)
We can get back in this division race. Chicago is the least-scariest 4-1 team in memory.

Let's not forget, the Packers scored A LOT of points last year after Finley went down. They scored almost 50 against Arizona.

The Pack are NOT a team to overlook. When Rodgers gets hot, he throws some VERY good passes.

Driver, Jennings, Jones and Nelson are ALL still very fine WRs, along with Jackson on screens.

But, YES, it is good to see the options going down.

I call bullshit on the NFL's concussion policy.
I had heard it was the same one that covers all sports in America.
Must not be, because if you are pulled from a game and the cause is determined to be a concussion (at least in the youth sport I coach) ... you are NOT allowed to participate in the next scheduled game.
I thought you couldn't be cleared by baseline testing in a week. Guess I'm wrong.
And I'm not just calling the Packers on it ... seeing Philly's LBer go down, wobble off, get reported as HAVING a concussion, then re-enter the same game ... was ridiculous.
Have the standards changed, or haven't they?

The Finley injury is a big blow, that just means the younger guys have to step up.  I am optimistic about Quarless though.  He's like a Finley clone but still has a ways to go given he's just a rookie. 
 
I had hoped that Rodgers concussion was a low grade one and it appears that was the case.
 
Just hoping that we can make it though Sunday with no more injuries.

The problem for the Packers is that this was going to be a special season for them and now it looks like a struggle to make the playoffs.

They have got to develop a running game. Passing on Lynch is inexcusable for a team with SB dreams
