One of the talking heads mentioned it ... Lewis's punk mouth comes from the fact that the Rangers SUCK right now.
They obviously haven't settled into the SUCK ..... like our little team, has ......

Was he flirting with a no hitter or something? I missed this.

That reminds me of Curt Schilling getting all bent out of shape when Ben Davis bunted when he was trying for a perfect game. Spoke about some "unwritten rule" about not bunting whle a perfect game is in order. I call bullshit. It's your job to get outs, the batters job to get on base by any means necessary.

If that's what happened here...Lewis shoud stfu

He was down 2-0 in the fifth inning, 2 outs, and the huge shift on for a Lefty batter, so the bunt came.

Then Lewis bitched that if he was serious, the hitter would have tried to steal on one if the first 2 pitches when he got on.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/21/2014 2:20:12 PM)

I think the defense shouldn't have shifted on Rasmus. That's unfair and there should be an "unwritten rule" against that.

Shifts are chickensh*t. [:D]

From Closer to DFA in less than 2 years

The Blue Jays announced that they have designated right-hander Sergio Santos for assignment and recalled southpaw Rob Rasmussen from Triple-A Buffalo.

The O's continue to roll.
Nice looking team, very solid. Good manager, decent lineup, just solid.
JJs right there in the middle of it as usual.
Cant believe he doesn't hold them back, like he did here. Slow bastard.

I liked the Adam Jones mess up Sunday.
THey go to the dugout. Buck very stoic. You know Jones will hear about it based on his reaction.

But then Buck lets it go.

Machado is a knucklehead. But they don't keep beating him over the head with past errors/transgressions.

Buck moves 'em forward to get the most out of them.

And they do.Their staff is not all that. But SOMEHOW, COACHING helps get it done.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/22/2014 8:40:14 AM)

Perfectly said.
You can tell Buck rails em, just never publicly.
Some guys win anywhere and everywhere.

Some guys land a cushy job and bristle when the rare questioning of their moves happens by their local media. Same guys love to run over young guys in the media to "toughen" them up.

Saw a post to an article where the poster said that letting JJ Hardy go for a bag of beans was a money issue and Gardy had nothing to do about it.

Twins Territory.....home of revisionist history.

Gardy always liked Bartlett.....

Too bad he didn't like Bartlett when the kid was young and had potential.

Instead he likes him when he is older and unable to play anymore.

Gardy.......a manager who is 180 degrees out of phase.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/22/2014 9:14:48 AM)

Miles and Ed bringing the heat today as usual.
Very Motorcycle-like in their efficiency. But we're not trading em.
Yes, maybe we cannot afford them, but we will find a way to keep them. [;)]

Same thing now w/GoGo. As Ewen went back and found, Gardy wanted GoGo to slap and run.

Now? Eh, he doesn't care what he said then. It's what he says now.

Same thing w/Pino. Didn't even know how many walks were were not intentional. You'd think it would be important to know
facts before you open the pie hole.

Not here. Not necessary when the sheep nod along.

The Yankees have acquired Chase Headley from the Yankees, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (Twitter links). The Yankees will send Yangervis Solarte and minor league right-hander Rafael De Paula to the Padres in return for Headley and $1MM.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/22/2014 12:34:50 PM)

Theres something you rarely see ... a relevant team trying to fill needs.
Weird, weird, concept.
Foreign, really.

Stacey King -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/22/2014 12:40:00 PM)

Good add by the Yanks. Low risk , high reward.

Interesting Headley tidbit from a few weeks ago...

Chase Headley got a grip. Actually, he just got it back.

To be sure, there’s been a noticeable and long-awaited upsurge in Headley’s batting average since the start of this month, a rise from sub-.200 to .229 in a very short time. A week-long run of .462, including two four-hit games, will do that for your numbers and your confidence.

Less discernible, however, is what Headley identifies as a major reason for the vast improvement in July. It’s all in the hands.

Specifically, Headley has returned to his natural grip, which he admits is “unorthodox.” Instead of holding the bat fully with both hands, the switch-hitting Headley drapes and intertwines the pinky and sometimes even the fourth finger of his top hand with the first and second fingers of his lower hand.

“It’s just an overlap,” said Headley. “Not a golf grip, but similar. It’s not drastic for me, because it’s something I’ve done my entire career.”

Indeed, Headley was last using the crossover grip on a regular basis in the epic second-half he produced in 2012, the year he finished as the National League leader with 115 runs batted in and hit 31 homers. He broke a bone in his right hand in spring training of the following season, however, and that made his intertwined grip less workable.

“I struggled when I came back, so I went to a more conventional grip,” he said. “I decided to try to stay with it. I gave it a fair number of at bats this year and didn’t feel like I was able to control the barrel like I have in the past.

“I’d take what I thought was a good swing, but then I’d get on top and it rolled over. I thought I was taking the right approach to the ball, so I thought it was time to make an adjustment. So far, so good.”

With rumors spreading across the nation about Headley as trade bait – he’s in the final year of his contract with the Padres – Headley hadn’t endured a hitless game since the end of June before Tuesday night.

The presumption was that an epidural he received to battle a herniated disc had worked wonders on a body that’s been plagued with myriad injuries the past two seasons, and it certainly didn’t hurt either his timing or mechanics.

The change back to more-comfortable handle on the handle, however, seems to have made the most difference.

“It lets me feel a little bit shorter to the ball, gives you a little more leverage,” said Headley. “It’s not extremely common. Maybe only a few other guys who use it. It’s definitely unorthodox, but it’s something I’ve kinda done my whole life.

“I just trained my eyes to know where my barrel is the way that I swing. It’s hard to untrain. I think that’s a big part of what’s going on.”

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/22/2014 2:29:39 PM)

You have got to be kidding me.

They're actually considering making the shift illegal?

I recently asked a veteran major league hitting coach what can be done to inject more offense back in the game. His first response was to address the new defensive positioning.

“The shifts,” he said. “Get rid of them. You need to come up with a definition of illegal defense. I know you’ll say, ‘Well, you’re a hitting coach. Of course you would [say that].’ But it’s something that has really changed the game.”

Support of an “illegal defense” rule – or at least the consideration of it – is gaining some traction in baseball. Such a rule might stipulate, for instance, that you cannot have three infielders on one side of second base. A shortstop would be able to shift as far as directly behind second base on a lefthanded hitter, but no farther.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/22/2014 2:34:21 PM)

The Cubs have designated second baseman Darwin Barney for assignment, tweets Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. Barney, 28, had been the club’s regular at the keystone dating back to 2011.

Illegal defense in baseball.
I haven't heard it all ... but I gotta be getting close.

Over reaction to a minor problem.....period.

Leave it alone.

Here is an idea hitters......how about choking up on the bat and putting the ball in play when you have 2 strikes......instead of swinging from the heels.

So many times, I see the shift on a batter and then the idiot pitcher ends up pitching the batter away.

Get rid of the armor for the batter then.

Open up the strike zone again instead of making it a stinkin' bread basket.

Nearly all the guys with issues are lefty hitters.

Figger it out. Be a hitter then.
