I remember thinking the Bears weren't that good a couple times before and they won the division. Once, they went to the Super Bowl

They have been the flukiest team in Football the past number of years. They really should trade helmets with the Colts.

marty -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 5:40:14 PM)

The Bears have the best HC in the division.

The Bears are going under the radar, and are going to be awfully hard to catch down the stretch.

The Bears are horribly coached and have not played a good game yet this year.

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 5:45:05 PM)

I wouldn't go that far

Beating Dallas in Dallas is a good game

David Levine -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 5:51:52 PM)

You're right that was Cutler's best game as a Bear.

But I still wouldn't expect many more of them.

David Levine -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 5:52:41 PM)

I also think they're a team that is going to finish poorly as they aren't built at all for cold weather, outdoor games.

marty -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:09:34 PM)

Some positives for the Packers:

1) the play where the fans wanted PI on Nick Collins was NOT PI, and was quite a play by Collins. Collins did not make contact before the ball, but rather made a GREAT play on the ball, getting his (Collin's) hands in just the right place to cause the deflection.

2) CB Tramon Williams made an even GREATER play on a 3rd down (it did NOT draw a flag, and shouldn't have), where he went over the top of the WR, got his hands down to knock the ball away, did NOT make contact with the WR, and timed it PERFECTLY as the ball got there.

So the Packers don't commit PI or holds ONE HUNDERED % of the time on every pass play, it's probably more like 85% of the time. [:D]

3) Mason Crosby made quite a kick that COULD have won the game for the Packers with a few seconds left on the clock in regulation. It was a 53 yard attempt, and it hit the crossbar high, and went left, it had LOTS of distance.

------------------------------------

Rodgers made a bad move on the Packs last drive in regulation. He could have gotten out of bounds, but stayed in and forced the Pack to use their last timeout with about 30 seconds left.

I didn't see the helmet to helmet on Rodgers' INT in OT at the time, but rewatching it, it was DEFINITELY a helmet to helmet shot, and one that should have been called.

I don't know, Forte is pretty good. They can run the ball if they want to

I think he's good, but he's more of a pass catcher. He's been bad running the ball so far this year outside of today.

Game 1: 17 carries, 50 yards, 2.9 AVG, 0 TDs. 2 Fumbles.
Game 2: 10 carries, 29 yards, 2.9 AVG, 0 TDs.
Game 1: 11 carries, 29 yards, 2.6 AVG, 0 TDs.
Game 1: 12 carries, 26 yards, 2.2 AVG, 0 TDs.
Game 1: 22 carries, 166 yards, 7.5 AVG, 2 TDs.

But their line also stinks, and I don't like Martz's schemes in bad weather.

marty -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:23:47 PM)

I agree that the Bears probably haven't played a good (great) game all year, but I couldn't disagree more on the horribly coached part.

The Bears don't usually commit a lot of penalties, and Lovie has them ready to play every game. They are an OVERachieving team with a weak defensive 2ndary, and weak OL, and might not be all that great at WR. I didn't expect a fast start for them as the offense was adapting to a new, complicated system. They've exceeded my expectations so far.

David, your comment about the Bears not being built for cold weather IS a good point. However, it's possible Tice gets the OL to being serviceable, and then they'll be tough to beat. The Bears defense is built for cold weather, a good front 7, and a 2ndary that might appreciate bad weather to hide it's weaknesses. I don't think the 2ndary is very good, but it's looks better because the front 7 are good.

Maybe the Bears have an OFFENSE that isn't built for cold weather, not a TEAM that isn't built for cold weather ?

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:24:41 PM)

The Dallas-Titans game is unbelievable

No defense

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:25:39 PM)

Terrible play call on 1st down from Goal at the 5 for the Tits

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:27:13 PM)

The Cowboys got flagged for 15 yards for excessive celebration on their TD. So they had to kick off from the 15. So the Titans return the kick to the 5 and CJ takes it in from there

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:27:40 PM)

Romo will be over 400yards passing. The only question is whether or not he gets the tying TD

David Levine -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:29:08 PM)

Lovie has a lot of the same flaws as Childress and McCarthy. Not a good in game coach, makes very questionable decisions.

Bears have probably won more games on crazy deflections and flukes after being outplayed for 4 quarters than anyone else the past 5 years.

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:47:11 PM)

Hey Hey Hey!

Get this non-Packer talk out of here.

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 6:58:13 PM)

Too funny Craig

David - at some point I have to give credit to coaching. Clearly he has team going for the ball.

Lovie has taken a team with less talent further than any other coach in the division.

Lovie reminds me of Charlie Manuel, Phillies manager. With both of them they seem like bumbling bafoons but they seem to win a lot.

Lynn G. -> RE: The Packers (10/10/2010 7:02:18 PM)

Yeah - everyone else is talking about the other games in the other games thread.

Craig - any update on Rodger's concussion?

Packers 13 - Redskins 16

Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap and crap.

Offense
  • Where was the running game? It produced (even taking away the 71 yd run by Jackson) and MM simply abandoned it.
  • No pass protection in the 2nd half.
  • Rodgers was poor overall. He was too busy looking around at the protection. This was when he even had time.
  • Just a poor, poor offensive gameplan. MM abandoning the run for no good reason and just throws, throws and throws. Even on 3rd and short he throws it, consistently.
  • Didn't like the call to go for it on 4th and goal. To me, take the points.

    Defense
  • Great pass rush.
  • Great run defense.
  • Absolutely poor pass coverage and just stupid penalties. Guys were open all 4th Q and OT long.

    Special Teams
  • Other than Williams punt return, they were their usual crud.

I said it before that our injuries were concerning and now they get even worse. Finley, Lee, Pickett, Matthews, Shields. This is getting ridiculous. Hopefully Finley's isn't too serious and that he can still come back soon. It's Hawk and 3 backup LBs. We got a dime back at nickel and a special teams' guys at dime and starting S. Our defense is just shredded. I'm frankly surprised that they stopped Washington from scoring more than they did.

This season has a good chance of going downhill very quickly.

  • Solid post. I agree with all of it.

Packers flagged for 2 PI calls in OT. The first one seemed ticky tack, it was a hold away from the WR being thrown to. The 2nd one was on Woodson, and the only thing surprising was Woodson arguing about it, he caught the guy from behind and pulled him, BEFORE the ball was there.

So, just like last year, you have the most penalized team in the league getting a large amount of penalties, but also getting away with an incredible number of non-calls, 3 on crucial 3rd downs.

If I were a Packer fan, I would send McCarthy a league rule book.

Seems the refs are more in need of a rule book.

Nothing that I've heard yet. Likely something we may not know anything about until later in the week for sure. I hope for it to be something mild, but we'll see.
