Probably more corrupt. Because their labor gets pennies for the dollars they get.

McMurfy -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (4/30/2015 11:18:20 PM)

9 First Rounders from the Pac-12, most of any conference

College football is not professional football league. Nobody is forcing these guys to play college football. If the players want money have them join a league that pays the players. If they want an education and a chance to hone their game before turning professional go to college. Not complicated at all.

Starting in 2016, NDSU will pay all its student athletes $3400 on top of their scholarships.

I didn't even think this was legal.

No one may be "forcing" these guys to play, but not a single one of them can make it to a pro team without playing college ball first, and a lot of them wouldn't be able to afford college in the first place if they weren't playing ball. It's not an equitable dynamic by any means. They are flat out being exploited, whether you care to admit it or not.

You can only play NFL football if you completed some college requirements?

You have to go to college to enter the draft, so your only shot would be as a free agent. Good luck getting noticed without having college tape.

El Duderino -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (8/28/2015 4:49:41 PM)

If you want to nit-pick my use of the phrase "not a one of them", that's fine. But the number of players who have been able to get into the league without playing college ball is vanishingly small, and mostly comprises soccer players turned kickers.

David Levine -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (8/28/2015 4:56:24 PM)

Michael Lewis of the Saints from a few years back is the only "modern" non-kicker I can think of that didn't go to college.

He also didn't make the NFL until he was 30.

Is he under contract?
Does his paycheck have the commissioner's facsimile signature on it?
Did he not take live snaps in an actual NFL game on an actual NFL Venue field?

You can say " these games don't count because they are meaningless", all you want.

Getting blown out 41-0 in the "postseason" makes that game pretty meaningless to anyone on the doughnut side of the score as well.

They are both NFL Sanctioned Contests.

The reality is that his presence in the NFL, refutes your point.

End of story.

And college training that advances you to the skill level of fledgling NFL player.

BS just like you said they are exploiting college football to get to the pros. They could also get a college degree out of it. There are leagues that pay players to play below the NFL level. They have that option.

So college gives the players an opportunity to make it to the NFL. Once again the players are exploiting the colleges.
