Don't think for 1 second that electing a half-Black President eerases the pain of 400 years of racism

DeLain -> RE: Around The NFL (News) - 2012 (1/30/2013 6:48:06 PM)

Wow that was a leap. Wasn't thinking it did. If the next 20 presidents were black I don't think that would erase it either. The past is ugly. I doubt the election of a Native American as president would erase the pain of all their lands being taken away and them almost being driven to extinction.

Although my personal ancestors were considered slaves (serfs) until the mid 1800s, I personally haven't had to deal with racism that many others still do today.

I am just fortunate and thankful to live in an area and neighborhood that is VERY ethnic and multicultural and racism doesn't seem to exist.

History is history but these are the numbers that really irk me...

The Catholic church is responsible for 20-60 million deaths over the last 1700 years.
Joseph Stalin starved 20 million Ukrainians to death.
Communist China murded between 35 million and 50 million during the so-called "Cultural Revolution".

The New York Post has an exclusive report detailing Dan Marino's supposed affair with a CBS employee.

The married gridiron great — a pregame analyst for CBS since 2003 who will be doing this Sunday’s Super Bowl broadcast — sired a love child with a network underling and then paid her millions to keep quiet, sources have exclusively told The Post.

At the time, Donna Savattere was a 35-year-old production assistant at the CBS Sports studio in Manhattan. She and Marino began an affair and, in 2005, Savattere gave birth to Marino's daughter, Chloe. Marino came clean about the affair on Wednesday.

Marino yesterday admitted to his dalliance.

“This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then,” he told The Post in a written statement. “We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved.” [NY Post]

These guys have so bought into media created story on Moss, it shows the trouble they have trouble accepting anything to the contrary:

http://www.cbssports.com/video/player/play/nfl/1_gn39Fc9AEe

Moss was open deep twice against the Packers in the GB/SF playoff game, if those passes were both thrown accurately for TDs, the storyline after the game might have been less about the running of Kap, and more about the reemergence of Moss in the playoffs.

The San Francisco 49ers will attempt to trade quarterback Alex Smith this offseason, according to league sources, and some believe they will be able to do it because there is not a great supply of available quarterbacks and there is a demand for Smith.

Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner worked well with Smith in San Francisco when he was the team's offensive coordinator in 2006 and Chiefs coach Andy Reid has expressed interest in Smith in the past, making Cleveland and Kansas City two possible destinations.
There's one other factor to consider in the 49ers' preference to trade Smith. If San Francisco deals him instead of cutting him it would save the $1 million or $2 million roster bonus it would have to pay if he is released.
Smith, the 2005 No. 1 overall draft pick, lost his starting job to Colin Kaepernick while sitting out with a concussion but has been professional at every turn and has continued to mentor his replacement.
In fact, coach Jim Harbaugh has indicated that Smith spends more time than he does coaching Kaepernick.
Before his injury, Smith had completed 26 of his previous 28 passes -- 18 of 19 for 232 yards and three touchdowns without an interception and a 157.1 passer rating in a Monday Night Football win at Arizona on Oct. 29.
He then sustained a concussion in the second quarter of the 49ers' next game, a 24-24 tie against St. Louis on Nov. 11. He sat out the next game as Kaepernick dazzled in his debut as an NFL starter, beating the Bears handily at home on Monday Night Football and didn't start again this season.

Too funny
Pouty Boy is a douche off the field, too ....  [:D]

Anyone who has followed Jay Cutler's career knows he isn't one for theatrics. The nonchalant quarterback is about as cool as they come.
So it is fitting, if not necessarily surprising, to hear about how he and his fiancee, former reality star Kristin Cavallari, finally decided to tie the knot.
After the couple got engaged in April 2011, Cutler called it off that summer. But a few months later, the marriage was back on. In an interview that will air as part of an E! special on March 10, Cavallari explained how it all went down.
She was leaving the airport in Chicago in the fall of 2011 when the idea of a second engagement was broached.
"Somehow it came up, like, 'Oh, shall we get married?'" Cavallari said. "We're like, 'Yeah, OK.'"
The couple already had wedding jewelry from their first engagement, so they saved that expense. But with Cutler in Chicago and Cavallari in California, how could he get her the ring? Through the mail, of course.
"...[H]e sent my ring in the mail," Cavallari said. "So I actually had my ring sitting at home for a couple of weeks before I put it on."
Cavallari says the couple does not yet have a date for their wedding.

Cam Newton (6'5", 245 pounds, two seasons) is one of the few quarterbacks in the NFL who is more accurate throwing deep than underneath. That can be chalked up to throwing too hard underneath but also to mechanics that prevent the ball from hitting the target with room to catch and run.

Newton has the potential to be the best quarterback in the NFL, but he has to continue to develop as a passer. That means cleaning up his mechanics and working on his pre- and post-snap reads of the secondary. The potential is here.

Rule Change Proposals
quote:

Under a new proposal from the Competition Committee, the review would still occur.

Also, the automatic 15-yard penalty would be wiped out. A foul would be called only if the coach’s team has no remaining timeouts, or if the coach has no remaining challenges.

So, basically, a coach who throws the red challenge flag at a time when the review is otherwise automatic will be viewed as having thrown the red challenge flag under normal circumstances.

quote:

Under the new rule (if it is passed), a quarterback who has pumped the ball and who loses possession while bringing the ball back into his torso will be deemed to have fumbled. Under the current rule (and as Raiders fans know too well) it is an incomplete pass.
