Craig Counsell, apparently

Counsell is currently a special assistant to Brewers GM Doug Melvin. He was a finalist for the Rays managerial job this past offseason, but he withdrew his name from consideration in order to stay on with Milwaukee. He has worked with the Brewers front office since retiring as a player and has no managerial experience, although he’s regarded well enough in the industry to have been considered not only for the Rays job, but for the Red Sox’ hitting coach position, for which he interviewed in 2012.

The 44-year-old Counsell spent part of 16 seasons in the Majors as a player, including with the Brewers in 2004 and from 2007 through the end of his career in 2011. He hit .255/.342/.344 while playing mostly second, third and shortstop. Counsell also played key roles in World Series wins for the 1997 Marlins and 2001 Diamondbacks, winning the NLCS MVP award in 2001.

Counsell will inherit a Brewers team that got off to a poor 7-18 start. Melvin has suggested the Brewers could begin trading veteran players in an effort to rebuild, a process Counsell evidently would then oversee.

If they're rebuilding then Gardy must not be the right choice. [;)]

Stacey King -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/4/2015 9:40:04 AM)

Brewers have Garza, Lohse and GoGo.

Gardy ran them all off when here for various reasons.

Fixed it for you.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/4/2015 2:13:35 PM)

So Houston is 18-7

That's a fairly speedy re-build

Will it last?

I hope so. Then dicknbert have one less team to make fun of

After the weekend, they'll probably use the Brewers and CHISOX as punching bags for a while.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/4/2015 2:17:01 PM)

I see there were some shots of white sox fans at the game yesterday, all bagged-up.
We understand around here. [:D]

Just a few short weeks ago.

I really agree that a calm, steady and EDUCATED (especially in the nuances of baseball as a HOF player) manager has helped.

Find it interesting that mollys now admitting he's never seen worse baseball than our first week.
He certainly didn't act that way at the time.
That's the kind of leadership teams need. Calmly stayed at work on everything.

Brewers quickly went YOUNGER with a player w/credentials, not the last 4 years of throwing younger guys under the bus, and
doing very little to improve any player that played for him. In addition to being a crusty guy who argued the dumbest things and
was belittling to the media.

Yeah, I'm sure it would be tough to pick between Counsell and Gardy.

Teams seem to be looking to fresh ideas, not recycling.

Stacey King -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/5/2015 2:57:42 PM)

Matt Holliday quietly keeps on keeping on. Not the best with the glove but that's why in left field.

now the 8th LF in NL history with 3000 career total bases

Barry Bonds, Luis Gonzalez, Zack Wheat, Lou Brock, Joe Medwick, Billy Williams, George Foster

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/9/2015 1:47:31 AM)

Looks like Timmy Tim Tim Lincecums career has been resurrected ... again!
That little dude amazes me.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/9/2015 8:34:31 PM)

Jeezus, if Torii and Bryce Harper sat next to each other, would a fire spontaneously start?
Torrid couple days for these two.
Harpers been NUTS

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/9/2015 10:26:00 PM)

White Sox rookie Rodon (who we got to see last week) ... with his first start, and a dandy. Beat the Reds tonight
He looks to be pretty good.
Couple tough lefties in that rotation possibly.

yeah i saw this earlier,

Carlos Rodon's pitch count has passed 100 and he's still pumping 98 mph and

Carlos Rodon's fastball topped out at 99 mph and averaged 95 tonight

he has a very impressive hard slider too. Hope the kid stays healthy.

Stacey King -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/9/2015 11:07:30 PM)

Carlos Rodon threw 70 fastballs (45 for strikes), 36 sliders (21) and two changeups (one)

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/9/2015 11:29:58 PM)

That's why i say don't laugh at the Sox. They have the making of one very tough starting staff.

THey're already talking that he's only spot-starting and will be on an innings count this year.

How can other teams draft guys that are so ready and teh Twins? Rarely.

4-5-4 triple play last night

Yay, national day of celebration.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/10/2015 6:46:11 AM)

Colorados been weathered out of four of its last six games .... we've been very fortunate with that this year.

That'll catch up to them I'd imagine, with an extra work load.

You're right about Hunter/Harper

One is hot, the other is en-fuego.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/10/2015 9:28:23 PM)

JJ finally back in for the O's
Pineda struck out 16 for the Yanks today as they beat Baltimore 6-2.
But JJ homered. (and was the only guy NOT to strike out) [;)]

Well I guess that confirms the eye-test does have some merit because most of us were saying we had never seen worse baseball played at any level before in our lives during the first week of the season.
