Molitor also recognizes the team has some young talent and that playing in games like the one last night is necessary for their long term development.

Molly isn't a fool.......he knows that even if they get the wild card, they really don't have the pitching to do anything in the playoffs.

But playing meaningful games in Sept will go a long way for these youngsters in 2016 and 2017.

And panicking when a guy fails once in awhile won't help anything.
Its all gravy at this point.

meaningful September games ... going to help our youngsters out a ton down the road.

Which is why they should have as many of them traveling and experiencing this, even if they don't or rarely play.

MEYER is one example

KEPLER after he's done is another.

Black 47 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/10/2015 3:40:39 PM)

Don't get the Meyer thing. Ridiculous. Obviously a Ryan decision. I'm sure Molitor and Allen would like to see Meyer here.

NL is crazy

3 teams in the Central with 80 or more wins. PITT now within 4 1/2 of the Cardinals, who have 88 wins.

Cubs at 80 wins NINE game Wild Card lead for the last spot.

Whether or not one agrees with the 2 WC team format, a year like this demonstrates just how good the NL central is.....

Unfortunately, only 1 central WC team will advance..........all 3 are probably better than either the east or west division winner. The other problem is even when the WC team advances, they probably used their ace to pitch that one game......and the ace isn't available for the division championship series' first game.

So Gardy will go to the Motor City?????????

Why do I suddenly have a lot of empathy for Tiger fans?

A national reporter/Bob Nightengale, says Ron Gardenhire, who has been out of baseball for the past year after being let go by the #Twins, is the heavy favorite to replace Ausmus.

Just read an awesome article by CJ Nitkowski hi-lighting this problem. One of those three teams won't make it past the one game playoff, and that's a joke. This format is awful. The best teams don't make the playoffs. He talked about the 2012 Tigers had the 7th best record in the AL, but won a bad division. He proposes eliminating divisions. I fully 100% agree.

Eliminate divisions. Top four teams from each league make playoffs. Balance the schedule so every team plays the same schedule. Eliminating interleage would add more intrigue to the World series and reignite the AL/NL rivalry. Who could be against this? Shouldn't we all want the best teams making the playoffs? The Twins embarassed themselves year after year in the playoffs, while other teams sitting at home would have been far more competitive than our low talent scrappy bunch.

MLB would be against it.

Divisions add races and interest and excitement. If you eliminate them, races don't carry as much weight anymore.

I LOVE a one game playoff for wild cards. If you don't want to have your season hinge on one game. Win your division.

MDK -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/11/2015 3:47:47 PM)

The three teams with the best record in the NL are all from the Central. Only one can win the division.
The two WC teams in the NL will be from the Central. The team with the best record in the NL will be in the Central. One central team will advance to the NLDS. They will face the team with the best record.........right now it is the Cards, unless Pittsburgh overtakes them.

As such, only one team from the Central can advance to the NLCS.

Whether or not one likes this format, whether or not it is truly fair, whether or not we should do away with interleague play and divisional winners, the present format raises interest among more fans since more teams have a playoff shot. More fans means more money.......

I doubt that MLB will change anything unless the change is accompanied with strong evidence that the change would increase revenues.

Because it is a business.

To the late Eloise Pohlad, the Twins were more than a busines. Since she died in 2003, and that contraction was attempted after 2001, I think we can conclude that to Carl, they were simply a business. To the sons, they are a business. Sad that they (the boys) can't look at the Twins and see what Eloise saw in the team.....

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 12:02:41 AM)

Tex done for the year in NY.
Had been having a real nice season.
Baltimore pounds the Royals.
Texas closes out the A's 4-0. No ground gained tonight.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 12:14:49 AM)

Houstons lead over Texas is down to just a game and a half ... might be chasing Houston instead, soon ....

ewen21 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 12:47:19 AM)

I would LOVE to see Toronto take the AL east.
Russell Martin with two jacks. Donaldson hit #38
Price just needed to go 5, LaTroy got in some work.....

Houston feeling some heat. Their offense has holes. Esp on the road.

Tex has been out for a long time.NOW they figure out he has a fracture. What, did the Twins staff treat this guy??

O's 2 GS in an inning. KC has been a bit bumpy of late.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 6:50:21 AM)

Texs injury had to be from that foul off his leg against us many moons ago, no?
Like you said, not a great job of doctorin there. [:D]

It was. How could you not ex-ray/MRI it, given how quickly they normally check that stuff.

TX and MN are 2 of the same. Wondering how they got where they are right now. "On paper" shouldn't be in this spot.

I think the one game playoff is a fraud. An entire 162 game season should not come down to one game.

I just think it's wrong the best teams don't make the playoffs. Like I said, the 2012 Tigers had the 7th best record in the AL, in addition to playing in a weaker division + unbalanced schedule = weaker schedule than teams in other divisions had. Same scenario with most of Gardy's division winners. TAINTED. It's a shame that money rules.

I remember A-Rod made a controversial comment one of those years saying his Texas team that wasn't making the playoffs was better than the Twins. We all bristled, but he was right.

The NFL doesn't get it either. That a 7-9 division winner can host a playoff game against a 12-4 team is nothing short of criminal. Although I was pretty tickled to see my most hated team, the Saints, get beat that year.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 8:38:26 PM)

Jays continue to make a statement in NY this weekend.
Taking both ends of a DH today. Convincingly.
Will lose Tulo for awhile however, cracked shoulder blade.

500 HR for Papi.

Too bad the Twins effed all that up.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 9:30:46 PM)

I never in a million years thought I'd come around on Favre, but I did.
I never in a million years thought I'd come around on Larry Bird, but I did.
Ditto on dozens of others.
But I haven't come around on Papi and I don't plan to. [:D]

if he'd won the series for the twins and roided, Might forgive him.

Else??

nah.

But the Twins DID screw that one up.

One of many.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 9:34:47 PM)

I'd like to scream at the Twins for that one, but I have to admit I had given up on him (here) ... as well.
Not sure any change here would have resulted in his ahem, uhmmm, ahhh, "career turnaround" in Bahhhhston.
