Thought I begged you awhile back to try that one out.
Loved it too.

Kurt Russell is maybe the coolest dude on the planet at times. Comes from a family of characters.

Yes, I believe you did. That's why I had it added to my list. Thanks!

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 9:08:52 AM)

Im with ya ... I don't get how that slipped so completely under my radar while it was happening.
You were too young, I feel like I should have known about that while it was going on ... but didn't.
Its a very very cool story.

I either want the DH for both leagues, or eliminate it altogether. It really wouldn't bother me to see it illiminated.

MLBPA will never let that happen.

But I agree. Make it all of baseball or none of baseball having the DH. Pick one and live with the consequences. It's outrageous that each league has different rules.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 11:40:01 AM)

I'm all for the DH in both leagues. Makes no sense to me in this era of specialized roles (closers, setup men, etc.) to continue to have pitchers flail away at the plate. We're watching (and paying) these guys to be as entertaining as possible. So let's have the best of the best do the most with their roles. This is almost how I feel about performance enhancers at this point.

That's awesome on the movie. I just heard about that a week or two ago; sounds incredible.

The White Sox agreed to terms with former Yankees closer David Robertson and traded for A's starter Jeff Samardzija according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today and Jon Heyman of CBSSports, respectively. Robertson's deal is reported to be for four years and in excess of $40 million. Samardzija was traded to Oakland in July and finished with a record of 5-6, a 3.14 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 16 starts. Neither deal has been confirmed by the White Sox.

I should have trusted my source on Samardzija to the White Sox last week. I did until Dustin doubted me.

Another underwhelming return for Oakland. Just seems like they haven't gotten a ton for Donaldson/Moss/Smardz. Seem all cost-cutting moves, but they signed Butler and I'm sure they'll sign another arm or two. I wonder if Beane "went over" budget last year knowing that he had 2 stud arms returning from injury this year and so he has to reign the spending back in.

I like Robertson, but don't see that signing ending well for the White Sox. A lot of use on that arm.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 12:04:32 PM)

If Lester signs with SF, man, look out for that staff. Bumgarner/Lester/Cain (back)/Hudson/Petit. Hell of an arms race there, especially in the West.

But on the flip side, they better figure something out on offense. They figure to struggle to score runs with that offense, sans Posey.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 12:05:49 PM)

I'm usually a Beane-lover, but his off-season has been horrendous. (at this point)
I'll gladly give him props if or when he proves me wrong again ... but its a horrific train wreck from the outside looking at it right now.

[&:][&:] Just saying that as always they're a team built to win in the postseason but will struggle to get to the postseason just because of offense.

Ya, tough to figure out. Their pitching still looks strong though. It's a testament to just how great of a season they/he had last year that they were missing 2 of their best pitchers all year, Griffin and Parker. Those guys are back in 2015. They really gotta figure out offense too though, like their Giants' counterparts. Donaldson was a huge blow.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 12:17:33 PM)

Hmmm. A's fan buddies are loving this deal. Not sure what to think anymore. [&:][&:]

I hear ya
It just sounds so funny
The experts on MLB the other night were doing the same thing ... wringing their hands .... oh my, what will the Giants do .... when it finally hit them .... PROBABLY WIN ANOTHER ONE [&:]

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 12:22:40 PM)

[:D] Yep.

Jealous. My best buddy is a huge Giants' fan and he can never even figure out how they keep winning.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 12:25:04 PM)

They've always been #3 for me
Twins #1
Yanks #2
Giants #3

I'm pretty much covered every post-season, that way [:D]

Interesting. I've always liked the Giants, but mine would probably go something like:

1. Twins
2. A's
3. Rays
...
27. Satan
28. Yankees
29. Biebers
30. White Sux

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 12:56:22 PM)

Twins
Cardinals
Royals

Didn't realize they played baseball on either coast?

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 12:57:22 PM)

Rays are probably 3a for me
Orioles are currently 1a (as long as JJ plays)

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 12:57:47 PM)

If Dozier ever goes to Baltimore, I'd have to move to Maryland.

I respect the Cardinals about as much as anyone.
So theres that ... if none of my faves are in, Im usually all-in with the Cards

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2014 1:17:39 PM)

Cards and Braves are similar for me. Respect the hell out of both, and don't mind either one. Just a little sick of both, since I live in their territory. TN is probably 60% Braves fans, 30% Cards fans, then the rest divided among Reds/whatever else. I do like that I can get to any of the 3 for a day game in quite an easy trip.

You wouldn't be able to walk for a week with a Hardy / Dozier infield. [:D]

4 hours and see a doctor........

That would be 7 days in your case......maybe all season long.[&:]
